This lube lives up to its name

Feels like a budget price, without compromising quality and compatibility with a wide range of materials. I don't feel bad about liberally applying lots of this lube because it feels great when I use lots and doesn't cost too much.
Published: February 3, 2012
Pros:
-Thick, making it excellent for anal use
-Long-lasting when used anally
Cons:
-Gets sticky and dries out when used externally
-Stringy when squirting out of the bottle

extremely useful review
I wanted to try a different lube for anal play. I've been enjoying Maximus for quite a while now, but was interested in what other options there are since Maximus has a premium price. I knew that I wanted something thick, because that is part of the reason Maximus works so well. I selected Probe Thick and Rich because it doesn't contain animal-derived glycerin and it had positive reviews.

The first observation I had about this lube is that it is thick to the point that is comes out stringy. That probably sounds strange, but it is somewhat difficult to prevent it from dripping all over. When you squirt some on your hand and move your hand away, a string of lube is sure to follow. I find I need to use some quick action with my other hand in order to reduce the amount of lube stringing behind. I'm not sure what component of the lube causes this, but it can be a nuisance and I've never encountered it with another lube.

I cannot discern any taste or smell from Probe Thick and Rich.

I can spread this lube in ample amounts on a silicone plug and it clings nicely. However, if the plug isn't inserted within the first few minutes, the lube starts to "pool" back together. The thickness and viscosity of this lube are probably to blame. It hasn't caused a problem for me. The lube stays within my body well when I use a syringe to inject some anally, but it doesn't stay as well as Maximus, which is thicker.

If I'm not inserting one of my largest toys (like the A-Bomb), then Probe is plenty thick for my needs. Thickness combined with slickness isn't always easy to find. However, thickness can sometimes come with a lack of staying power. Probe Thick and Rich has near equivalent staying power to Maximus when used anally, but if I use it while stroking, for a more juicy feeling, it requires some rewetting with saliva or more lube. It seems that the warmth and moisture benefits this lube when used anally.

Washing this lube off takes more soap and water than Maximus. The water makes it feel more slick, which makes me want to explore some shower use in the future.

I'm planning on Probe Thick and Rich being my go-to anal lube when I don't need the luxury of Maximus for the occasion.

I find the stringiness somewhat annoying, but if you can get past that it is a pretty good lube. I definitely prefer Maximus, but this isn't a bad alternative that would be improved without the stringiness.

  • Vegetable Glycerin?
    • I've been trying to find a nice lube with safe ingrediants but so far i've found very few and even those have been question. I've read that Vegetable Glycerin is made from vegetable oil and is good for the skin. But i've read that Glycerin can cause skin irritant in some people and in concentrated solutions can damage the mucous membranes. Is there a deffernce with Vegetable Glycerin and just plain Glycerin? or is it the same thing? Is it safe enough to use in lubes? What other ingrediants should i be warry about?
    • Glycerin is glycerin no matter where it comes from. Calling it vegetable glycerin is an attempt to trick you into thinking its something different. It may have different impurities, coming from a different source, but its still glycerin.
    • Glycerine is a component that is found in ALL animal and plant cells (including your own cells).

By specifying vegetable glycerin, the manufacturer is only trying to convey that the source of the glycerin is vegan friendly to those who have such concerns. But the chemical itself is the same.

I included a write up of several lube ingredients that people often seek to avoid in one of my reviews (look under the Personal Comments section). I also included links to reliable resources for checking any chemical about which anyone might have concerns. Here's the link to the review: link

Perhaps the descriptions of the various ingredients might be helpful.
