KY: The Original Jelly

This Jelly is convenient for a lube emergency but it will never be my number one. It is affordable and easy to acquire, but the ingredients are potential irritants and the sticky residue left on my skin are deal breakers.

Use

KY Jelly is the number 1 lubricant recommended by doctors on the market. This is a thick water-based lubricant that can be used for a variety of things. It can be used for vaginal dryness, sexual intercourse, masturbation, anal play, rectal thermometers, and as a general personal lubricant. A good thing about KY is that it is easy to find, this product is available in most grocery and convenience stores, as well as pharmacies.
KY works with any material type, there is no danger of any interaction there. The ingredients include parabens and glycerin which can cause irritation in those with sensitivities. This product is not a contraceptive and does not contain spermicide.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

KY Jelly is very thick, this is one of the thickest water-based lubricants I have encountered. This is a good quality, it is easy to dispense and stays where you apply it. It comes in a small tube with a flip-top lid. It can be opened and dispensed with one hand easily.
Once it is applied, it starts feeling slick and that quickly becomes sticky and tacky as it begins to dry. KY leaves a residue on skin when it dries, which is unpleasant and makes me want to shower immediately after use. It will last longer if you reactivate it with water or saliva, since it is so thick reapplication is not necessary very often.

Taste / Aroma

KY Jelly does not have a strong scent that is discernible. The scent reminds me of toothpaste for some reason, not necessarily minty, but that paste smell. It does have a chemical taste so I would not recommend using this for oral sex.

Performance

KY is thick so immediately you think it will last longer than it does. The water or saliva reactivation trick will give you some more time, but eventually the entire thing turns into a sticky mess. I would rather use a thinner lubricant that lasts longer than this Jelly. Afterwards, soap and water or a full shower is needed to get the residue off your skin. This Jelly is convenient and good to use in case of an emergency or lube shortage but I would not make this my go-to lubricant.
