Definitely Better Than Spit

Sasha Grey's "Love Spit" is a water-based lubricant made by Doc Johnson. This lube is meant to look and feel like spit, which I guess is supposed to be a good thing, but if it was, why would you use lube instead of just using spit? Whatever the case, it is better than spit and some lubricants, but there are better options available. The best way to describe this lubricant as a whole is "it's in the middle." It has a medium consistency, a middle of the road longevity, and an overall average feel.

Use

"Love Spit" is a decent lubricant. There are much better options out there, but then again there are worse. This would best be used for vaginal use. For anal play, I found it to be too runny. It ran down toys and wasn't able to create that cushioning effect that makes anal comfortable. Masturbation may not be the best use for this either because I found it to dry too quickly and leave a little too much friction to be pleasurable for very long. Because this is a water-based lubricant, it is compatible with all toy materials. This isn't, however, the best lube to use for shower or bath play. The water and steam makes this wash off with ease, and you would be much better suited using silicone lubricant. Condom capability isn't an issue with this lube as it is okay to use with any condom. It does however contain glycerin, a substance that is problematic for women prone to yeast infections. So if you are prone to infections, you should use something else. A confusing aspect of this lube is that it specifically claims multiple times to be paraben-free, but methylparaben is listed as an ingredient. If you have negative reactions to parabens, I wouldn't risk using this lube.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Polyquaternium-7, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Polyacrylate, PVM/MA Copolymer, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Gluconolactone, Methylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Despite being advertised to feel like spit, it has a similar feel to most other lubes. The consistency of this lube was in the middle. It isn't extremely runny nor is it gel-like. If you put it in your hand and turn it over, it will drip after about 5 seconds. It also runs down your hand but leaves a thick trail. Additionally, the lube won't run out of the bottle unless you squeeze it. In use, this is a very slippery lube but dries relatively quickly and leaves you feeling pretty sticky.

Taste / Aroma

The smell of the lube isn't very strong, even when you put your nose right up to the bottle. The smell is difficult to describe. I would say it has a similar aroma to unscented soap or detergent. It isn't a bad smell, but not exactly desirable either. If you are concerned about the smell, you shouldn't have any problems with this. The taste, on the other hand, is pretty bad. It is quite bitter and feels slimy and unpleasant in the mouth. It doesn't tingle or anything, but I would still suggest washing it off before doing anything involving oral.

Performance

My experience with this has been in the middle. When I first poured it out of the bottle, it felt really good; it was slick and had a good consistency, but longevity may be an issue. It lasted about 10 to 12 minutes before it started drying up and getting sticky. Adding a little water did help rejuvenate the slickness, but it was only a temporary solution and if you want to continue, reapplication is necessary. It did clean up with ease, just soap and water completely washed it off. I was disappointed when I used it with toys. When I liberally lubed up a toy and simply rubbed it in with my hand, the lube was completely gone after about 2 minutes. It just didn't stay on the toy but rather absorbed into my hand. Reapplication would be a constant affair it would seem. Because of this, the 4 oz. bottle won't last that long. With consistent use, I would estimate you would go through this bottle in a few months. Finally, staining isn't an issue as this lube comes off sheets in the washing machine.
    • Dries up too fast
    • Gets sticky
    • Reapply often

Packaging

I like the packaging for this product. The bottle is matte black and looks very modern. The bottle is a flip top and is easy to open with one hand. When you flip the cap open, the lube drips slightly, but doesn't come running out. This is good as you only get lube where you want it. The flat cap is located on the bottom of the bottle which is nice because it stands up on its own without falling over. The bottle also is easy to hold, even with a lubed hand. The bottle is mostly discreet; the name is "Love Spit," so that may be too obvious, but there aren't any pictures or mention of being a lubricant.
    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense
Follow-up commentary
I really never used this lube again once I finished my review. It just doesn't fit my needs, and there are so many better options out there. I have no use for a lube that lasts 10 minutes and then becomes a sticky mess. I ended up throwing the rest of the bottle on one of my friends as a joke.

You did a good job with this review. Strange how it claims to be paraben free yet contains methylparaben.

The product name is hilarious. I'm sure there's someone who will buy it because of its name, but I imagine most people would be leery of it. Still, you couldn't argue that it grabs your attention.
