The Best Water-Based Lube, IF You Don't Mind Parabens

The name doesn't lie: Liquid Silk is just that. When comparing to water-based lubricants, this product blows the competition away. It lasts and lasts without getting sticky. A little goes a long way, so expect to get your money's worth and much much more!

Use

Liquid Silk is a water-based lubricant used for intercourse, foreplay, and toy use. For toys that are not silicone or oil-based lube compatible, you're going to want to use a water-based lube. Liquid Silk is by far the best water-based lube I have ever tried.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Liquid Silk does a good job of staying smooth for a long time. Unlike most water-based lubes, tackiness is never a problem. It never gets sticky, and it never feels greasy.

The packaging comes in a pump bottle, and a little goes a long way. Start off only using a half-pump, since this will be more than enough.

The creamy lube almost looks like semen (milky white and a little runny) but it feels velvety smooth and keeps you lubricated for a long time.

    • Thick
    • Velvety

Taste / Aroma

The product is virtually odorless, and has a faint lube-ish taste. I have yet to find a tasteless lube, but Liquid Silk comes very close.

Performance

Liquid Silk is now my favorite water-based lube. When it comes to performance, this stuff lasts as long as you do. It has a creamy natural feel, and never gets tacky.

However, it is a water-based lube. Shower play will not work, since it will rinse off easily.

Cleanup is a cinch, since it is water-based. A little water and a quick towel-off, and you're completely clean.

ALLERGY WARNING: If you are allergic to Parabens, this is not the lube for you. Ingredients for this lube are:

Highly Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Cellulose Polymer, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate NSE, B.N.P.D, Di Sodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, BHT

A former partner of mine was highly allergic to parabens, and would break out in a rash if she used this lube. As some reviews of this product suggest, make sure to check if you're allergic before purchasing this product. It's a fantastic lube, but not if it's going to make sure blister and get red...
    • Allergy concerns
    • Feels natural
    • Long lasting

Packaging

The packaging is simplistic. It comes in a plastic container with a pump top. My only complaint is the pump is too large. A half-pump is really all you need, since a little goes a long way, and this lube lasts and lasts...
    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense

Personal comments

I'm typically a 'natural' guy, and shy away from products using a lot of harsh chemicals or artificial ingredients. Liquid Silk is full of these.

...but... That's why the product is so long lasting. A natural water-based lube gets tacky fast, and needs to be reapplied often. In order for the quality to be superior, you need to use some synthetic ingredients.

I am glad neither my partner or I are allergic to parabens. This is a fantastic lube, and I will be buying this again when we run out.
Follow-up commentary
It's a good hybrid lube, but doesn't say 'hybrid' on it. I used it with a few silicone toys before reading the label, and luckily didn't have any issues arise.

Great lube, long lasting, and HIGHLY recommended. If you want a pure water-based product, check Sliquid out, but as far as hybrids go, Liquid Silk reigns supreme!

Actually, this in not just a water based lube. It's a hybrid lube. Dimethicone is silicone, just FYI. Otherwise, great review.

  • no good?
    • i get the impression that this is crap......
    • Liquid Silk's not a bad lube, but "crap" or "awesome" depends a lot on what you want out of your lube. Like, do you want one for anal play or vaginal? For shower play? Are you a stickler for healthy ingredients?
    • It wasn't bad, but Alan and Michele have a point. What are you trying to get out of the lube?

  • Liquid Silk and Silicone Toys
    • So, while looking through highly rated water based lubes, I came across Liquid Silk. Aside from the bitter taste, no one seems to have any complaints.

However, I noticed that the fourth ingredient is Dimethicone - and I was wondering what everyone's experience with this and silicone sex toys was? Is the silicone in Liquid Silk a small enough portion that it has no effect on toys, or is it generally not recommended for that type of play?

Or does the bonding potential of silicone lubes have more to do with the type/quality of silicone than anything else?
    • That's a really good question because Dimethicone is a silicone.

Basically it should be ok to use as long as the toy is made of medical grade silicone. There should, in theory, be no reaction. I, personally, wouldn't want to test that out on my own toys though. You can do a patch test on a small part of the toy. The reaction should be immediate if there is going to be one.

      Anyone else know about this?
    • I have had liquid silk react to a silicone toy. Which sucks because I love it. :(
