Maximus is the gold standard

Pros:
Compatible with everything, non irritating.
Cons:
Pump bottle makes it hard to travel with.
Maximus is the thickest water based lube I have ever used. That's an important consideration when I buy a lubricant. It is much more cushiony and slower to dry than your basic drugstore squeeze-from- the-tube lube. No drip and plop here. It’s also slower to dry, which means no "wait a minute, pass me the tube, I gotta re-lube".
Maximus is clear like water, viscous but not at all sticky, and has no irritants in its formula. It’s basically water, propylene glycol to thicken it up, and parabens which act as antimicrobials and preservatives. There are no "warming agents", "tingling agents", sugars, artificial sugars or glycerins that can cause yeast infections.
Maximus comes in a convenient pump dispenser with 240 grams of lubricant. That's a lot of lube for less than twenty bucks, and its far thicker than the drugstore or pretty much any other brands, making it a smart buy.
Maximus is dispensed from a clear plastic bottle (recycle-able grade 3) with the word MAXIMUS, and in smaller writing at the bottom "A Water - Based Sensual Lubricant". There is always an expiration date clearly marked on the front, and a lot number. The product is safety sealed to prevent tampering and sampling. There's a black Corinthian column, and a Grecian Urn on the packaging, but otherwise its very unassuming and tastefully packaged; and it doesn't scream "sex" in any way.
Maximus is tasteless, odorless, and washes easily out of sheets, clothing, and off your body. It is not sticky, tacky, or greasy for something so viscous. It’s perfect for lubricating condoms, vibrators, dildos, anal toys, and for manual masturbation. It will not react with your toys, it will not destroy the integrity of your condoms or dental dams, it cleans up easily with your favorite method; be it antibacterial soap, toy cleaner, etc. If you are using toys that are not silicone, steel, acrylic, or glass. It is always wise to cover the toy with either toy covers, or condoms, before using lubricants and especially before anal play because many toys are porous and can harbor infectious bacteria.

Experience
I started purchasing Maximus a few years ago at the advice of a friend. Not only was I satisfied with the purity, value and of course the texture, but I was happy to see the company had contact information on the side of its packaging if I had questions.

It is still my favorite water-based lubricant. I really think hospitals would get some good use out of this product for echocardiograms, dopplers, ultrasounds, and internal exams. You don't need to reapply it, it’s so efficient. I love it because it doesn't leave me dry and irritated, and I will continue to use it. I still give it a 5 star, because it rates a perfect 10 to me. The only thing I would change would be to add a flip top cap, to lessen the chance of micro-organisms entering into the pump's opening. I do keep my open bottle dated (the date I opened it), and in a zip lock bag.

I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Maximus is my go-to lube. I have very sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

Is Maximus as Great as The Reviews Say?

Two negative things I've seen written are that it has a bitter aftertaste and it does peel off, dry, and need to be washed off.
Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.
I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me. -
This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.

It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5
I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad -

I haven't been sucessful at locking the pump down. I have hower, decanted Maximus into small travel squeeze bottles.
