High Flying Adored

Fun Factory has hit a winner with this little travel-friendly vibrator. The unintimidating, cute design is great for beginners, while the vibrations are strong enough to keep the more advanced interested. It also makes a good travel vibrator because of its small size and quiet motor. Constructed of all body-safe materials, it's a great way to introduce someone to toys without having to worry about the safety of a porous material.

Use

The Fly Micro is a great little beginner or travel vibrator. It's not the most powerful toy in my collection, but with a little patience it's got enough power to be fun for most users. (Clit-o-steel division, be warned: it's not a Hitachi) The bullet is very strong for something that runs on watch batteries, and it's the least buzzy of any wireless bullet I've tried. The silicone sleeve is soft, easy to clean, and fun; it may not be large enough for full-on penetration, but it's a great size and shape for teasing and serious fun inside and out.

Material / Texture

The bullet is a basic smooth plastic bullet with a soft power button. The sleeve is a matte silicone with a pretty raised design. At first glance, and second, I thought they were butterflies, but closer inspection revealed them to be flowers. Either way, it's a nice looking, feminine design that adds a little texture to the otherwise smooth surface. The matte silicone has some drag to it, but a little lube is all it needs to glide. Neither part of the toy had an odor or texture.

Design / Shape / Size

The bullet in the Fly Micro is the standard wireless bullet. It runs on watch batteries, has a soft push-button on the short end, and has a little o-ring at the cap to make it splashproof.

The sleeve is a gently swelling curve. It starts out wide around the bullet, narrows slightly, then curves back out in a bulbous tip of solid silicone. The shape is good for teasing, nearly pinpoint external stimulation, and shallow penetration. It won't satisfy those looking for full-on penetration, but if you're looking for just a little internal teasing to go with your clitoral stimulation, then it's enough. The raised design on the front and back of the tip adds a little texture that is enough to be fun externally, without being so intense that it prevents comfortable internal play.

The petite size of the Fly Micro makes it ideal for both beginners looking for an unintimidating toy, and for anyone looking for a discrete travel vibrator. It's small enough that it's easy to take with you, in a purse, clutch, or even a larger pocket. It's also very easy to hide, if the need arises. It doesn't scream sex toy, so if someone sees it in your purse they won't immediately know what it is. If you plan to travel with this toy, keeping the batteries in a little plastic baggie would be a good idea - if the bullet's button hits something else in your bag too hard, you'll suddenly have to explain a vibrating purse.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The bullet has three vibration speeds, which are controlled by the push-button: off, mild, moderate, high, and off again. As usual with button cell bullets, there's no dedicated off button, so you'll have to cycle through to turn it off. The button is easy to trigger, but isn't going to change the setting every time your finger brushes past it, which is nice.

The vibrations felt slightly different when the bullet was in or out of the silicone sleeve. When in the sleeve, the vibrations were centered in the tip of the end bulge. The intensities were pretty much the same, since this density of silicone transmits vibrations well, but the sleeve diffuses them across a wider area. The lowest level of vibration is in fact very mild, at or below 1/5 on the power scale, and even the most sensitive users will find it barely more than a warm-up tease. The medium level is definitely higher, about a 2/5 on the scale. The highest level is between 3/5 and 4/5. Both the medium and high are deceptively diffuse and deep vibrations. They seem weaker than they are, so while I was expecting to have to reach for something else to get me off, WHAM! The orgasm ambushed me, coming out of left field when I wasn't expecting it. For those looking for a deeper, less buzzy travel vibrator, this one delivers.

The bullet is very quiet; while the sleeve muffles the sound, even out of the sleeve the bullet never gets loud enough that a few blankets couldn't hide the buzz.

When using this toy, remember that it's marketed as a splashproof vibrator, not a waterproof one. The bullet can be taken in the shower, or washed under running water, but the o-ring may not withstand submersion. Don't take this one in the bathtub!

Care and Maintenance

Because of the materials it's made of, this toy is very easy to clean. Though textured, the flowers are not raised enough to cause difficulty in cleaning. Both the plastic bullet and the sleeve can be washed with soap and water or toy cleaners, or wiped down with bleach. The sleeve can also be removed from the bullet and boiled to sanitize. They should be stored in some kind of bag or wrapping to keep them out of contact with other toys to minimize the chance of two toys getting a little to intimate and fusing, deforming, or transferring colors. If used alone, the plastic bullet is compatible with any type of lube. Because the sleeve is silicone, it should not be used with silicone lubricants. These lubes can cause the surface of your toy to become permanently gummy and impossible to completely clean (or even use comfortably). If you really want to use your favorite silicone lube with this toy, do a spot test on an inconspicuous part of the toy.

Experience

I was really surprised by this toy. I've never been a fan of beginner vibrators, because they have a bad rap for being cheap, weak toys made of sketchy materials, that aren't good enough to convince advanced users to part with their hard-earned money. I knew that Fun Factory's take on a beginner toy would be an exception, but I figured it would still be a weak toy made of body-safe materials.

I was wrong. This is no Hitachi, but the vibrations were deep enough that this toy actually managed to get me off with relatively little effort. Take this with a grain of salt, however. If you need pure intensity, and the depth of the vibrations don't matter to you, or you need pressure to get off, this toy won't do it for you.
