If you are looking for a thick lubricant with safe ingredients, Probe Thick and Rich was made for you. The stringiness can be annoying, but you shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

Use

I purchased Probe Thick and Rich because I was looking for a good, thick water-based lubricant for anal play. It is a good alternative to Maximus if you are looking for something with safe, natural ingredients. Probe is also pH neutral and safe for vaginal use. The label mentions that it is harmless if swallowed, so it could be used for oral, especially because there is no taste.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

True to its name, Probe Thick and Rich is very thick, but it is smooth. The lube comes out of the bottle easily, but the first thing you notice is the stringiness. The cap on the 8.5-ounce bottle is just a snap top and always leaves strings hanging. It might be a good idea to get the 17-ounce bottle in order to get the pump top.

Due to the stringiness, the lube certainly looks like it might be sticky when you first apply it, but it's very smooth, and the stringiness actually goes away as you use it. While the lube was not sticky upon application, I did notice that it got a little sticky when it started to dry. Luckily, it only takes a tiny bit of water to bring it back to its original state.

This lubricant was very easy to clean up. I was able to clean up everything easily with just a damp paper towel.

Taste / Aroma

Probe Thick and Rich is both tasteless and odorless. I expected a citrus smell or taste due to the citrus preservatives, but this lube is very plain in a good way.

Performance

Probe Thick and Rich performed well, but not quite as well as some of the other water-based lubricants that I have used. If you don't mind the stringiness, this lube is easy to apply due to its thickness.

I used this product with a silicone toy, and it stayed where I applied it rather than running off the sides like some lubricants. The first time I used it, penetration was smooth and easy, and I never felt as though I needed to reapply. Unfortunately, that caused a problem for me. The toy itself was still covered in lube and felt slick, but my skin felt dry and sticky. It only took a few drops of lube to get everything back to its previous slippery state, but my butt was a little sore later on because it was just a little too dry. On subsequent uses, I was sure to reapply every now and then to avoid this problem and haven't had any more issues.
    • Feels natural
    • Gets sticky

Packaging

My bottle of Probe came in a plastic bag. I always appreciate this because it will keep the rest of my order clean in the unlikely event that there is a leak during shipping. The bottle itself had plastic around it, but the plastic did not cover the cap, so it didn’t really have any purpose. It was very easy to remove it, but you could leave it on if you wanted to. There was a seal under the cap, which is always nice because you know the bottle is full and didn’t leak.

The bottle is made of white plastic and has a pink label. It does say "personal lubricant" on the front of the bottle, but it doesn't reference sex or masturbation at all. I would say that this bottle is discreet enough to put with other products if you don't have to worry about people reading the labels.
    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging

Personal comments

Probe Thick and Rich is an excellent choice for people who tend to have reactions to other lubricants with long lists of ingredients. The ingredients are very simple: purified water, vegetable glycerin, polyethylene oxide, and grapefruit seed extract.

As I mentioned above, it is pH neutral and safe for vaginal use. However, the label also says, "While not a spermicide, PROBE may kill some sperm—do not use if pregnancy is desired," so keep that in mind when making your purchase.
Follow-up commentary
I still like Probe Thick and Rich. It's not my favorite because it does seem to get sticky after about 15 minutes or so, but just a tiny drop makes it nice and slick again. For those of you who don't like parabens, I still strongly recommend this lube.

Yes, this a good lube I agree. I've been using mine for a while now. Definitely looking forward to trying some anal lube that's not so stringy and sticky though. I find that if this lube is drying up, adding a little water really perks it back up again.

Fabulous review!

  • Vegetable Glycerin?
    • I've been trying to find a nice lube with safe ingrediants but so far i've found very few and even those have been question. I've read that Vegetable Glycerin is made from vegetable oil and is good for the skin. But i've read that Glycerin can cause skin irritant in some people and in concentrated solutions can damage the mucous membranes. Is there a deffernce with Vegetable Glycerin and just plain Glycerin? or is it the same thing? Is it safe enough to use in lubes? What other ingrediants should i be warry about?
    • Glycerin is glycerin no matter where it comes from. Calling it vegetable glycerin is an attempt to trick you into thinking its something different. It may have different impurities, coming from a different source, but its still glycerin.
    • Glycerine is a component that is found in ALL animal and plant cells (including your own cells).

By specifying vegetable glycerin, the manufacturer is only trying to convey that the source of the glycerin is vegan friendly to those who have such concerns. But the chemical itself is the same.

I included a write up of several lube ingredients that people often seek to avoid in one of my reviews (look under the Personal Comments section). I also included links to reliable resources for checking any chemical about which anyone might have concerns. Here's the link to the review: link

Perhaps the descriptions of the various ingredients might be helpful.
