Eyelash lace bustier - bustier discontinued by Coquette - review by dhig

I should make it known that I am a male reviewing this after my girlfriend tried it on. I've combined her thoughts and mine to bring you the review.

Appearance and Design

The bustier came wrapped in plastic on a padded black hanger. The tag, garter straps and shoulder straps are affixed to the bustier via a safety pin. My girlfriend and I both think this is a nice feature since this is a pricier item. In my opinion, the bustier is closer to a forest green as opposed to the bright green on the stock photo. The floral lace is bordered by eyelash lace, which I found out is the little wisps of thread coming off the design. The eyelash lace is not attached to the bustier and can poke out at odd angles. Like other reviewers, the bustier I ordered came with a crooked lace pattern distribution across the front of the bustier. A little bit of the eyelash lace is caught in the stitching so it looks tangled and messy.

The bustier's skeleton is made up of six pieces of plastic boning. The front two pieces of boning start in the middle of the cups and taper down as they approach the hips. The remaining four go vertically down the back. There is underwire in the cups that feels identical to the boning. The cups are lightly padded and won't give any sort of push-up effect on their own. You have the option to wear shoulder straps with the bustier. You can also wear it with or without garter straps.

The black ribbon comes laced so that it ties between the 5th and 6th holes in the corset area. There are a grand total of 13 holes here. The area where it ties hits the waist on the bustier but could always be re-laced if your waist is higher or lower than this. The ribbon is silky and easy to tie and untie. We found that there was way too much of it when my girlfriend first tried on the bustier. The tied bow had ends that reached my girlfriend's ankles. She is short at 5'3" but it was still pretty ridiculous. The front of the bustier fastens together with 15 hooks and has two adjustment options. Using the larger option will give you another 1/2" or so to work with.

Size and Fit

I ordered the bustier in small. Coquette says that a small will fit these measurements: a size 4-6, a B cup, a 34-36 inch bust, a 26-28 inch waist and 36-38 inch hips. My girlfriend is a size 2. She wears a B cup, has a 32" bust, 25" waist and 36" hips. Everything fit her like a glove because the corset back allows for a lot of adjustment. She wears it on the tightest setting in the front and then ties it so that about half the modesty panel is showing. Someone a good few inches above the size chart could still fit into this, but it would be more of a squeeze. I think someone who is an extra small could also get a good fit from this. Like I said, there is enough ribbon in the back to loosen it up quite a lot.

Her Thoughts

My girlfriend says that the black fabric is very comfortable against her skin and that it does not irritate her at all. Though her breasts fit in the cups, she still notices a gap in the bottom of the cups. This causes the top to kind of fold over. She thinks that larger breasts may fill out the cups better but anything larger than a small C will result in breast overflow. Wearing the bustier with the included straps fixes the folding over problem and gives some extra support. After a while, she commented that the bustier was getting hot and took it off for fear of getting sweat stains on it. She liked that it covered her hips and upper back so that it didn't cut into her flesh and give her love handles.

Materials and Care

The bustier is made entirely of polyester and should only be hand washed and hung to dry. Any rougher care will probably result in damage to the lace. The inside of the bustier is lined with a soft black fabric that feels comfortable against the skin. The flowery lace is attached to the bustier while the eyelash part of the lace is not.

Final Thoughts

I thought this bustier looked very sexy on my girlfriend and really liked how luxurious it felt under my hands. My girlfriend liked that it flattened her tummy and shaped her waist. She did not feel sexy with the baggy cups, but this was fixed when she wore the shoulder straps. We did not like the issues with the lace since the bustier is pricey and would probably give it 3.5 stars if we could. However, since it is so nice and this may just be a defect with one run of the bustier, I think it deserves 4 stars.
