Sheer black robe lingerie set - peignoir discontinued by Escante - review by llellsee

Packaging-

The Sheer black robe lingerie set arrives in packaging very similar to other Escante sets I own, on a black plastic hanger protected by a white sheet of plastic similar to a plastic bag. The sheer robe and matching sheer thong rest securely on the wide hanger while the stockings are in clear plastic packaging and attached to the robe by plastic ties. Attached to the robe is a tag which shows the set being modelled, and also shows the equally beautiful chemise set from the range being modelled.

First Impression-

Pulling away the white plastic sheet of packaging which covers the set and viewing it on the hanger in person, I was pleased to see it looks as beautiful in person as I had hoped. The robe and stockings instantly made me think of vintage French lingerie, though the thong doesn’t fit in terribly well with the vintage look.





Robe-

The sheer robe in size small measures 27 Inches long when measured from the collar down. Being 5”4 Inches tall myself, the robe barely manages to covers my cheeks when worn open and when worn closed the end of the robe sits half way down my cheeks and flares out slightly giving the impression of a more hourglass figure. This set is definitely well suited to those who want their lingerie to help create the illusion of curves around the hips and of course those who don’t mind showing some cheek.

The sleeves of the robe are loose fit and finish with a stretchy scalloped lace trim. The dotted mesh material feels light, loose and comfortable and the lace trim sits loosely just above the elbows.

Running along the front of the robe is the same stretchy black lace trim, this runs all the way around the collar and down both sides of the robe to the point where the robe is tied closed, from that point down the robes front is plain dotted mesh material.

In person I was surprised to see that the point where the robe closes is not just tied together with its delicate pink satin ribbon but is also kept together by a plastic closure which slips into a loop of material, very similar to how you would attach detachable garter straps onto lingerie. I found this ironic when I realised that the beautiful black lace and pink ribbon garters that are part of the robe are actually not at all detachable. With so many garter panties on the market having detachable garter straps I had thought it safe to assume that with a lingerie item like a robe it would be a given that the garter straps could detach to give you more options on how to wear the piece.

Measuring from the point where the straps are attached to the end of the rubber clasps, each one of the garter straps (front and back) measure 14 Inches long unstretched, when fully stretched they measure up to 21 Inches long. The rubber clasps are quite malleable making them particularly easy and quick to attach to stockings and each clasp is covered by a pale pink satin ribbon. Before attaching the garters to stockings I do find it takes a while to untwist each of the straps as they do tend to naturally twist and curl when left hanging between wears.

Around the waist of the robe, the same material as the garters is used to keep the robe fitted at the waist. On the size small this stretchy black and pink band measures 23 Inches long when unstretched. I have a 24 Inch waist and still find it feels and looks nicely fitted in the waist.

-Thong

The thong that comes with this set measures just under 12 Inches across the waistband of the size small. The thin stretchy material works well as a waistband but is also used across the back string of the thong making it seem like just another one of those cheap g-strings that come included with lingerie as an afterthought, the front of the thong is made of the same polka-dotted mesh material and even has a trim to match the robes waistband: a thin pale pink satin ribbon running through a lace trim.

On each side of the front of the thong is a tiny pale pink satin bow which may be a nice touch for some, but with one of my pet peeves when it comes to lingerie being tiny satin bows attached to what seems like every piece of lingerie out there, I was happy to find that these bows are not attached to the ribbon which runs along the thongs trim, and so they can be removed.

The front of the thong looks well but the back is a simple elasticated string which isn’t really soft enough to be put where its intended for. The waistband is stretchy enough to cover a range of a few sizes and the front is bound to please anyone who loves the see-through look of mesh but I do really wish that a better quality pair of panties had been included instead of a little g-string which though it is made of the same material, still doesn’t fit in with style of the robe and stockings.

-Stockings

The stockings that are included with the robe arrive wrapped around a thin piece of white cardboard inside a clear plastic packet. They feel soft and light and when put over the hand prove to be quite sheer and in fitting with the style of the robe. The toes of the stockings are reinforced as are the top bands of the stockings which measure roughly 3 to 3 and a half Inches long when worn. Though they don’t appear as sheer in person as they do on the model on the product page, they are still sheer enough to show my leg tattoos in great detail underneath. I’m a 30 Inch length leg in jeans and find the tops of the stocking can stretch to sit 2 Inches from the very top of my inner thigh. Even when worn very high up on the thigh they do need garters to help keep them up.

I would recommend being careful with nails when putting them on as they do feel quite delicate, that being said mine are still in perfect condition after a handful of wears and the reinforced toes and tops prove to be strong.

If you are interested in this set the main thing I'd point out is that the garter straps are not detachable, I eventually decided to cut mine away for the sake of making this a much more wearable robe for me. I feel it’s a shame that such beautifully detailed garters should be attached when most people will want this robe to be a more flexible piece than that. The other thing I’d mention is that if you invest in this robe you may want to find a delicate pair of black lace panties to pull off the look and do the robe justice. The thongs that come with this set are okay but when worn with a set like this they can look cheap or out of place.

-Care/washing
As listed on the care instruction tags on the robe and thong, they can be washed on a warm gentle cycle. It is recommended that they are washed separately and that chlorine bleach is avoided. To dry, do not wring or twist, Line dry and only iron on a low temperature. The set is listed as 100 percent polyester on its handy easy to tear away care tags. The stockings (100 percent nylon) have no separate care instructions.
