Doesn't Quite Hit the Spot

Layaspot is good, but not great. It works well to stimulate my clitoris during partner sex, but I was disappointed that it doesn't do what it is designed to do- hug the curve of my pubic bone.
Published: December 9, 2010
Pros:
Works well with a partner, water-resistant.
Cons:
Doesn't fit my body perfectly, takes AAA batteries.

Use

Layaspot is designed to stimulate the clitoris and vulva. It can be used alone or with other toys, but I think it's best use is during sex with a partner since it is small enough to not get in the way. The curved design means it also fits better onto men's bodies than most vibrators do. Layaspot was one of my first toys and I think it is great for beginners. Layaspot is water-resistant but not waterproof; you can use it in the shower but shouldn't submerge it.

Material / Texture

The black areas are elastomed and the silver areas are plastic so it is body safe, non-porous, and phthalates-free. The toy is hard and smooth. The elastomed areas have a bit of a rubbery feel to them, but are not squishy at all.

Design / Shape / Size

Layaspot is designed to fit over the pubic bone, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my body perfectly. When I place the toy against my pubic bone the area that is meant to be in contact with my clit arches away from my body. I would need it to be more rounded and have less of a sharp angle to properly fit me. I can shift the toy up a little so that the lower part of the toy makes contact with my clit, but when I use it that way the top part digs into my mons a bit. I wish that Laya had some flexibility so that I could fit it to my body, but then I might not be able to get the pressure I need.

When my Layaspot arrived, I was a bit surprised by the size; it was smaller than I had expected. The small size makes it fit easily between labia, into the palm of the hand, and between partners. It also makes this and easy toy to store, hide, or travel with, especially since you can lock the controls.

The design is attractive and a bit futuristic looking and doesn't scream sex toy. This vibrator comes in lots of interesting colour combinations but I wasn't very adventurous and went with simple black and silver.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This toy works best for me during sex with a partner since I am more aroused and have extra stimulation which makes it easier for me to orgasm. Layaspot is not something I grab for a quick masturbation session.

The vibrations are located in the wide end of the toy but carry throughout. They are medium in pitch and fairly strong. Layaspot is a little noisier than I would like. It isn't loud enough to bother me when I'm alone, but I would prefer something quieter to use with a partner.

The controls are fairly simple to use. There are 2 buttons, marked with + and - signs. There is a red light behind them which makes it easy to operate in the dark. Holding the + turns the toy onto its lowest vibration setting, and pressing or holding it will take you through the 8 speeds of straight vibrations. Once you reach the highest level, holding the button will take you through the 3 functions: slow escalating, fast escalating and pulsing. You can scroll through the functions by pressing the + button and pressing the - will take you back to steady vibrations. To turn the toy off you must go to the lowest vibration setting then press and hold the - button. To lock or unlock the controls, press and hold both buttons.

Layaspot runs on two AAA batteries, which I find a bit inconvenient since almost all of my toys take AA's.

The product page says that this toy is waterproof, but when I submerged it for a few minutes water leaked into the battery compartment. I had no problems with washing it under running water, so it should be fine for shower use.

Care and Maintenance

Layaspot is easy to clean; just wash it with soap and water or use a toy cleaner. It is non-porous but can't be fully disinfected. Any lubricant can be used with this toy.

Packaging

Layaspot comes in an attractive cardboard box that can be used for gift giving, but wouldn't work well for long term storage. I wouldn't call it discreet since you can see the toy through a plastic window, but it is classy. Instructions and a sample of lube are included.
Follow-up commentary
I seem to have ruined my Layspot when I was testing whether it was waterproof or not. I left it to dry out for a few days, but when I put the batteries in again it turned onto high automatically. The buttons don't work to control it and the only way to turn it on and off is by taking the batteries in and out. It's still usable, and I always used the highest setting anyways, but I doubt I will be using it anymore since it wasn't one of my favourites to begin with and is now a hassle to operate.

not sure but we have the Laya and the better than chocolate ( the music ed) both have their good points, but the laya is a little smaller and compact. Both were really well tho and the music seting is fun feature!

So my partner and i decided to check out this site and order a bunch of new items. I just ordered the LAYAspot and it should be here friday! Ehh i cant wait! How does everyone feel about this cute toy?
    • reading the MANY many reviews on the toy will give you a good idea about the overall feelings and consensus of the toys.
    • it's nice that there are so many user submitted reviews on this site. it's so hard to choose a toy, especially an expensive one, with only the manufacturer description.

  • LayaSpot Questions
    • So, I just posted a review of this toy on my blog and and am rereading some reviews here. I am seeing some discrepencies and have a few questions for you.

Some reviewers state that this is a waterproof toy but my instructions clearly state that it is only splashproof. Perhaps the instructions have changed? Maybe Fun Factory decided it wasn't really waterproof? If you have this toy, what did your instructions say?

Furthermore, a few people said that they received silicone based BodyFluid with their LayaSpot but I received their water based lube and, again, my instructions said not to use silicone based lube (I believe, can't find them).

Also, I think it's just me but my Layaspot pretty much smelled god awful when I got it. Anyone else?

Just looking for different experiences with these things..

I've heard that fun factory toys can stink to high heaven, and I have no idea why they would because they're supposed to be 100% silicone. I have other silicone toys and they don't smell at all. Maybe it's not the toy itself but the packaging that surrounds it? Sorry I'm not much help, but the smell that people talk about with FF toys is enough for me to be wary of buying one.

I have since pitched my instructions, but I think mine said splashproof rather than waterproof. I got the Toyfluid (water-based) lube, and mine was smell-free! All of my FF toys have been totally odorless, actually.
