Clever Name But Good Lube

A good silicone-based lube is essential for every bedroom. Uranus fills that need nicely with an inexpensive, long-lasting smooth lubrication for not just anal sex, but handjobs and vaginal sex too. Don't expect a super-lube, this one is pretty typical as far as silicone lubes go. As usual, do not combine this lube with silicone toys as it will degrade the toy. Finally, the smooth bottle will become hard to handle if you let the lube coat the bottle.

I'll admit, the first thing you notice about Wet's new silicone-based lube is the name, Uranus. It's clever and I could have started with an equally clever pun about it being "out of this world." As far as marketing goes, it's a great idea to sell lube. However, it's not an appreciably better silicone-based lube than their Platinum silicone-based lube. Don't get me wrong, I loved Wet Platinum lube and used it for quite some time. However, for a lube that is intended for anal use, I expected it to be a little thicker than many other silicone lubes. As a silicone lube, it is long-lasting and very silky. A small amount the size of a quarter in the palm of your hand should last you through 15-30 minutes of vaginal sex or a handjob. Since it is not as thick as Maximus, you may need a little more for your anal sex or have to use two applications - depending on how long you need it to last. It does not get sticky like many water-based lubes with artificial sweeteners added and it will leave your skin feeling smooth as it soaks in or is rubbed away.

The bottle of Uranus lube comes in two different sizes, 3 and 9 oz. With most silicone-based lubes, I have found I do not go through more than 1 oz in a month. So, most likely, one bottle will last several months. The graphics on the bottle are very attractive with a space theme. It is relatively discreet since it does not have a naked women on the label but it does say in fine print that it is a "anal" lubricant. Granted, most people (except for children) are going to know what a bottle of Wet is anyway. The major drawback to this product is actually the bottle itself. It is very smooth around all sides. The bottle opens with a flip-top that you press open. As you are pouring the lube out of the bottle, a small amount will inevitably run down the side of the bottle. As you use the bottle, more slick silicone lube will coat the outside of the bottle, making it difficult to hold onto, and eventually you'll drop the bottle or it will slip out of your hands. A quick fix would be to wrap duct tape around it, but that does take away from the nice aesthetic of the label.

The lube does not have much of a chemical smell but it does have an unpleasant taste. Silicone-based lubes are not really designed to be ingested or flavored anyway. However, if you like to alternate between handjobs and blowjobs, be forewarned. Finally, the two sizes of Uranus are $15 and $42 which is very reasonable for a good silicone lube. For comparison's sake, Pjur lube is $23 for 3 oz and Astroglide silicone is $15 for 2.5 oz. Even though it doesn't have warming or cooling effects or flavoring, everyone needs a good silicone lube and Uranus by Wet will fit the bill nicely.
Experience
We've used Uranus several times now: a couple of times for sex and handjobs and of course, anal sex. Since I like to mix up handjobs with blowjobs, we would prefer a flavored water-based lube for those. However, it worked great for vaginal sex and I only had to apply a little more for anal - not because it didn't last the whole time, but I underestimated how much I needed at first. Although, we usually use Gun Oil because of the convenient pump top, because it is getting a little annoying how slick the bottle becomes. Periodically we have to wash it off with soapy water and it's fine for a while. I think when we use up our Gun Oil, I'll try pouring our Uranus into that bottle instead. Just like with all silicone lube though, we made sure not to combine Uranus with any play with silicone toys since it will degrade those toys.
Follow-up commentary
I still use Uranus regularly. It's just a solid, well-performing lube - even though the bottle is still slippery as greased BBs.
