So Nice but So Short!

I love almost everything about the Darque Corset by Coquette. I love the style of the corset, the appearance, and the way it fits. The only issue I had with the corset was the length. It's a really short corset so it will show your hips, belly, and bottom back whether you want it to or not. I prefer to keep these areas covered but I can't do that with the corset length. If you have a shorter torso or don't mind exposing these areas, I'd recommend the corset to you.

The Darque Corset by Coquette is available in sizes S-1X/2X. I had purchased a few wet-look pieces by the company before this one and knew that the XL seemed to run a bit big on me, especially in the chest area. Usually I wear an XL but I decided to go for the large with this piece.

The corset arrived on a clear plastic hanger. The piece was surrounded by plastic that did not have any photos or text on it. The hanger would be excellent to use for storing the corset when you’re not wearing it. There was a cardboard tag attached to the corset with a few photos of a model wearing the piece and stated the company name, company website, product name, size, and colour.

The product page states that the corset is nylon but the care tag states that it is 100% polyurethane. The polyurethane gives the corset the wet-look on the outside of it, almost like a raincoat. The inside of the corset does have a thin lining. The corset isn’t stretchy but the width can be adjusted with the lacing down the centre back of the piece. The corset is not sheer but the more you need to loosen the lacing, the more skin will show as there is no modest panel.

I’ve taken a few measurements of the corset laying flat. The lacing was down the centre back was done up the way it was when it arrived. There was an approximate 1 ½ inch gap between the lacing. If you need additional measurements, please let me know and I will get them for you.

Chest (armpit to armpit): 16 inches
Cup length: 5 inches
Cup width: 8 ½ inches
Length of corset (armpit to bottom): 11 ½ inches
Length of corset (down centre back): 10 ¼ inches
Halter strap length: 11 inches each

The corset has 2 closures to it. There are silver coloured metal ball and clasps down the centre front of the piece. There are 4 in total that begin beneath the lacing at the chest area. Each clasp is approximately 1 ½ inches away from the next one down.

The second closure to the corset is the lacing down the centre back, with 10 eyelets on each side. The lacing is done with a black ribbon. The ribbon is ½ an inch wide. If you found the ribbon was not long enough to provide the width you need, you could always replace it with a longer piece of ribbon or similar item.

Both balls and clasps are attached to a long, thin metal piece (which you don’t see because it’s inside of the corset). So you’ve got the two metal pieces that run down the centre front of the corset and 10 plastic boning pieces. 4 of the plastic boning pieces are at the front of the corset, 4 at the back, and 1 down each side. There are 2 boning pieces that sit side by side that start right beneath the centre of each cup. The boning at the back consists of 2 pieces that run side by side on each side of the laced area.

The corset has halter style straps that have snap closures to them. The halter straps are not detachable but they can be slightly adjusted with the snap closures. There are 2 rows of snaps with 2 snaps in each row. These rows are just less than 1 inch apart from each other. The snaps are fairly large (1/2 an inch in diameter) and secure really tightly. I tugged on the snaps when they were closed and the snaps did not come undone. You shouldn’t have any issue with the snaps when wearing the piece.

The cups to the corset are padded but they do not have underwire in them. There is lacing at the centre of the cups. There are 3 eyelets on each side and it’s laced with black ribbon. My C cups fit fine in the corset, though there was some tightness. I wouldn’t suggest the large for anyone over a C cup.

Putting the corset on was easy enough to do by myself. I just loosened the back of the lacing as much as I could and then did the front of the corset up on my body. I knew I had to loosen the lacing as much as I could because as mentioned earlier, I usually wear a size XL. It’s easier when you have a partner or friend around to tie the lacing at the back but you can do it alone if you have no one around.
Experience
...continued

The length of the corset was really too short for my preferences. I’m 5’6 and the front of the corset ends right at the bottom of my belly button. I purchased the corset to wear out in public so I need the length to cover my chunky hips and belly. This corset just doesn’t do that. When I took photos of me wearing the corset, I pulled my pants up much higher than I would regularly wear them because I didn’t want the fat to be poking out everywhere—and it does.

In the above photo of the back of the corset, you can see that I’ve maxed out the ribbon length to accommodate my width. I measured the area when I took the corset off and the gap between the lacing can be loosened to a total of 6 ½ inches in width.

I found the material to be comfortable, breathable, and would be able to wear it for long periods of time. The care tag states that the corset should be hand washed only and hung to dry. What’s nice about the polyurethane on the outside of the corset is that it is water resistant. If you were to get a bit of liquid on it, you could easily just wipe it off. If you're in between sizes, I suggest ordering the smaller size like I did.

Overall, I really like the style of the corset but the length just doesn’t work for me. I’ve deducted one star for the lack of length. If the corset were just a couple inches longer, I’d be thrilled and would probably wear it fairly often. I still really like the corset but I’m going to have to just wear it in the bedroom for now until I can figure out a way to wear the corset without having to pull my pants way up so my chubbiness isn’t poking out.
