After spending over a year looking for a good water based lube, I've found Maximus. I'm not going anywhere unless they come out with a Maximus II. There is a reason this lube has so many reviews, it rocks!Published: January 19, 2010

What is smooth, thick, clear, and comes out of a one handed pump? Ok, easy guess, Maximus water based lube.
Maximus is probably the highest rated water based lube on Eden Fantasys, now I know why. This is the thickest, smoothest, and least sticky water based lube I've ever used. I've been on silicone based lubes for a few years now and never really planned on using water based unless I was playing with silicone toys. After trying out Maximus, I think I'm back on water!
Yes, it does have the assortment of Parabens. It also has Propylene Glycol. Yes, some people have sensitivities to these. I've done some research into the Paraben debate. As far as this non-doctor can tell, it's ok in moderation (like aspartame).
Maximus comes in a 250 mL / 8.45 oz. pump bottle. This is my first lube with a pump handle...I'm spoiled now. I don't want to use a non-pump bottle anymore for lube. It's just so handy to have it on the bedside table. The nice thing about the packaging is that it is reusable. Maximus came to my door with a seal over the pump and wrapped in a plastic bag. Other than the words "A water-based sensual lubricant" you can't tell this is a bottle of lube. Maximus is so clear and mostly free of tell-tale bubble, you'd mistake it for a bottle of water....with a pump.
One advantage of water based lubes over the rest is that you can use it with pretty much any and every toy/device. The only real draw back from water based lubes is that you can't (generally) use them in water. A little bit of water will revitalize Maximus, a lot of water will wash it away.
Of the water based lubes I have used (even those without glycerin/glycol and parabens), this is the least tacky/sticky. As an experiment, I left some on my hand to see how tacky it got without washing it off. After a few minutes, it seemed to almost completely absorb into my skin.
Neat bit of info: Maximus comes from the Isle of Wight in the UK. You can take that to the bank.

I didn't have to reapply Maximus. This completely surprised me when I realized it. I've always needed to reapply every water based lube I've ever used.
The price is reasonable all around. It's very long lasting. I don't think I'll need to look around for another water based lube for a while.

I still can't imagine my life without Maximus. I'm really sad it's out of stock as of the writing of this follow up. I have one bottle left and need to pick up another. Trust me, you really want to have two bottles, one for each side of the bed!
Admittedly, this has spoiled me too. I have to have an easy one-handed pump top on all my lube now. It's a must!

I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Maximus is my go-to lube. I have very sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

Is Maximus as Great as The Reviews Say?

Two negative things I've seen written are that it has a bitter aftertaste and it does peel off, dry, and need to be washed off.
Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.
I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me. -
This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

Does Maximus come in any other size bottles? I feel like 8 oz. would be a lot for me to use before it goes bad. Also, it seems like a big bottle to store somewhere discrete.

It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5
I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad -
