Silk is so 90s

Sliquid Silk is a decent lube, on par with most average water based lubes. It does have mostly organic ingredients, is paraben and glycerin free, contains organic botanicals and is body safe for pretty much anyone. It's not as silky as you expect it to be, however, making it less impressive as a hybrid lube.

Pros:
Hypoallergenic, vegan friendly, non staining, paraben free.
Cons:
Gets sticky fairly quickly, lacks the silkiness you expect.

extremely useful review
I've always been a huge, huge fan of Liquid Silk lube. As such, I was hoping Sliquid Silk would be comparable. Afterall, a lube that performs as well as Liquid Silk but contains none of the "bad" ingredients? It would almost have to be made of win.

Unfortunately for me, Sliquid Silk doesn't quite measure up. It's nice, don't get me wrong. It looks similar, with its creamy white appearance, but the texture is a bit different, a bit more gel like. It's less silky, more goopy and it definitely gets a bit tacky, fairly quickly, in comparison.

Sliquid Silk is a hybrid lube; water and silicone based. It's part of the Organics line but it not 100% organic, it just includes organic and natural ingredients. It behaves far more like a water based lube than a hybrid. Though it lists dimethicone in it's ingredients there is no silicone silky feel to this lube. That silky feeling, that silicone glide, is the whole reason for making a hybrid lube. All the properties of a water based with the additional silkiness of silicone.

If you don't let that bother you, though, the lube is okay. (I'm making excuses. Of course it's going to bother you. It's supposed to be silky and it's not. Still, let's try to focus on the good point, hmmm?) It's glycerin and paraben free, contains plant cellulose, aloe, vitamin E and a bunch of natural extracts so it's pretty much body safe. It works with silicone toys, in my experience, without harming them. (Probably because the amount of dimethicone is minimal, which explains why you can't feel it as an added silkiness)

Sliquid Silk comes in a nice, squat, apothecary brown bottle made of a shatter resistant plastic. The label is discreet and looks very much like something you'd find in a health food type store. The lid is click up, meaning it's easy to use one handed and because the lube is thickish it doesn't spill even if you leave it open and it tips over. You have to squeeze a bit to get it out of the bottle.

This lube starts out kind of gel like, a bit goopy, like most waterbased lubes. It spreads easily and lasts for about two minutes of friction if you don't add additional water or more lube. This makes it not great for anal sex or for male masturbation but it's okay for vaginal penetrative sex or female masturbation. Natural wetness mixed with the Sliquid Silk keeps it from drying up as fast as it does alone.

It does get a bit tacky when it dries but can easily be wiped off with a wet cloth.

There is little scent, despite the addition of the botanical ingredients but it does have a slightly bitter taste. I wouldn't recommend oral sex after having applied it.

Sliquid Organics lubes are vegan friendly, non staining and hypoallergenic.

Personally, I think it performs about the same as any average water based lube. As a hybrid it sort of fails since it, again, lacks the silkiness you expect.
Follow-up commentary
Sliquid lubes have been so very hit and miss for me. Some I love but the ones I don't love I seem to dislike quite strongly.

I'm not sure if it was my disappointment that this wasn't really comparable to Liquid Silk or if it's really that bad but it's just not very effective for me. It dries up too fast, smells a little weird and plain old doesn't feel good.

The good news is, after three months being opened, it hasn't changed at all. Some lubes don't do well once open but this one seems to be fine.

  • Lies!!
    • I was about to get the Sliquid silk organics over the regular Sliquid organics...until I stumbled across a review that says that it's not entirely water-based. It's actually a water-silicone hybrid lube, but Eden has it listed solely as a water-based lube. I was intending to purchase it to use with my silicone toys (which has the possibility of warping the silicone toys), so I'm very grateful that someone thought to post the truth about this lube in their review.
    • I've noticed this, too. As far as I've know, the only hybrid lube that is listed as "silicone/water" is Wet Synergy. Anybody know why this is?
    • It says the base is silicone / water on the product page - or do you mean it's listed that way somewhere else?

  • Sliquids shelf life?
    • Does anybody know what the shelf life on this would be? I'm wondering if it would be less than other lubes because of all the natural ingredients it contains. Any info on this or other natural lubes would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd like to know what it is as well.
    • I prefer the Sliquid organics line myself, but I don't know the shelf life. I'd love to know as well

  • Why is it called silk?
    • just wondering why it is called silk? I assume there is not silk involved since this is a vegan product. right? I have seen some cosmetics "infused with real silk" so the name is throwing me off. Just wanted reassurance
    • I'm going to answer assuming your question is serious.

If you read the product description, it states "Natural creamy and silky, non-sticky texture." The name "Silk" is referring to the texture of the lubricant, meaning it is smooth as in "smooth as silk."

when you have people try to sabotage you, it is not unreasonable to get paranoid. I know it says vegan, but so have lots of things that have said vegan but then were not.

like I said. just wanting reassurance. thanks.
