Use

Liv is definitely my favorite toy right now. I know, I know, she's small and ever so simple, but that's why she's so great! She's small, discreet, and simply lovely to look at, and her size, shape, and power make her perfect for external use around the body such as around the breasts or neck, use on the clitoris, and internal vaginal use. Her vibrations aren't the strongest out there, but they're more than enough for me. Her size and appealing design make her great as a first toy to own or to introduce to a partner. Truly the only things I can't recommend her for is anal insertion because her design lacks a butt-play friendly base, and shower/bath play because she is not waterproof.

Material / Texture

The materials used on the Lelo Liv are second to none and are right up there with all of Lelo's other toys. The silicone used on the insertable portion of the toy is medical grade and buttery smooth. I could smell the silicone slightly after just opening the toy when it was directly under my nose for intentional sniffing. After a day the smell was entirely gone. I have personally never needed to use lube with this product because of how sleek the silicone is, though some people may need to.

The handle is made out of medical grade ABS plastic which is hard and smooth. The handle portion of the toy does have a seem along the sides of the toy, but the insertable silicone end of the toy is absolutely seemless.

The toy is generally rigid, and although the materials are sleek in texture, they offer no give and can provide a good deal of direct pressure when pushed against the body.

As mentioned, all the materials on this toy are medical grade and are therefore extremely body-safe and easy to care for. The silicone end should simply be washed with warm water and some soap after use, or wiped down with a gentle toy cleaner. If you wash it, just take care not to get water into the charger or buttons, as the toy is not waterproof.

Design / Shape / Size

I know some people disagree with me here, but I think the design of liv is PERFECT.

Size: She is small, with only a couple of inches of insertable silicone and not a lot of thickness. Although that won't impress people looking to get stuffed by their vibes, it's the perfect size for anyone looking for something more comparable to perhaps one-two male fingers. Just a bit of something something to get your rocks off.

Shape: She has a medium curve to her that will qualify her, for some, as a g spot vibrator. Not everyone may be able to reach or stimulate their gspot with such a simple and rounded toy, but some certainly can. Gspot or not, the curve is comfortable and feels great inside. She is also slightly fuller around her tip than in the middle of the toy, which also adds to stimulation and gives a nice sense of fullness for those who are tighter and/or are just beginning insertion play. Her shape also makes her great for external play, as the curve fits nicely against many parts of the female body. Her entire shaft can be pressed against the length of the vulva area or her tip can be applied directly to a particular spot of interest, be it the clitoris, nape of the neck, or nipples. I believe her shape makes her great for anyone to use, as she is unintimidating for a beginner and so well crafted to be equally pleasurable for an advanced user looking for a sleep and simple vibe.

Liv is totally discreet and due to her locking function, described later, suitable for travel. Lelo packaging helps her discreetness and hidablity, as she comes luxuriously packaged in a sleek black box that can easily be tucked in a small drawer. She also comes with a small silk pouch for storage in smaller compartments without her box.
    • Discreet look/design
    • Ergonomic

Functions / Performance / Controls

The vibrations are located through the entire shaft, though for me they seem to be strongest in the middle of the insertable portion of the toy, though there really isn't a noticeable variation in vibration unless you're unscrupulously inspecting it for precisely that.

Liv has several speeds ranging from a soft flutter to a moderate strong vibration. She also has several vibration patterns, as follows:

1. Continuous vibration
2. Extended interval pulsation
3. Intermediate interval pulsation
4. Short interval pulsation
5. Wave pulsation

Frankly, I'm kind of a fan of all of the patterns. I've never been a pattern person before, but she's such a multi-use toy that I've found they come in handy over the course of her use depending on what you do, where you do it, and how you want to feel.

All of her settings are controlled via a single round button on the ABS plastic handle that functions similarly to an ipod except withut a drag/touch function. The speed + - buttons are located to the left and right side of the circle and the vibration patterns are at the top and bottom. I personally found them to be quite easy to use, though they do take some getting used to. The first couple times I played with the toy, I did get a little confused depending on how I was positioned and which direction the toy was pointing. However, after maybe the third time, it became totally natural like getting used to any gadget would require.

The Liv also has a lock feature, which makes her unable to turn on even if her + vibration button gets pushed during travel. To activate her lock mode, you simple press the center of the round button down for five seconds. The button is surrounded by a round light that glows when you press any of the buttons, and will cease to turn on when the lock mode is activated. To unlock liv, you simply repeat the process of pressing the center button.

Liv is very quiet by most standards. You can hear her while using her, but she is not at all loud enough to be heard beyond a closed door or thin apartment wall or anything like that.

As previously mentioned, she is NOT waterproof so PLEASE do not take her into the tub or shower or insert her entirety into your body.
    • Easy to use
    • Multiple settings
    • Rechargeable

Care and Maintenance

The Lelo Liv is extremely easy to care for as long as you play the slightest bit of attention. As mentioned, all she requires to keep her clean is to carefully wash the insertable end with a bit of soap and water. She should not be submerged, boiled, dish washed, or anything like that. Just a little bit of soap and water in the sink.

Because the insertable end is made out of silicone, it is best to avoid silicone-based lubricants while using the Liv. A tab of a water-based lube should do you when lube is deemed necessary.

Liv can be stored in either/both the silk pouch or sleek black box she came with. Both options are convenient, classy and discreet.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

GORGEOUS.

As anyone familiar with the LELO products will tell you, the packaging tends to be pretty darn near flawless. The experience of opening a new LELO pleasure object is like the sex toy version of opening up a brand new Macbook Pro. (For anyone unfamiliar, Mac's sing to you when you start them). Generally, her packaging is a class act all around. Her instruction manuel is simple and straight forward, just like she is. She comes with a nice booklet detailing information about her two warranties, and a third booklet with pictures and brief info on the rest of the LELO line.

Like I mentioned before, her packaging can double as discreet and safe storage for Liv and she even comes with a little silk pouch that she can be stored in if that's what the owner prefers.

All in all, Liv's packaging is part of what makes her LELO, and is part of what makes her price worth it. She's truly a class act and would be extremely suitable as a nice gift item.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

As you may have been able to gleen by now, I absolutely love this toy. I think she's basically perfect. I've enjoyed every moment of having her. I love using her when I'm alone, and what's more, my boyfriend loves using her on me. He was very skeptical about my fondness for her and sex toys in general, but her sleek and slender appearance helped quiet his fears that I was longing for him to pound me with a 12 inch solid black veiny dildo rather than with his own member. She can be used during foreplay to substitute and/or enhance finger play or oral sex, as well as general body massage. To both of our delights, her slim frame make it easy to use her during sex as well. Basically any position where there's enough room for a girl to rub her own clit while being penetrated would allow enough room for the Liv. We don't use it every time, but every now and then it is a flawlessly playful delight!
Follow-up commentary
I LOVE my Liv. She's a great toy all around. Small, discreet, strong, quiet, reliable, easy to clean, rechargeable.

That said, now that I'm in the market for a specifically waterproof vibe, I find myself fearing that some of the waterproof options may "replace" my preference for the Liv. And don't get me wrong, I really do love my Liv. Part of why I chose her was buyer's remorse over a rabbit style vibe that completely didn't work for my body (which I've reviewed). I was worried about having the same thing happen, so I went with what seemed like the best and safest option I could find--the Liv is just the right choice for that purpose. But when it comes down to precise specifics over what will work best for you, there are a lot of similar options, many of which may outshine the Liv.

Regardless of whether the Liv turns out to be your (or my) favorite toy of all time, she will always be a wonderful addition to any toy collection: a perfectly straight forward "can't go wrong" little toy.

Awesome first review, I am impressed. That kicks ass by the way that it has that locking feature. I can't stand accidental toy turn on.

How does this stand up against other g-spots that you've experienced?

I think the liv could work as a gspot vib for some people, particularly if their gpots are fairly shallow and don't require particularly firm or defined stimulation (such as from a highly angled or bulbous tip). I don't personally use it for gspot stimulation very often.

The liv, to me, is really more of a traditional shaped vibe with a very soft natural feeling curve. If you're unsure if that would work for your gspot and are specifically in the market for a gspot toy, I'd probably suggest looking elsewhere. The Gigi and Mona are two Lelos specifically geared toward gspot stim that get great reviews. The Gigi is basically the exact same as the Liv, only difference being the shape of the tip. Lelo also makes the ella, which is a great little gspot dildo shaped very similarly to the Gigi.

I also think being waterproof is an asset in a gspot toy, especially for squirters, as there's no telling exactly how wet it's going to get down there lol. Je Joue, Jimmyjane, Zinni and Fun Factory all offer waterproof/more water-resistent gspot toys that are well reviewed and more or less within the same price range.

  • Toy Colors
    • Looking at the new Lime Green color of LELO's Liv, I'm very close to buying it, just because it's such a kick ass color. Anybody else have a soft spot for nicely colored toys?

Gigi will be my next purchase, and I think the dusty rose actually looks really pretty, but now there's bright blue...lol, I'm torn.
    • Blue, green, and orange are my favorites. I prefer the "non-natural" coloring :-). Even if it's shaped like a real penis, it should be day-glo purple or somesuch :-)
    • I'm that way too. I like non-natural colors for toys. That is a kick ass color, that green. The pink Gigi does look pretty, but I also like how bright the turquoise is too! My next big buy will probably be a Gigi too, it just sounds so amazing. :)

  • The Liv or the Gigi. Both by Lelo
    • I've been hearing a lot lately about the Gigi. I haven't paid much attention because I absolutely love my Liv. I flipped back and saw that they are the same price, same company and only slightly different design. Does anyone actually have both? The Liv has been my all time favorite vibrator for a long time.
    • I actually have the Liv (though I haven't written up a review yet), the Iris, and the Elise. Honestly, and I hate to say it, but the Liv is probably my least favorite of the bunch. It's still an excellent vibe, but it's missing the delicious texturing of the Iris and the g-spot magic of the Gigi. If you like Lelo's products, I'd say the Gigi is definitely worth checking out!

Er, Elise=Gigi. I really shouldn't attempt to type before my morning coffee. *blush*
