Groovie look and feel until it died unexpectedly

The Groovies Wave looks fun, and she may work for some, but she broke quickly. And she didn't have the power to get me anywhere close to orgasm, especially since the second I tried it inside me it died. One star for being pretty, and one star because it was affordable.

Use

The Groovies Wave is a fun, cute little vibrator that is intended for clitoral stimulation, or vaginal insertion. The toy is perfect for solo masturbation, or as warm up for intercourse. I also thought it would be a great little vibe to stimulate you or your partners (male or female) sensitive parts during sex. It's not strong enough for a thorough body massage, but would feel pleasurable on the clit, nipples, perineum, shaft, labia, lower back, or anywhere else that enjoys the tickle of a lighter vibe. However, there is no flared base. Which makes this toy unsuitable for anal penetration. Since Groovies is waterproof, you can take it in the tub or shower for extended play. It is lightweight and easy to maneuver, which would also make it easy for someone with small hands, or wrist problems to maneuver.

This product would be ideal for someone new to vibrators for its unintimidating shape, velvety texture, smaller girth, and pretty appearance. This toy would also be good for someone whose partner is unsure of, or displeased by, larger stronger vibrators.

Material / Texture

The Groovies Wave is made of phthalate free ABS plastic. It has a velvety PU coating that protects it from the absorption of smells or moisture, and that feels lovely and smooth against skin. There is no drag, but if you wanted to add lubricant (water or silicone) you could do so to make the glide even more apparent. There is a slight plastic smell to the toy only when your nose is RIGHT on it, but it is not otherwise noticeable. There is no taste or texture to the toy. The only sensation comes from the vibrations, or your own thrusting with it.

Design / Shape / Size

The Groovies Wave says it all in the name. It has a wave design with three enlarged areas on the shaft, and two dips for the "wave". To me, it looks like a small microphone that you grip around the middle, and sing into the head. It also has a crystal design around the base. The vibrator operates on a push button system that cycles through the 8 vibrating functions. The button is locating on the bottom of the crystal base, and is easy to operate. Push it once to turn it on. The drawback, as others have mentioned, is that you must cycle through all the functions to turn it off. So there is no dedicated on/off if you need to power down in a hurry.

The bottom inch of the vibrator, the piece with the crystals, screws off to expose the hole in the shaft that holds the batteries in place. There is a small slip of paper inside the battery compartment that tells you how to put them in correctly. Concealed beneath the crystals of the twist off bottom, is a clear O ring that keeps the unit waterproof. So don't take it off! Once the batteries are in securely, screw the cap back on tightly, and you are good for play time.

The unit is 5 1/2 inches long with 4 1/2 inches of that being insertable. The unit is an inch in diameter, making it great for beginners, and possibly too small for advanced users who are used to more girth. The unit comes in pink or purple, and both have a row of white or red and blue colored crystals set into the base. The crystals were actually a brilliant idea because they keep the toy from rolling around on flat surfaces. But the crystals, and the bright colors, and the shape make it pretty obvious what this thing is. So if you want discreet, keep it in the drawer. And if you want to travel, take the batteries out before you pack it.

Functions / Performance / Controls

As mentioned, the unit has 8 vibrating functions that you can cycle through by using the black push button on the bottom of the crystal base. The functions cycle through low, medium, high, long pulse, short quick pulse, intense buzz (that feels like the high function to me), roller coaster (vibrating up and down from low to high and back), and lastly a mixed pattern, which cycles through them all.

The vibrations are concentrated in the tip of the unit, and are what you would expect from 2 AAA batteries (not included). They are high and buzzy like a bullet, in my opinion. The unit is nice and quiet though. You could easily use it with someone in the next room and go undiscovered. The button was easy to use, and was easily manipulated with one hand.

As for the functions, they all felt good in my hand. The function I liked least was low, the first setting it turns on to. As a power queen, I knew that setting was not going to get me anywhere near turned on. But I can't tell you which setting I liked best, because after I cranked it to medium and put it in my vagina, the thing buzzed twice and died, never to function again.

I think it's waterproof. I washed it with soap and water as per the directions before I attempted to use it, but it died soon after. So I can't say it wasn't from its brief wash.

Care and Maintenance

This toy is compatible with any kind of lube. The directions say to wash it with soap and water. I did that, and then it died. So I have no idea about long term care for Groovies Wave. The directions also say to remove the batteries after usage. That is a good idea for any toy, in general, to prevent corrosion. The Groovies doesn't come with any kind of storage pouch, but you could easily leave it in its original packaging. I was looking forward to trying this with some other vibes, but it died before I got the chance.
    • High maintenance

Packaging

The vibrator comes in a plastic clam shell case with a blue piece of cardboard describing the functions, features, use, and care on the back. The instructions were useful, but it would have been nice to have some other storage bag.
    • Good for storage
    • Minimal

Personal comments

I would not recommend this product. It didn't even stand up to its stated use for one play session, much less 6 months or more. While $20 is not a lot to spend for a product, you still want it to work, and to not feel like you are throwing money away. I read another review on here where the same thing happened to someone else. I tried new batteries, I tried giving it a day to come back on line, I even shook it a little. All to no avail. The Groovies Wave, like the 70's themselves, are dead.
Follow-up commentary
With a few days rest, a fresh set of batteries, and crossed fingers, Groovies Wave did turn back on...Only to sputter and die again in less than a minute with no pressure or contact. I got a dud, but others say theirs are working wonderfully. So if you think this is the toy for you, please give it a try.

Thanks Venus! The 70s was all I could think of every time I wrote Groovie! It's a shame because it really is so pretty.

    • what is the best vibrator??
    • Depends on what kind you are looking for (clitoral, g-spot, combination). I would suggest figuring out what kind you want. You can filter the product listings by that type and then sort by rating. Check out the reviews. If you can narrow it down to a few that you like, you can post a comparative discussion to the forum to get some additional feedback.
    • That's a really vague question. If you're just getting started, I would recommend any toy made up of a body-friendly material (such as silicone) and familiarize yourself with what toys are made of and the pros and cons of each type of material. The more hygienic materials tend to cost more, but they are worth it in the end because they will last longer and are more body-friendly.

What do you like in the way of toys? If you're not sure, the "vibrators" section of EdenFantasys will allow you to choose from and narrow your selection down to dual-action vibes, clitoral stimulators, anal vibrators, double penetration vibes, and a lot more. If you want the site to show you only toys made of a certain material or of a certain length, you can do that, too.

The concept of a "best vibrator" is highly subjective. What works for me may not (and likely won't) work for you. Read reviews before you buy, and hopefully you'll find the best vibe for you.

  • Groovie Waves not working?
    • Are other people having problems with the Groovie Waves spontaneously quitting? I received it and attempted to use it as directed but I barely got it inserted before it sputtered twice and died. I've been doing my kegels but I don't think I'm THAT good yet ;) Just curious if others are having problems.
    • Mine worked fine.. hasn't given me any trouble and I've had it a couple of weeks. (knock on wood!) hehe!
    • Mine seems to be doing just dandy still :D
