The neck will not stay at this angle on it's own, the angle will manipulate when pressed against the body. The instructions warn that any extension greater than 45 degrees can damage the toy. With experience further extension is damageable. One night, I did get a little carried away and extended the neck further than 45 degrees. In one of the groves of the neck ripped. I was able to fix this minor accident with super glue.
