Charmeuse robe and thong - peignoir discontinued by DreamGirl - review by mpfm

The charmeuse black robe and thong by Dream Girl is a classy black robe with side lace insets. Charmeuse refers to the the type of fabric weave. The fabric is woven in a specific way creating a lustrous and reflective satin-like finish on the front and a dull finish on the back. Charmeuse can be made with either silk or polyester. The black panels on this piece are 100% polyester. They are shiny and glossy and yes, it does remind me of satin. The lace insets are 90% nylon and 10% spandex. The lace is soft and comfortable, not itchy at all.

This robe is only available in black, but has a wide variety of sizes. I am a size 20 and a 3X/4X according to the Dream Girls Size Chart. It fit beautifully, so at least this runs true to size. It is just a robe and thong. There is no chemise included. As with most robes, there is not additional breast support. I thought it fit well and looked great without any support. If you needed a bit of lift, you could wear a sexy bra or other supportive lingerie underneath. My husband and I both agreed it looked great without any extras. It's soft and comfortable while still being sexy. There were not any rough edges

I am only 5'2" so this was rather long on me. It hit at about 2 inches above my knee. On the model it hits at her upper thigh. I love the longer length on me. If you are taller it will be shorter, though.

Now unto the nitty gritty details...

The black polyester material is shiny and it is somewhat sheer. In the light it is somewhat see through. I mean you can see shadows of my body in the light. Obviously wearing something underneath would change that. Of course the lace is also see through. The lace insets start at the shoulder and go down both the front and back. The insets start small, but widen as it goes down the body. At the shoulder there is about 3 inches of lace, at the waist there is about 6 inches, and at the bottom there is about 10 inches. It is very similar on the back. On the front my nipples are covered by the black material, but my side boobs are exposed by the lace. Depending on your mood, the belt can be tied to either show some cleavage or cover them up completely.

The arms also have lace insets. They start at the shoulder and cover the elbow side. The arms go clear to my wrist and are full at the bottom like a bell.


The robe features both an inner and outer belt. Both belts are permanently sewn unto the garment. The inner belt consists of a tie connected to the inner front of the left side. The second tie on the right is located at the middle of the lace panel. Tying them together gives the robe a better fit and holds the whole thing together if the outer belt is just loosely tied. The outer belt is sewn on permanently in the back. There are belt loops on either side. As I said earlier, the belt can be pulled tight for full coverage, or it can be tied loosely to show more cleavage. The model has it tied loosely to tease just a bit. It is very effective at that.

The thong is nothing special. It is just the standard thong that is included in lots of lingerie. It fits me, but will probably languish in my underwear drawer. That's fine. I didn't buy it for the thong.


The robe is fairly well made. I didn't find any frayed edges or stray threads on the robe itself. However the outer belt had a few stray threads and a tiny section where the seam had ripped open. I can fix that easy enough. If I hadn't caught it early enough, the entire seam may have ripped out. A few stitches and this will be good as new. A second drawback to this piece is that it does collect lint. I didn't notice at first, but little fuzzies are visible when held up to the light. Those are the only flaws I found and I am willing to overlook them because everything else is great.

The tag recommends hand washing and hanging up to dry. I will probably throw it in the washer in a lingerie bag, but I'm obstinate like that.

I really love this piece. I feel sexy and elegant wearing it. That's always a great combination. Since it is just the robe & thong, I was going through my lingerie drawer trying to decide what to wear with it. I have a couple of chemises that would work. It would also work well with a sexy bra & panty set. My husband's suggestion was to wear it with nothing but black thigh highs preferably with back seams and heels. That sounded reasonable and was a big hit. It is probably destined to be worn with nothing else here at my house.

I still love this robe. I have paired it with nothing but crotchless stockings multiple times, and it's always a hit. I haven't even bothered trying to find a chemise to wear with it. I have also washed it in the washer with other delicates without any ill effects.

It's a winning combination of sexy and classy.
