Yar, Precious Booty!

THE anal lube. An amazing product that will help you like no other during a booty call. The consistency is perfect and will last you for as long as you go.

Use

Maximus is a lube that works well in just about any situation, but is particularly suited to anything anal. I would assume that it works for vaginal sex as well, though we haven't tried it in that manner yet. That said, others on EF have said it worked without issue, and you could possibly thin it out with water, if necessary.

Another consideration is the ingredients, which are fairly standard for water based lubes. The main thing to watch out for are the paraben preservatives, which are under some criticism due to possibly being linked with breast cancer, though no actual correlation has yet been found. They can be an allergen in some cases though, so you may still want to research them first.

Here's the ingredients as well: Highly Purified Water, Propylene Glycol Cellulose Polymer, Di Sodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The consistency of Maximus is probably it's best attribute. It's a very thick lube and so it stays where you want it to go. It has a very lumpy look to it, unlike the smooth water drop look of KY, but it doesn't have that lumpy texture when in use. Certainly looks cool as the bottle empties though!

It's amazingly smooth during use as well. It's a piece of cake to apply, and you should only have to do that once or twice!

Taste / Aroma

There's virtually no smell, and it has that typical sharp lube taste. Not going to cause any problems if you accidentally lick some, but it's still something I would avoid. In addition, I believe that the ingredients are non-toxic, but you still shouldn't plan on dressing a sandwich with it anytime soon!

Performance

This bottle has performed like a champ. Most of the other reviews are accurate when they say it only requires one or two applications; it really does. Because the consistency is so thick, it goes where you put it, and stays there. Doesn't dry up for almost the entirety of your use, and it won't run halfway down your leg if think about moving, like Astroglide.

I have noticed something peculiar about the lube, however. Upon initially using it, I always get a really warm and tingling sensation. I don't know if it's any sort of allergic reaction or just a feature of the lube, but it never actually bothers me. Within two minutes, that's usually disappeared. That said, you may want to keep that in mind if it may affect you. (As mentioned in the comments, this may be a minor reaction to the parabens)

Also, the lube does feel really smooth, overall. It never really gets sticky, and washes off easily.

Another note on performance is that by being water based, it should work with virtually any material. I've personally used it with both rubber and silicone, entirely without issue. I've also yet to notice any staining on the bedsheets, which was a constant issue with Astroglide.

Packaging

The packaging is also really great. The bottle's clear and could be fairly easily mistaken for something not sexually related. There's also a really awesome pump bottle...that I broke upon attempting to open. Being the fairly manly man I am, I've never opened a lotion bottle or anything of that nature, so I couldn't figure out where to twist open the lid from. Naturally, I brute forced it, which completely and totally broke the oh so awesome pump. Luckily, I had just retired my Astroglide bottle, so I stole that lid. Sadly, I'll have to wait until I've ordered more in the future to report back on pumping it up, so to speak.

Personal comments

Overall, this lube was well worth the purchase. If your planning on doing anything anal at all, get this. It lasts a lot longer than KY, and it literally blows Astroglide away. I had originally been using Astroglide for months because that was what was touted online at various sources as the defacto anal lube. Turns out it was the most impractical lube ever. It ran everywhere, needed to be applied constantly, and was pretty sticky too. Maximus was everything that I was originally told Astroglide was, which made me ecstatic!
Follow-up commentary
In my original review, I was a huge fan of Maximus due to its consistency and the overall performance of it, though I did mention the unpleasant reaction I had to the parabens in it. The consistency is still good overall, but the unpleasant reaction I had has become more apparent overtime, to the point that Maximus is no longer my preferred lube. For the time being, I've gone back to KY, but hopefully I can have a review of some different lubes to use instead in the coming months.

If I recall, paraben might have been criticized as a whole at some point, but I'll have to look into that.

The tingling might be a minor reaction to the parabens.

If you want a thinner lube for vaginal use there's no reason you can't thin out Maximus with a little water.

Maximus works great for vaginal use, lots of ladies with lubrication issues recommend this product highly. Have to agree with Scott A about the parabens possibly being the cause of the tingling/heating issue, if it doesn't cause serious discomfort you should be fine using it.

Thanks for the thoughts on the issues, parabens probably are the cause. It disappears briefly afterwards, so I don't think it's a problem yet.

@Pandahb: I've currently got strictly rubber and silicone toys, and have yet to see any issues with either. On the rubber toys, I've always used condoms, so I can also verify that it works great with those. It's water based, so I doubt there would be any issues with materials. Unlike Astroglide, I've yet to notice any staining, but that may be because it simply behaves better at not running!

I'll be updating the review shortly for some of these concerns. Thanks again!

    • I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?
    • I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

      Positives and opposites I've heard are that it has a natural tasteless feel similar to saliva, and it is a thicker lubricant. Also the pump looks like a great feature that makes this product less messy.

      I would like to try it for myself, and wonder if it is really the go-to lube for me, and for others like me.
    • This is my favorite water-based lube, hands down and without a doubt. It's pretty thick (ideal for backdoor fun). I've fallen asleep with it on my hands and don't wake up with fuzzy or sticky palms (until they get wet, then it reactivates).

      Maximus is my go to lube, rarely use anything else. It is slightly bitter but not bothersome. It is thicker and also works very well for anal. I never feel the need to wash it off unless I overdue in the heat of passion.

    • It really isn't very big - I have mine it a bedside drawer. Maximus is so thick that you don't have to worry about it leaking unless you really press on the bottle. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me, the bottle is about 2-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2 to 5 inches tall (including pump), and I think it's closer to 4.5

      I think mine's good to 2013 or something (I'm not at home now, but I can check later), so I wouldn't worry about it going bad
