Not The Quality of Coquette I am Used to

This gown isn't something I'd normally go for, but I thought the slit and rhinestone decals were sexy. I didn't feel that sexy in it though. I didn't like the way the dress fell after my hips and the band cut in even though I am in the middle of the supposed size range.

extremely useful review
I've been a fan of Coquette for about two years now. I own a lot of their line and have come to know their products as well fitting and good quality. I'd say that this dress isn't up to those previously high standards I have for Coquette. I'm not a fan of the material and the fit is off. This is one piece I won't be wearing. I don't find it flattering and it's a tad uncomfortable. I'd reserve this for the petite sizes only.
[*Contents/overview: | One piece dress/gown]

This gown does not come with a matching thong. It is a one piece mesh dress that features a high slit, rhinestone detail, and adjustable spaghetti straps. It comes in a one-size fits most.

*Materials: Decent but cheap

The gown is made of materials I am less familiar with. The dress is made of 60% acrylic and 40% polypropylene. These materials hold color well and have a good amount of stretch. The mesh is very fine, but isn't very soft. It feels sort of starchy. It can even feel a little abrasive after a while of being rubbed. I have to give it points for being breathable and light though. Other materials include velvet trim and faux rhinestone decals.

*Design/craftsmanship: Pretty good

The dress is am ankle length gown (or will be on most heights). The gown is solid except for a large thigh high slit cut up the left thigh. At the top of the slit is the rhinestoned burst design. The shape of the dress is more or less a tube that doesn't have much flow.

The bust is a bikini and bias cut that has a deep neck line. The very base of the cut lies at the base of the breasts. The cups are bikini style with no added support besides a velvet band that runs underneath the breasts and around the back. The spaghetti style straps can be adjusted like on a bra. The edges of the dress and slit are finished and create a sort of waved look.

The back cuts straight across and lies right below the shoulder blades. Since the fabric is see through, nipples, tattoos, and other naughty bits can easily be seen.

Although this does not come with a matching thong, adding a plain black one is easy. I suppose you could add a pop of color with another one, but I feel that black looks best since it is very elegant.

Care/Storage/Packaging: Hand wash

The tag says to hand wash. The material can be dripped dried in a short amount of time. I don't recommend washer and dryer use because of the rhinestones. The dress came in a box with pictures on the front and back of the model wearing the dress. The rhinestones come with a clear sticker over the entire area to protect them until the dress is worn. If the box doesn't fall apart like mine did, it can be used for storage or the dress can be hung in a closet.
Experience
*Sizing: Runs small for Coquette, not true to chart

Coquette's products have been great for me. I'd say out of every 10 I own, only one was a miss (and never entirely). This dress runs small in ways that I don't feel like I should while wearing it. It's tight in the worst places. As a one size fits most item, it fails to work for the mid-range sizes. I usually wear a medium or large in select cases. This feels more like a S/M to me.

I weigh ~145 pounds (size ~7/8); curvy but fit. The one size fits most size says it should fit a 4-14 dress size, B cup, 34-40" bust, 26-32" waist, and 36-42" hip. These measurements are not correct. The dress will fit the low end of them, barely fit the midrange, and you forget about the high end.

Let's start with the bust. I have size 34/36 D breasts. I can't say they fit perfectly, but they do fit and didn't feel too uncomfortable. Any larger, it would cut in too much and there would be major spillage over the cups. I'd say a B-C is best for the cups. They felt supported, but only because this is tight. The band isn't very accurate. I felt like it was cutting into me too much and I'm on the low end of the range. The straps were comfortable and easy to adjust to an appropriate level.

The mid body of the dress fits me very nicely. It doesn't pull and just compliments my silhouette. My waist is about 30". So if you are smaller, it won't hug as nicely, and if you are larger, the material might pull and crease. The hips were a bit small though. While the fabric didn't pull around my 38" hips, I didn't like the way the dress fell after that. It created a mermaid look which didn't seem right for the material or the original design of the dress. The length ends around my ankles which is also something I don't like. I'd rather it be a bit longer or knee length. I am 5'6". so you can use that to gauge where this would fall on you.

MY RE-DONE SIZING CHART: I reduced the max measurements for the most part

Dress: 4-8
Cup: B-C (probably best)
Band: 32-34"
Waist: 26-31"
Hips: 34-38"

*Conclusion: 3 Stars

I'm just not happy with the look of this enough to recommend it to many people. It might just be me and being picky with how things look, but that doesn't excuse the size range that is incorrect. I am not a fan of the material either. It feels cheap and somewhat gritty. BUT, for the price, this was decent.
Follow-up commentary
Even after losing 2 dress sizes, I'm not a fan of this. It still falls strangely. I lost about 1.5" off my hips, but it didn't make a difference. This is best for women who are medium height, with smaller hips.
