Lucid dream no. 54 by Doc Johnson

I’ve never tried any of the toys in Doc Johnson’s Lucid Dream line, but I was pleasantly surprised when my new product review package arrived bearing this beauty. I had a nice little tingle of anticipation while checking it out. It has a striking translucent aquamarine color, and once I got it out of the plastic, I was thrilled to find that it’s totally flexible. This baby bends all over the place. The slender end tapers up to a nice, thick, 4 3/4 inch diameter end, and both ends have pretty good sized nubs for extra stimulation. The whole shaft is already slightly curved, but like I said, it’s awesomely flexible. Also, it’s waterproof.

The website says in one spot that it’s made of silicone, and in another place it says Jelly, but I had to check out the packaging thoroughly to find out it’s really made of PVC jelly. I’m not overly fond of the PVC toys, for several reasons: they cannot be sterilized or sanitized like silicone and are therefore not really suitable for sharing (unless you use a condom). Also, PVC has a peculiar smell that takes some getting used to. It goes away after lots of use, however.

I waited until I had some alone time to try it out. It takes two batteries; I loaded it up with rechargeables and tried out all four speeds. Speed 1 was a tease...enough to get me started, but I just had to jack it up some more. Two, three, four...that bullet definitely has some kick. And, just like the package says, it’s whisper-quiet. Plenty of vibrators promise quiet operation, but this one delivers perfectly. Even at the highest speed, I couldn’t hear it under the covers at arm’s length away.

Alas, all that good stuff and it still didn’t really push my buttons. The bullet was great and powerful, the vibration was super-quiet, the flexibility was impressive...but something just didn’t work. It ran the batteries out in less than fifteen minutes, and the cord seemed to be kinked at one end and kept causing the vibes to quit. The slender end was just too small. In the end, I used one of my other toys to get off.

For all the good features, I think Lucid Dream 54 has potential. Maybe I’ll just have to play with it some more!
