The notorious Maximus lubricant packs quite a surprise for being a water-based lubricant. It's best used for special occasions than everyday sexual activities.

Use

In my experience, Maximus would be best suited for anal sex because of the thickness and viscosity of the product. Of course it works just fine for penetrative vaginal sex but it may be a bit too much. I would highly recommend against using it as an oral lubricant because it just seems excessive and it does not have a pleasant taste. I've also used this as a jack off lube on a partner and feel that wasn't the best use for the product. Maximus dried out fairly quickly but as long as there is some wetness to reactive the lube, you should be fine. One problem I would like to note is that it made the skin on my hands flake off. It did not burn nor hurt but it did take a few times before I realized it was in fact the lubricant causing my skin to become flaky.

It should also be noted that since this a water-based lubricant using it in the tub, shower, hot tub, or pool is ineffective. The product will immediately wash off and you will no longer have your lubrication. Look on the bright side, since it's water-based, you can use it with any sex toy material without fretting!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Maximus feels a lot like hair gel in my opinion. It's thick, lumpy yet smooth, and sticks in place pretty well. The Maximus does not pour but it does pump. It's much too thick to pour this product. If allowed to dry and not given enough wetness, Maximus does become sticky. This product definitely does not simulate one's own natural wetness. If you're looking for a more natural product then I recommend System JO H20 link.

Taste / Aroma

For the sake of this review, I will taste Maximus just so I can say I have. Done and done. I would highly recommend keeping this out of your mouth. It's definitely not very pleasant and could possibly hinder your enjoyment of giving oral sex. The smell is very light and it's not unpleasant. It smells like a toned down version of how it tastes. I personally would never wear eau de sexual lubricant ever. That's just me, so if you would, right on.

Performance

The Maximus is quite a large pump bottle and I received my first one in June. There is still some lubricant left and I believe I still have a couple months left. It's an easy product to wash off as it's water-based. My favorite feature of this product is how thick the lubricant is. It would be very safe to use for anal sex, condoms, and even toys. One of my pet peeves is that I had read the hype on this site about Maximus, I quite adore the product but it doesn't trump all others. I wouldn't use it as an everyday lubricant because of the cost and thickness.

Packaging

Maximus could easily be mistaken as hair gel because of the consistency and pump top. If one would take a moment to read the bottle, it very clearly reads "Water-Based Sensual Lubricant". That takes away the discretion of the product.

Experience

I've used this product for both masturbation and intercourse. I've found that one pump it's good enough to last a while. It's much better than other lubricants I've used for intercourse because of the thinness of others wears out quickly while the Maximus keeps going. The waterier lubricants also run allover the place and are harder to get in the right spots. The thickness of Maximus allows him to get into the exact spots you want him to go. He doesn't roll or slip off your fingers quite as easily as other lubricants. He's excellent for mid-coitus re-lubing. The easy pump top and sticking in place makes him the champion above all others.
Follow-up commentary
I'm still using my first bottle of Maximus, but I do plan on purchasing another bottle once I run out. I highly recommend it as a heavy duty water based lubricant.

Glad for the most part that you like this lube. I have been using it for quite some time and have never experienced flaking of the skin. It really is a good anal lube in my experience. I've used it with a penis sleeve as well and it works great. Your right though, a lot of people review and praise this as some godly product. While it's pretty good, there are better ones out there. If I could make a friendly suggestion, I would recommend including a list of ingredients on a product like this along with any allergy concerns Thanks for the review!

Forgot to add that I do agree it can dry quickly depending on how it is being used. I find for anal use it takes awhile before it dries or needs re-applying, but as a jack off lube it dries and absorbs fast.

I've never had an allergic reaction to any lubricant. I guess it's selfish not to point out what products can cause irritation but they have not for me.

    • I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?
    • I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

      Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.

      I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me.
    • This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

      Maximus is my go to lube, rarely use anything else. It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

    • It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5

      I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad
