Shades of passion - dress discontinued by DreamGirl - review by LavenderSkies

When I first saw this product newly listed on EdenFantasys, I was excited and put it in my cart immediately! My goal was to build up my BDSM lingerie collection, and the added chain whip sealed the deal for me. What I received, however, was a major letdown.

Taking my new set out of Dreamgirl's traditional cardboard box, I was greeted with an awful stench. I can best describe it as burnt plastic smell. This was mildly off-putting but I was still excited to fully inspect my product. I unfolded the dress and quickly jumped into it. For once, I was faced with the OPPOSITE problem that I have with most one size fits all lingerie, this piece was actually too BIG! Material hung off of me. I am not too petite of a person, I am 5'4" 120 lbs, B cup breasts, with a slim body. Those who are even smaller than me will never be able to wear this without taking in some material, which would be difficult as this is fishnet.

Additionally, I also noticed very large, awkward seams on my sides while wearing this dress. I felt that this was distracting and you are likely to agree if you are a detail-oriented person.



However, other details of the dress such as the 4 chain bust adornment was cute and added a "hardcore" appearance to it.
The material of the wet-look portion of the dress is not like most wet-look pieces, as it is very very thin and feels silkier.

The tag of this dress instructs owners to "dryclean only" but I don't forsee myself taking this in without getting some high eyebrows. I would hand wash in cold water and lay to dry, as the fishnet material could stretch while drying. I would also advise to store this laying down, as a hanger could eventually pull on the stretchy fishnetting over time.

The whip:
I am a novice to bdsm tools, so I thought the added chain whip was a bargain. Unfortunately, the whip is a huge dud and I don't plan on using it. The plastic, hollow handle of the whip reeks of a burnt plastic smell, and I am not sure if this will dissipate over time. The next flaw in the whip was how the chain portion was secured. There is a ZIP TIE fastening the chains to the handle, and this zip tie is easily seen at all times. A little ugly, if you ask me. Also, as a result of the zip tie holding the chains in place, I can pull on one of the chains and easily pull it out. The chains do not go inside of the handle at all, like I thought they would to ensure a better hold. The only nice thing about this whip is that is can deliver a nice sting. I have not played with it enough to see what kind of marks may develop as a result of the whip.




All in all, the Shades of Passion set by Dreamgirl is mediocre to me. Unless you can look past the cheap whip, seams on the sides of the dress, or you're larger than 120 lbs, this may as well be skipped over.

After more than a week after receiving this, I would have expected the product to air out. I purposefully placed it in a well ventilated area to try to diminish the burnt plastic stench from the cheap whip- but to no avail! The smell is still as strong as it ever was and is very off putting. I am afraid I won't be able to use this enjoyably. It is very disappointing but you win and and you lose some. It will find a new home soon.
