Lovely Dress But....

Although the dress is beautiful, it does not fit at all. I followed the Leg Avenue sizing guide but was very disappointed. I'll never be able to wear this dress.

I was so excited to get this dress in the mail! My husband really likes the Japanese look, and I was planning to surprise him by being in the kitchen cooking homemade stir-fry in this gorgeous little pink number with my hair pinned up with chopsticks when he got home on Friday night after a hard week of work. It looked tame enough to wear through the evening in front of the kids, and hot enough to put them to bed early!

I was thrilled when the mailman brought the package to the door, and raced right to the bedroom to try it on! The dress felt beautiful! Just like the kimono my father brought my mother from Japan. (Amazing, when you know it's really only nylon!) I unzipped it and stepped in.

But this is where my fantasy came to a screeching halt.

When I ordered the dress, I had carefully studied the Leg Avenue sizing guide. Now, I normally wear a size 6 to 8 jeans, depending on the brand, and a size medium top. I have a 36 in. bust, a 28 in waist and 38 in. hips. My instinct for buying lingerie is to buy a large, because with both wide hips and a full, round bum, I usually need to fit for my lower half. I have a small cup size, but as long as the garment fits a B, I can make due with a padded strapless bra. So I thought, since the hip size does say to 38” and the clothing size says it fit to a size 11, I’m probably better off with a medium. After all, I don’t want to look as though I’m dressed in a Japanese-style potato sack!

I was so disappointed. The dress fit… barely… but only with the hooks on the sides of the hips unhooked. The waist fit fine. I might have planned to use it anyway, as a “not for outside the bedroom” costume. With the waist tight and my booty looking like an Hispanic pop star, it might have been ultra-sexy if it weren’t for the section from my ribs up. The chest is huge. I would have to be a 38C or D to fill it up. And the top portion was much too long for me. The black ribbons that attach the collar to the dress would have needed to be taken in a lot in order to stretch provocatively from the neck to the chest as shown in the pictures. In short, the amount of needlework and alterations that would be needed to make this dress look sexy is too much for me to even consider.

So, since Edenfantasys does not do returns on lingerie (and we can all appreciate that), please consider the sizing advice I’ll add here. If you have a 38C chest, a 28 inch waist and 36in hips with a flat butt or 34in hips with a small butt, buy the medium. If you need to go larger, be sure you have the hourglass figure you will need to wear this effectively. If you can go smaller, you may need to have the dress tailored to fit you at the chest.

About the basics: the dress is 100% nylon. It must be hand washed separately in cool to lukewarm water, and laid flat to drip-dry.

Well that sucks. Oh, the woes of buying clothing online. I'm pretty sure most of this less-expensive lingerie is probably designed for the mannequins that model it in pictures.

Thanks for the heads up. Buying lingerie on line is always problematic.

Huh, I thought this dress was more Chinese-themed than Japanese-themed (the hues, the pattern, the collar, etc.) I've run into many of these problems buying Chinese dresses (your run-of-the-mill fitted cheongsam, which this dress is based off of) in China. I have tried to buy dresses for friends while on my summer trips to China, and it never works out unless they give me their precise bust, hips, and waist measurements beforehand so that I can go straight to a seamstress/tailor and have it custom-made. This is the only way that you can be sure a Chinese dress will fit you spot on, because of how "tight" the look is and how little give the fabric has. I've bought an "already sized" Chinese dress before in XL (their version of our medium, basically), and while it fit my bust and hips, the waist was all saggy.

Given, that's no excuse for Leg Avenue to slack off in their making of this risque spin-off. Perhaps if they had used stretchier fabric for the bust and hips, the sizes could fit a larger range of people. However, with this cut and the "brocade" feature, it would have been incredibly difficult. I'm so sorry you had to go through that disappointment! What are your plans for the dress? Give it away to a friend or maybe try to make a purse out of the fabric?
