Deli-ghtful

The Delilah is a good example of a toy that has a job and does it well; for clitoral stimulation it fulfilled all of my expectations and left me pleasantly surprised.

Use

This toy is definitely most appropriate, I feel, for its marketed use on the clitoris. It could certainly be used elsewhere, such as for light penetration or on the nipples, but its primary use seems clear. You can hold it on yourself for easily-controlled personal pleasure or hand it over to a partner for something more. It lends itself well to couples' play, giving your partner a little extra reach and making it easy to find the clit with its shaped head. You might also easily use it on yourself during sex, and the handle's length again means you don't have to reach down or back as far to make it work.

Material / Texture

The hard pink plastic making up the body of this toy is smooth, inflexible and without frills. No odor is present on the toy, nor does it seem to pick up odors that linger after washing. The smoothness makes it slippery when wet but not unpleasantly so; in fact it's just the opposite. It contains no phthalates, no latex, and is hypo-allergenic.

Design / Shape / Size

This toy reminds me of a rounded little garden hoe; the shaft is meant to be held in one hand - I find it easiest to hold it like a pencil but it can be positioned in a few different ways - and extended down to rest the head on the clitoris. The body is long but not too slender, and larger than I had expected it to be. At 2 1/2 inches around and 7 1/2 inches long (although with only 2 1/2 inches insertable length, given its nature as a clit stimulator), it's easy to hold without being either bulky or flimsy. The end piece, slightly curved on the underside, cups the clit perfectly and makes it nearly effortless to pin it down regardless of how stubborn it may be. Pale pink, hard plastic makes up the whole body and the end cap for the batteries, with the exception of a thin silver ring near the head of the toy. This ring doesn't indicate a place where the toy can be unscrewed, but seems to me to mark off the point where the creators thought optional penetration should stop.

Although it's not an obvious penis shape, I think that most people would know what the Delilah was the second they saw it. It's not showy but not really discreet, either, and with its size and shape I think passing it off as a "massager" would not be believable. However, it is slender, and could probably be hidden easily. It would easily fit in a purse or small bag if you wished to take it with you somewhere.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Delilah surprised me by being more versatile than I had expected. The vibration power is controlled by a dial on the end that you can slide to any point between full blast and lowest possible. This means instead of just a couple preset speeds, you can have more exact control over what you're getting. I definitely applaud them for choosing that method rather than a couple of buttons.

The motor seems to be in the head, not the body, which focuses the vibrations solely on your clit rather than waiting for them to travel down the shaft of the toy. They are powerful enough to be quite satisfying at the lowest setting, and on the highest can accurately be described as "paralysing". I was impressed by the speeds of this toy and it has swiftly become my toy of choice for clitoral stimulation.

With power, however, comes sound. This is not a terribly loud vibe but it's not silent, either. The lowest setting I would say can be heard through a blanket, while the highest might possibly be heard through a door if the room were quiet. This is changed when occasionally, the body rattles slightly, giving out a harsh, loud buzz. That is a much louder sound, and so although it doesn't happen constantly, it's enough to warrant a warning about the volume.

Care and Maintenance

The Delilah should be quite simple to take care of. It is waterproof and therefore doesn't require dismantling to clean it; just make sure the end is screwed on tightly. You can clean it off with soap and water if you so desire, or use any oil, water or silicone-based toy cleaner to get the job done. The smooth, hard plastic exterior is simple to clean and doesn't have any ridges or indentations until further down; unless you decide to use this for light penetration you won't find any places for fluids to hide in the body of the toy.

Packaging

The box it came in was purple with a lift-up panel for details. Though it lacks pictures of the toy, the box states clearly what's inside, so I wouldn't call it discreet. All the same, it's not the most gaudy thing I've ever seen, and seems to be trying to present a semi-professional feel with this vibe. The inner flap of the box details what type of batteries the Delilah takes (two AAAs, not included), which lubes it can be used with (water, oil or silicone based) and instructions on how to clean it with toy cleaner and water. A straightforward and helpful piece of packaging that shouldn't leave you wondering what you can do with your new toy.

Within this box is the toy itself and a pouch you might use to store your vibe. It's made of a rough, cheap see-through material often used in such decorative bags, in a light purple colour. It closes with a drawstring, and although some may think it cute, in terms of storage I feel it's not very useful since it doesn't even hide the toy from sight. Also, since the toy is hard plastic, it shouldn't have trouble coming into contact with other toys and doesn't exactly need to be separated from the group.

Personal comments

I typically have trouble keeping any toy on my clitoris for the amount of time that I really want to; it slips away and the momentum is lost. However, with the Delilah I didn't find this to be an issue much. It got away now and again, but overall the head piece firmly held my clit at its mercy.

This seems like it wourl do the trick for using during sex...it gets awkward if I have to hold a vibe with my hand between our bodies while he's thrusting. Great suggestion for use.
