High waist garter belts are a classic pinup girl style. Like high waist skirts and pants, they emphasize the smallness of a woman's waist and smooth out the belly area. This effect pleases many women and onlookers alike. Practically speaking, this garter is meant to hold up thigh high stockings via 4 garters that hang down from the belt. On this garment the garters are detachable. This is good because the belt can be cute on its own sans stockings. The downside is that because the garters are removable they tend to remove themselves with vigorous movement. Ahem. I am considering sewing my garters into place on the belt. Because when you're getting it on, sinking stockings and flailing straps are more of a pain that a pleasure in the tuchus.

That is my main qualm. Other than that I really like this piece. It's made of 80% Nylon / 20% Spandex. True, texture wise this is not the most luxurious of fabric, but having it made of satin or some such thing would bump it clear out of the 20-something dollar price point. One touch that makes it feel more classy is that it comes with a beautiful black padded hanger. It is a straight lingerie style hanger with two little pins that the hanging straps can be wound around if you like. Very nice touch.

Construction and Design

The garter is mostly black with a center front panel that has black lace over top of a creamy beige-coloured panel. There is ruffly trim on either side of the center panel as well as a line of lace that encircles the whole bottom of the garter. There are two sets of boning on either side that sit on the hips and give the piece a bit of structure. So it doesn't just look like you're wearing a nylon/spandex tube. The top band is elastic and the fabric itself is quite stretchy, making it easy to accommodate different sizes. The inside is not lined, but it is finished well. The fabric is actually smoother and shinier on the inside, making it feel good against the skin. At the back, the garter fastens with a line of hooks like those found at the back of a bra. There are two lines of hooks to aid with sizing, and each line has 14 hooks. So it takes a few moments to put this piece on, but there is no gaping between widely spaced clasps here. One issue is that because the fabric is so stretchy, it tends to warp a bit at the back where the closure is. This is not extreme but it does cheapen the piece slightly. I recommend taking a look at the sizing chart and choosing the size that most closely fits your own measurements to minimize this happening. I have 44" hips and a 36" waist, and bought the XL size which fits quite nicely.

There are also two large black bows that come attached to the bottom of the center panel. These are removable as they are attached using safety pins. The garters are also removable. They come in a separate ziplock bag. They attach into little loops at the bottom of the garter just like the straps for a strapless bra can be attached. The hooks at the top of the garters do not fasten into place with anything but the tension of the fabric so they do come undone with vigorous movement. The stocking attachment clasp is the regular kind and works fine.

Care and Maintenance

This garment is hand wash only and hang to dry. Lingerie can be washed with a mild detergent suitable for laundering baby clothes, with detergent specifically made for lingerie and delicates, or with shampoo. Warm or cold water can be used, though using cold water shocks the elastic back into its original position. Fill a sink with soap and water and soak the garment for about five minutes. Gently agitate then spot clean any trouble spots and rinse twice with clean water. Do not wring the garment, but squeeze without twisting or roll it up inside a towel and compress. Hang to dry. The garter does have two hanging straps so it can be hung on a hanger or folded up and stored in a drawer.

This piece is so sexy! I love it, my partner loves it. It added to a really hot night and was perfect except for the straps coming undone. That was a pain in the butt as I'd put quite a bit of effort into looking a certain way, just to have it peel off on its own accord. I particularly love the way that it frames my pussy with that fringe of lace. It's got a lovely appeal of keeping me half hidden and half exposed at the same time. Similarly at the back the bottom crescents of my butt peek out and are decorated by the lace. I love pinup girl styles, and the high waist garter belt is a classic look from that style set. I paired this with a lacy sheer slip and fine fishnet stockings. Muah!

My garter belt is still hanging in strong. I've washed it a few times by hand in cold water and it's still looking pretty. This is such a simple yet classy piece that I hope I'll have it for years to come.
