Plenty of Cushion For Aggressive Pushin'
If you want to train up to larger toys or larger body parts, a lube with a lot of cushion will be of great value to you. It's worth paying a little higher price for the comfort. Maximus is a water-based lube that contains many ingredients common in water-based lubes; it doesn't make it natural but makes it safe for me since I am not allergic to the contents. Like other water-based lubes, it does have a bitter taste, but I don't use it in any instances where oral is involved. Silicone anal toys work very well with this lube because a thick coating stays on them well and is safe for silicone. As far as water-based lubes go, this seems to last longer when used anally. That's an important factor considering the value of long-lasting cushion for anal play with larger, more aggressive toys since they typically require an extended warm-up period.
It seems that the warm, moist environment inside the ass helps make this lube slicker over time. I've been able to comfortable sleep with the Severin Large inside overnight and removal was very comfortable the next day. If the lube is used externally, however, it gets sticky. If I stroke my cock for a longer session, I need to re-wet the lube with saliva. I think this lube is too expensive to use for anything other than anal play.
My history with Maximus began with a "chance meeting." A few months ago I bought the Pure Plug 2.0. Now I've ordered even larger toys and I'm sure I can take them.

I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Is Maximus as Great as The Reviews Say?

Two negative things I've seen written are that it has a bitter aftertaste and it does peel off, dry, and need to be washed off.
Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.
I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me. -
This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.

It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5
I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad -
