Don't let the bad taste of the Maximus deter you from purchasing this product. It is so easy to dispense the lube and it is so effective at doing what it must do. If I had to choose one waterbased lube for the rest of my life it would have to be the maximus. It is good all around for both anal and vaginal and it is safe with all toys. I am so glad I have tried this lube and have it. It is a great water based lube for anal play and in use with my silicone dildo's.
I can tell from having tried a few lubes, there is no lube that does everything. I have not found one yet. So I stick with Maximus when I need some good ole silicone sex toy loving or anal play.
Maximus really isn't ideal for male masturbation but it can do the trick used on the clitoris for a short period of time, also if no cunnilingus is planned.

I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Is Maximus as Great as The Reviews Say?

Two negative things I've seen written are that it has a bitter aftertaste and it does peel off, dry, and need to be washed off.
Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.
I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me. -
This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.

It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5
I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad -
