Well, Hello There Belly Button.

The Satin Bustier by Coquette is absolutely beautiful. I adore the look. I purchased this bustier in hopes to wear it out in public under a nice shrug. Unfortunately, the more I stretch the material, the more sheer it becomes. If I can see my belly button through the material, I won't wear it in public. It definitely would make a lovely bedroom piece though!

extremely useful review
The Satin Bustier by Coquette is available in sizes S-1X/2X. I had ordered the size XL. I purchased this piece to wear in public, underneath a nice shrug or cardigan, although it is perfect for bedroom use as well.

The bustier arrived in a clear plastic bag. The only thing on the bag was a barcode and the size. Attached to the bustier, was a cardboard tag with a photo of a model wearing the bustier, size, and company website. Also attached to the bustier was a small zip lock style bag that held the 4 garter straps and 2 shoulder straps. The bag is not ideal for storage. I like hanging my pieces up in the closet to store them.

The bustier is 82% nylon and 18% spandex (exclusive of trim). The entire bustier has quite a bit of stretch to it. There is also an elastic band that runs horizontally on the inside of the bustier that gives it even more stretch. The elastic band inside of the bustier runs all the way around the bustier, and is 1 ½ inches thick. One important thing to note about the bustier material is that the more you stretch it, the more see through it becomes. You’ll be able to see this at the end of my review in the photos of me wearing the bustier.

I’ve taken measurements of the bustier laying flat, unstretched. The bustier was done up on the first row of eye closures (loosest fit) when the measurements were taken. If you need additional measurements, send me a message and I can get them for you.

Detachable, Adjustable Straps
Shoulder strap length: 9 ½- 17 ¾ inches
Shoulder strap width: just under ½ inch
Garter strap length: 7 ¾- 13 ¼ inches
Garter strap width: just under ½ inch

Bustier
Length of bustier (armpit to bottom ruffle): 15 inches
Width of bottom of bustier (above ruffle trim): 17 inches
Chest (armpit to armpit): 16 inches
Cup length; 5 inches
Cup width: 7 ½ inches

The bustier does up with hook and eye closures that run down the centre back of the bustier. There are 3 rows of eye closures, with 17 eyes in each row. There is a ½ inch space between each row. With the extreme stretchiness of the bustier, the bustier fit best on me on the tightest eye closure row.

There are 11 plastic boning pieces in the bustier; 5 on the front, 4 on the back, and 1 on each side. The bustier has 2 rows of lace running along the bottom of the bustier. The top row of lace is 1 inch, and the bottom row is 2 ½ inches. There is also a row of lace along the top of the bustier that is 1 inch.

There is a cute little bow between the cups at the top of the bustier. Unfortunately, the bow doesn’t sit properly. The lace underneath the bow pushes it upwards, so instead of sitting properly, it flips upside down. You could cut the lace so that the bow lays flat, or just cut the bow off. I have yet to do either. I’ve taken a picture of this so you can better understand what I’m trying to explain.

The bustier comes with 4 garter straps and 2 shoulder straps. All of the straps are adjustable, and detachable. The loops to attach the straps are all inside of the bustier, so if you choose not to wear them, it won’t look awkward. Since I like wearing corsets and bustiers outside of the bedroom, I tend not to wear the garter straps. I do like wearing the shoulder straps though so that my chest doesn’t weight the piece down.

The cups have padding in them so it’s not necessary to wear a bra with it. There is no underwire though. My chest fits well in the cups. I wear a C38 and it was most comfortable on the tightest fit (3rd eye closure row).

The material was comfortable against my skin and I did not find it to be bothersome. The lace trim that runs along the top of the corset is a bit stiff, and can cause irritation after a long time of wearing the bustier. The lace isn’t at the very top of the bustier; it is close to the top. Basically what this means is that it is more avoidable then if it were at the very top. It did rub against my upper arm a little bit while I was wearing it but it wasn’t intolerable; I’ve dealt with much scratchier lace. This should not deter you from purchasing the corset since it’s very minimal. I just figured it was worth mentioning.
Experience
...continued

The care tag states that the bustier should be hand washed only, and hung to dry.

As for my personal experience… I’m happy with the bustier, but could be happier. It’s such a beautiful looking bustier but the material becomes sheerer the more you stretch it. I was most comfortable with the bustier done up on the tightest row of eye closures, so it was stretched as much as I could. Since I had it stretched, you could see my belly button through the material. This to me is a big no-no, especially since I wanted to wear this out in public. I haven’t tried the bustier on a looser fit to avoid the sheerness, but I don’t want to sacrifice tightness just so the material is less sheer. Maybe I’m just stubborn, but for $59.99, I want it all.

The boning didn’t really do any shaping for me because they’re flexible plastic, but I still feel it looks nice on me (minus the fact you can see my belly and belly button through it). Below you can see me wearing the bustier. The first photo is a front view, second is a side view, and third is a back view. You can really see how sheer the material gets in the first photo. That black strap running along my belly is the elastic band I had mentioned earlier.

I’ve decided to give the bustier a 4 out of 5, simply because it really is a beautiful piece and even though it is sheer, most people won’t be purchasing it to wear out of the house like I had planned to. The reason it loses one star from me is because the bow sits upside down, the lace may irritate those with really sensitive skin on the insides of their arms, and also because of the sheerness. Those three things are fairly small things, so I put them all into one star loss.
