Liquid Silk- Like what your body makes.
This definitely is not the best lube I've ever come across, but it is truly a great product to have on your bedstand. Although its not for the health/environment conscious, it still stands in as a product that really mimics the kinds of fluid your body normally makes on its own.Published: October 31, 2011
Pros:
Awesome packaging, mimics bodily fluids.
Cons:
Not Eco/body friendly. It contains harmful toxins such as parabens and alcohol. Bitter taste.
For some reason, a lot of people don't use lube. This is silly, since there are so many reasons to use it! For example, if you (or your partner) has been drinking, then your (or your partner's) vagina is dry. If you (or your partner) have a cold and you use antihistamines, which dry out your nose, you (or your partner's) vagina is dry. Plus, if you have anal sex you should ALWAYS use lube to prevent ripping and tearing. Lube is also great for safe sex since it puts less friction on a condom.
Liquid Silk is spectacular because it mimics the consistency of bodily fluids. It doesn't feel super watery, like most water based lubes do. In fact, it hardly drips and stays right in place. This allows sex to feel more like you aren't using lube; an experience that many are looking for.
As with all water based lubes, it tends to be absorbed into your body so there is a chance you may have to re-apply mid act. You may use it for all kinds of play, and it doesn’t make much of a mess. It doesn’t have a scent, and it's safe to use with condoms. Some great ways to use this lube are for vaginal penetration, oral sex under a dental dam, and masturbation.
The packaging of Liquid Silk is also a major pro of this product. Having a push pump is AMAZING and allows you to use only what you need without extra lube. The cute label reads, "BODYWISE, the subtle art of making people fit together and reducing friction in relationships," which is clever. Although, I do wish they hadn't alienated the single folks using this stuff for masturbation!
A potentially problematic part of this product is the taste. Its pretty bitter, and could be gross if you were to go down on someone after just using this for another type of play. However, if at all possible this can be overcome by applying a small drop to your hand, and tasting it prior to purchasing it in a big size.
It is also worth noting that this project contains toxins found harmful to general health and reproductive systems. This is NOT an environmentally/body friendly lube. However, not many kinds of lubrication are. If you scan the ingredient list you will find things like parabens, glycerin (which can give you a yeast infection if you are prone to them), and alcohol. These things are linked to cancers, skin reactions, and premature skin aging.

Follow-up commentary

I still think this is a really great lube, but unfortunately I would still give it the same rating since product ingredients are very important to me! However, I am happy to report that I haven't had any sort of reactions to the ingredients in Liquid Silk, even if they aren't body friendly.

no good?

i get the impression that this is crap......

Liquid Silk's not a bad lube, but "crap" or "awesome" depends a lot on what you want out of your lube. Like, do you want one for anal play or vaginal? For shower play? Are you a stickler for healthy ingredients?

It wasn't bad, but Alan and Michele have a point. What are you trying to get out of the lube?

Liquid Silk and Silicone Toys
-
So, while looking through highly rated water based lubes, I came across Liquid Silk. Aside from the bitter taste, no one seems to have any complaints.
However, I noticed that the fourth ingredient is Dimethicone - and I was wondering what everyone's experience with this and silicone sex toys was? Is the silicone in Liquid Silk a small enough portion that it has no effect on toys, or is it generally not recommended for that type of play?
Or does the bonding potential of silicone lubes have more to do with the type/quality of silicone than anything else? -
That's a really good question because Dimethicone is a silicone.
Basically it should be ok to use as long as the toy is made of medical grade silicone. There should, in theory, be no reaction. I, personally, wouldn't want to test that out on my own toys though. You can do a patch test on a small part of the toy. The reaction should be immediate if there is going to be one.
Anyone else know about this? -
I have had liquid silk react to a silicone toy. Which sucks because I love it. :(
