Luxurious Lube Worth Olympic Gold at Economical Price
The best and probably the purest lube I have ever used, and by far the thickest and longest lasting of the water based variety. Has a wonderful, natural feel without getting sticky. Non irritating. Has been around since 1981.Published: November 24, 2009
Pros:
Pure, clean feeling, safe, natural, proper pH for the vagina. Really lasts and lasts.
Cons:
A little stringy - like cervical mucous.
Probe Thick and Rich is my all time favorite lube for many reasons. Sure, it's rich and thick (even more so than Maximus), but it's an absolutely no bullshit product. It's been around since 1981 and made in the same Portland Oregon based Darvyran Labs who have supplied clinics, doctor's offices and better quality sex emporiums. For a good reason too - it's a stellar product. Darvyran cares about their reputation. (Got questions, they welcome your calls at 1-800-637-7623 )
Before I put anything on or in my body, I want to know what it's made with, how it feels viscosity wise, if it stains, stings, or has any deleterious chemicals. I buy Probe because it meets stringent requirements.
Probe, Thick and Rich is manufactured in a licensed laboratory that regularly subjects itself to microbiological testing by other independent labs for purity.
Probe Thick and Rich is a simple formula - it's greater than 90 percent deionized water, less than 10 percent silky glycerin from a vegetable source for moisturization, less than one percent polyetheline oxide - an FDA approved, inert polymer. It holds onto water and slowly releases the water with friction. Its preservative is less than one percent grapefruit seed extract that is used to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms.
Probe's pH is 6.5 to 7.5. It spermicidal activity is 100 percent killed in a test tube. (This does not make it a spermicide intra-vaginally. )
Probe only lists on its package information that it may kill some sperm and not to use if your goal is conception.
In Draize skin irritation levels it rated 0.32 -virtually non irritating to the skin or vagina. It is also safe for oral ingestion.
Probe has a shelf life of approximately 5 years. It comes in a peach and white rather boring plastic container with a rather air tight dispensing lid. It's very discrete looking, like hand lotion.
Probe does not stain clothing, sheets or carpets. Its instructions are in both French and English.

Experience
I found Probe Thick and Rich to be close to odorless and tasteless. It's a bit thick and stringy. It does allow you a lot of play time, and it works well with toys, condoms, anal toys. It is not at all sticky, either. It's something you need to put on your must try list. Because it stays moist and not slippery for an extended time, it's great for handjobs, anal, condoms, dildos, putting bullets into toys, and genital massage. Great for peri and postmenopausal women and Transmen who have less natural lubrication and are more prone to problems with friction and dryness.

For the price, you can not get any thicker, longer lasting or more pure. Its pure enough for clinic use. So what if it's a little stringy. The pH is perfect and really, everything in life has its proper pH or its world goes haywire and chaos occurs. Better than KY or Walmart's Equate.

Vegetable Glycerin?
-
I've been trying to find a nice lube with safe ingrediants but so far i've found very few and even those have been question. I've read that Vegetable Glycerin is made from vegetable oil and is good for the skin. But i've read that Glycerin can cause skin irritant in some people and in concentrated solutions can damage the mucous membranes. Is there a deffernce with Vegetable Glycerin and just plain Glycerin? or is it the same thing? Is it safe enough to use in lubes? What other ingrediants should i be warry about?

Glycerin is glycerin no matter where it comes from. Calling it vegetable glycerin is an attempt to trick you into thinking its something different. It may have different impurities, coming from a different source, but its still glycerin.

Glycerine is a component that is found in ALL animal and plant cells (including your own cells).
By specifying vegetable glycerin, the manufacturer is only trying to convey that the source of the glycerin is vegan friendly to those who have such concerns. But the chemical itself is the same.
I included a write up of several lube ingredients that people often seek to avoid in one of my reviews (look under the Personal Comments section). I also included links to reliable resources for checking any chemical about which anyone might have concerns. Here's the link to the review: link
Perhaps the descriptions of the various ingredients might be helpful.

Thank you for viewing Probe Thick and rich – lubricant review page!

I like reading your reviews. They're very informative and have some great tidbits of info too!
Nice review!
Nice review, Misha. You have some amazing facts in there. I bought some of this because I read many good things about it. It sounds like the purity is going to be difficult to match, but for actual use, I find the stringiness of this product to be very off putting. There are times of month when a woman's cervical mucous is stringy, but this is stringier than I have ever experienced. Usually cervical mucous might string 5 to 6 inches at the stringiest, but this stuff will string out over a foot. It does work well, but the stringiness can be pretty annoying.
This review was amazing! I love that you write about the ingredients and facts relating to the product. Thanks!
