My girlfriend Elle and I picked this out for her to wear, so I'll be giving you my opinion and hers. Mine is simple - it looks amazing on her. The shelf bra, of course, shows off her breasts amazingly. The garter belt showed off her hips amazingly, and the thong - well, neither of us like thongs much, so it came off pretty quickly. The set without the thong looked amazing as well... you see where I'm going with this. I recommend this set, especially for women with curves.
The material is nice - stretchy and synthetic, but still very soft and sleek. Elle said it felt good on her as well. Elle is somewhere between a C and D cup, and the large size bra fit fine. It had three band settings, which helped... In fact, all three parts of the set fit well, which was great. The garter belt is stretchy, and you can adjust the length of the straps.
One con was that after about 15 or 20 minutes, Elle said the underwire in the bra was starting to feel uncomfortable. But that's easy to fix, just take it off (Most lingerie isn't really meant for long-term wear anyway). Also, it was a little difficult to attach and detach the garter belt from the stockings. The fastenings seemed delicate, so we were both careful with them. I'll let you know how they hold up over time. I've also never had another garter belt to compare it to. I gave it one less star for this, but still love it
The set came out of the box with a strong synthetic fabric smell, but this dissipated once Elle left it out for a while. So you probably won't want to just pull it out of the box and put it on.

Lots of questions pop into my mind and I've got more. I would suggest reading other reviews on lingerie to see what details others have included. I left out details when first reviewing lingerie and adding detail comes with time. Thanks for the review.
I guess I'll start by answering the questions you've asked. Elle told me that she had to use the very last clasp setting for the bra, and that was with a size L. The garter belt was not at the widest it could go and she is a size 12 pant, so probably up to a size 14 or 16 could fit fine in the garter belt. Based on this, I would say that the product is probably not made for curvy women and that women with particularly large breasts might not get the effect that they are looking for because the shelf is not very large and gets covered by Elle's breasts sometimes (which are between a C and D cup).
But Elle has now washed the lingerie (using a washing machine. It should probably be handwashed, it's just awkward to do this in a college setting) and it has kept its shape. On another note, it does make her feel itchy after a while. Considering she washed it, I think it's because Elle is not used to wearing lacy products, she's a bit more butch usually.
And finally, the pasties were used more for a "discreet" effect on the packaging. They don't come with the set.
I hope that's cleared up at least some of the confusion and of course I am new at reviewing lingerie so any advice is truly appreciated.
