Use

I was ecstatic when Lyla arrived in the mail. I've always fantasized about myself in a vulnerable position in a public setting, while my boyfriend has control over how horny I get. This is the second time I bought a wireless remote control vibrator. The first one looked great on store shelves and cost me a small fortune. I used it once. It ate up the fresh batteries like the Cookie Monster eats cookies and stopped working the next day, even with new batteries. I am so happy that Lelo decided to make a fully functional, high quality remote control vibrator that can fulfill my fantasies.

Lyla comes in two parts. The egg can be used on the clitoris and nipples or to massage other erogenous zones on your body. It can also be inserted into the vagina and easily retrieved by pulling on the removal cord. The remote control also vibrates and can be a nice massager, especially for the person controlling the egg.

What I love most about Lyla is that the remote vibrates at the same speed as the egg at all times. It adds a whole new dimension to partnered play. Whoever controls the egg experiences the same vibration as the recipient. Imagine taking Lyla to a public setting with a partner. The egg is safely tucked away on (or in) you while your partner has the remote in his or her pants pocket. Every time you feel a change in vibration, your partner feels it too. Or reverse roles and turn the tables on your partner. Totally hot!

While the remote might be a bit loud for certain public situations (you probably don't want to bring it to the quiet section of the library), you can definitely get away with using it in a restaurant or bar.

Lyla is also great for solo play. You essentially get 2 vibrators with the purchase, so naturally it's great for masturbation. The vibration on the remote control isn't as concentrated compared to the egg, but it's still strong enough for me to orgasm.

Material / Texture

The shiny, gold part of both egg and remote is made of ABS plastic, while the rest is made of body-safe silicone. The removal cord on the Lyla is made of polymer. The unit is hypo-allergenic, odorless, non-porous, latex-free, and phthalates-free.

My Lyla is cerise, which goes really well with the gold. It looks even more elegant under water. The egg feels very nice on my skin and very smooth inside my vagina (the removal cord can be barely felt), while the remote control feels great against different parts of my body.

Since I’ve had eggs with cords made of materials that are difficult to clean, I had initial concerns about it before buying. However, I was relieved to find the loop to be made of polymer, which is non-porous and safe against bacteria.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Smooth

Design / Shape / Size

The oblong egg has a smooth bulge on one side and a more flattened contour on the opposite side. Vibration is most prominent on the tip of the bulge, aptly named “the pleasure point.” When fully inserted, the pleasure point directly hits my g-spot. If placed upon other parts of my body, the bulge complements my curves in those areas particularly well. The circular remote control gently contours around the buttons on one side and the golden plate tightly seals AAA batteries on the opposite side. I can rest my fingers, hands, or whichever body part I want, comfortably on the remote.

Travel-friendly and discreet, Lyla will conveniently accompany you and your partner anywhere. All necessary accessories and the product itself can be stored in the secure pouch provided. By pressing and holding the + and – buttons for more than 5 seconds, Lyla will be locked until you repeat the procedure or plug in the charger.

The insignia key, a black plastic piece that came in the box, can be inserted into the notch on the gold plate to open and close the battery compartment. As a female with small hands, the key made changing batteries a lot easier.

Functions / Performance / Controls

For a toy with so many functions, Lyla is surprisingly easy to operate. To link the two parts, turn on the remote by pressing + once, then press the signal button on the egg for 1 second. When the egg's white light starts blinking at 2 second intervals, that indicates it is functioning and receiving a signal from the remote. When the remote control is turned off, the egg will be on standby. It will turn itself off in an hour if it doesn't receive additional commands from the remote. You can also turn the egg off by pressing the signal button for 2 seconds. Each button gives way to a click when pressed firmly, so it’s easy to tell whether you have pressed a button.

For the remote control buttons, pressing the + button will increase the vibration. Pressing the middle button will cycle through the 8 stimulation modes. Pressing the – button will decrease the vibration intensity. Keep pressing the – button to turn the remote control off.

The middle button cycles through 8 patterns as follows:

1. SenseMotion 1: In this mode, the intensity of the egg and remote will depend on the angle you hold the remote. When the remote is flat, both parts emit a minimal vibration. As the remote is tilted toward vertical, vibration intensity increases accordingly. Thus, the most intense vibration occurs when the remote is fully vertical (90 degrees from horizontal).

2. SenseMotion 2: In this mode, the vibration in both parts gets stronger the faster you move the remote. The intensity depends on the rate of acceleration, not on any angles or specific velocity.
3. Steady and regular vibration.
4. Subtle Pulsing.
5. Fast Pulsing.
6. Long drawn-out pulsing.
7. Even longer drawn-out pulsing.
8. Random and very strong pulses (like a singing vibrator)!

Battery/Battery life: The remote control takes 2 AAA batteries, while the egg is rechargeable. You can charge the egg by twisting the gold cap off and inserting the charger. The insignia key twists off the gold plate that holds the 2 AAA batteries. According to the manual, the AAA batteries will last up to 10 hours. The egg will last up to 2 hours after fully charged. After 5 hours of personal experience, both parts are going strong and I only charged the egg once after 3 hours (although it did not weaken after 3 hours of use, so I do not know how long one charge actually lasts).

Concerning wireless transmission, the egg receives signal even when the remote is 2 rooms (up to 39 yards) away. There may be a 2-3 second delay when the egg and remote are more than a few feet away. There's no way to turn off the vibration on the remote control, which can be inconvenient if you are planning to use this in a quiet public setting.

As for the vibration intensity, the pleasure point is quite strong. However, the remote doesn't have a concentrated spot, hence it feels weaker. The vibration is a notch stronger than the Lelo Alia. Some reviewers claim that Alia is as strong as the Lelo Siri. I hope that gives an idea of how strong Lyla is.

Both parts are very quiet. According to manual, the noise level is around 50 db. For reference, a quiet library is 30 db, and normal human conversation is about 60-70 db. Again, from experience, if you are in an environment with conversations, people will not be able to hear the egg or the remote.

Lyla was very fun in the bathtub, and performs just as well as when dry.
    • Discreet sound
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Rechargeable

Care and Maintenance

To clean Lyla, simply use antibacterial soap and water or apply toy cleaner directly. Do not use scouring materials or silicone- or alcohol-based solutions, as those will damage the silicone on the toy. Do not boil the unit or put it in the dishwasher, which will damage the mechanical components.

Since it's made of silicone, water-based lubricants are the way to go to avoid degrading the material.

Lyla comes with a silk storage pouch that both the controller and the egg can fit in easily. Lelo surprised me this time with a new version of their silk pouch. Compared to the silk pouches from Ina and Alia, Lyla’s doesn't have the white lining that gets dragged out every time I try to take the toys out of them. The drawstring is no longer made of silk ribbons that would fray after repeated use.

The ABS plastic and the silicone on the egg close very tightly together. You should not have to worry about build up along the seam.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

Like all Lelo vibrators, Lyla comes in a thick cardboard black box with the company name on its cover. This discreet box is big enough to store a lot more than just 1 toy if the inner packaging is removed. The wireless remote, egg, and ABS plastic brooch are nestled inside black foam. There's a cardboard section that opens up to the left hand side of the box. Underneath you can find the instruction manual, warranty information, silk pouch, sample lube, insignia key, 2 AAA Energizer batteries, and charger. The new charger is smaller than the ones before, yet it is still backward compatible for all older Lelo toys.

The toy comes with a 1 year warranty against defects due to faulty workmanship or material. It does not cover cosmetic deterioration caused by wear and tear or damage caused by accident, misuse or neglect. However, Lelo requires you to pay for return shipping. I am used to warranty policies that send me a replacement item with a pre-paid box to return the defective item. I believe that if a company truly wants to guarantee their products for their intended longevity, they should pay for return shipping.

Lyla also comes with a 10 year guarantee, which I don't foresee myself using. The guarantee states that if your toy breaks at any point within 10 years after you purchase it, you can send it back to Lelo (again, you pay for shipping), and they will give you a 50% discount in their web shop on your next purchase. Their web shop is so expensive that even with 50% off, most toys are still more expensive than the price at which I normally find Lelo toys.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Very informative

Personal comments

Lyla has exceeded my expectations for a remote control vibrator. I enjoyed the quality-of-life improvements Lelo made regarding this product, i.e. the charger size and the silk pouch improvements. Although there are areas for improvement, I am rating the Lyla 5 stars.

Experience

Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. Lyla’s sleek, futuristic, and fun design is well-conceived and it carries through to the functionality and performance of the toy. The vibration is a lot stronger than I expected from such a small unit. There can be a 2-3 second delay between the egg and remote, though it wasn’t an issue for me. My boyfriend and I have already had hours of fun and he's very happy with the sensation from the remote. I also came a few times just from masturbating with this toy. Lyla is an engaging toy that demands exploration and creativity and can be enjoyed by everyone.
Follow-up commentary
After my review, I did more extensive testing on signal between the remote and egg. It got cut off a few times. Once, I was in the living room, the egg was between my legs, and boyfriend opened a fridge door. The fridge door cut off the signal.

The egg still vibrates when it was inserted into my vagina with my legs closed. However, we found out when the remote is behind me at a certain angle (when it's around the thickest part of my butt), the signal gets cut off. I think it's safe to conclude that the vibration gets blocked out with 9-10 inches of flesh in between.

We still adore Lyla. It provides us more creative ways to spice up our sex life.

  • Signal strength through clothing??
    • This seems to be another topic of concern and there are mixed reviews which don't instill much confidence with me. Can anyone who owns the Lyla comment on how it's remote activity would function through clothing barriers for a night out in public? Ie. sitting across from one another at a dinner table with the egg discreetly tucked inside one's underwear and leggings or through a shift dress? I've been considering ourchasing this as a toy to use with my girlfriend in public, as we both love LELO products and there are not many similar high-quality options on the market... but I am concerned about the compatibility between the remote and egg when used under clothing. People seem to have mixed feelings on the strength and range of the remote. Can anyone please offer feedback concerning this? Thanks!!
    • You can always try to message those who have reviewed this as well. They might be able to get to you faster that way, since forum threads tend to get buried.
    • Already one step ahead of you Sam (aka Julia)! Hi again! I have messaged you already! Would love to help you out with this question and any others you have about this toy. You can also check out my review.

  • Can anyone tell me if the remote vibe can be turned off?
    • I've been getting mixed information from various reviews that I find confusing. I am interested in the Lyla exclusively as a toy for discreet public use, but the vibrations of the wireless remote control would seem counterproductive to that purpose. In fact, it would seem quite inconvenient for a number of different reasons and I can't quite understand what purpose it serves at all and why LELO decided this would a useful function? Anyways, back to my question -- Can the remote be programed to NOT vibrate along with the egg?? Is there any sufficient way of turning this function off and just using the remote without it's vibrations? Thanks for any help you can offer!
    • I'm thinking that it isn't possible to stop the vibrations in the remote, but if you're genuinely curious you're free to send a message to any of the contributors who reviewed the product to find out. Not everyone visits the forum frequently and threads can be buried pretty quickly, so that's probably the best way to get your answer, save for emailing the manufacturer. You can find their information on the Eden Link page.

  • Sync question
    • Stev
Can you sync it before going out, and turn it on later in the evening for some exciting times out on the town?
    • After reading the review, it looks like you can.
    • Hi Stev, the egg stays on stand by for 1 hour after the remote is turned off. So yes, you can sync it before going out. As long as you reactivate the remote within an hour of turning it off, you are good to go:)

  • Average Battery Life in the remote vibes
    • Looking at the pictures, it seems that the insertable portion of the toy contains the battery, and the remote is the rechargeable part.

So my question is, is how long will the toy last with the batteries? For me, this has a lot to do with if I get the toy or not.
    • I think it has a lot to do with whether you take the batteries out after use. I'm not sure if it effects it much (since the Lyla is not always transmitting), but we've used it a couple times, and our batteries are still alive. I don't have an accurate estimation for you though.
    • Hi there, the remote contains the 2 AAA batteries, and the egg is actually the rechargeable part. So far the 2 AAA batteries in my remote has lasted me about 6 hours. The manual say it can go up to 10. I only have about 6 hours of use on it so far.

  • Insignia Lyla – Egg Noise level and Power?
    • Does anyone know the "Vroom" on this? I don't see a measurement. Also the noise level? Is it worth the price? I really love the rose color but its soooo expensive and I don't want to purchases it if its weak.

The Lelo Insignia SenseMotion toys are basically brand new. They've only been available for about a month so not too many people have them yet.

This is the first review I've seen of the whole series:

Hope that helps. Otherwise you're just gonna have to sit tight as other people try it or go ahead and take the plunge! Best of luck.
    • I have the related Tiani and it's pretty weak. I'm quite disappointed in terms of strength. It's not overly loud but I do think, if you want strength, you'll be upset if you spend that money.
