Liv is Gigi and Mona's Boring Little Sister

I love my Gigi and Mona, so I wanted to give Liv a try, but I was a little disappointed. Liv is still a good toy, but doesn't work as well for me as the other 2 toys I mentioned. Liv's vibrations are slightly weaker, and the shape isn't as stimulating for me. Objectively, I'd probably give this 4 stars (I'm sure it would be great for some people) but for me, it is only a 3 star toy.

Use

Liv is designed as a g-spot vibrator, and could also be used for clitoral stimulation. Liv isn't anal safe, but if you're looking for an anal vibrator, check out Billy which is the same design with the addition of a flared base.

I think Liv is best as a thrusting toy for those who prefer a smaller size. It will only work as a g-spot toy for those with easily stimulated g-spots.

The main reason I got Liv was to see how well it would work for clitoral use during sex. I usually use my Gigi that way, and it's great for most positions, but doesn't work well for missionary. Liv fits between bodies much more easily, and could work very well this way for those who like moderate strength, but it doesn't have enough oomph for me as a clit toy.

Material / Texture

Liv's insertable portion is made from silicone, so it's hypo-allergenic, phthalate free, and non-porous. The silicone is a thin layer over the hard internal workings of the toy, so it isn't squishy or flexible at all, which is great for providing firm pressure. The silicone has a matte, silky, smooth finish with little drag.

The handle of the toy is made from ABS plastic.

Design / Shape / Size

Liv is on the smaller end of the size spectrum. The product page says it has 4 1/2" insertable length, but that's measuring along the outside of the curve. Measuring straight from the tip to the handle gives 4" of insertable length. The entire toy is just under 7" long, with a 2 3/4" long handle. The widest part of the shaft is 1 1/8" wide, or 3 3/4" circumference. The narrowest part is 3 1/4" around.

The smaller girth makes this toy easy to insert. It doesn't provide a full sensation for me, and I would prefer if it were slightly thicker. This definitely won't satisfy size queens. The length should be enough to reach the area of most women's g-spots, but won't be long enough for those who have especially deep g-spots. The slight curve in the shaft will only stimulate g-spots that are more easily accessible, and not tucked up where a sharp curve is required to reach. I have a shallow g-spot, so Liv can easily reach the right area, but because of the shape it doesn't get much stimulation. The tip slightly nudges my g-spot, but can't apply firm pressure to it. I wish Liv had a sharper curve, or more of a bulged tip.

The shape works well for me for clitoral stimulation, especially during sex. I prefer a broader surface against my clit, so using the side of the shaft is fine for me, but this won't work for those who like pinpointed stimulation. The curve of the shaft allows Liv's tip to hit my clit while the handle hugs my mons. The shape works much better for the missionary position than Gigi does, but I prefer Gigi's flattened tip when it comes to stimulation.

The handle is a little on the short side; it just fits into my palm, and I have small hands. It is comfortable for me to hold and thrust with. I could see the shiny plastic becoming slippery if a lot of lubrication was involved, but I haven't actually had issues with it slipping.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Liv has a control pad on the handle, made up of a circle with 4 small buttons located on each side. It's the same design as Gigi's controls, and I prefer the 4 separate buttons used on Siri or Mona, but the contols don't really bother me.

Because the handle is small, and the control pad is located in the center of it, it could be bumped accidentally. I haven't actually had issues with this, since the way I naturally grip the toy leaves my fingers just to the side of the controls. The buttons are easy to reach with my thumb during use.

The + button acts as the "on" button, and increases the speed. The - button decreases the power, or turns the toy off. The arrow buttons are used to scroll through the patterns. You can adjust the power level for each of the patterns. There seem to be 8 power levels (it's a bit hard to tell since there isn't a lot of variation between them) and there are 4 patterns (3 speed of pulsation, and a wave pattern.)

The controls can be locked for travel by holding all 4 buttons down for 5 seconds. To unlock, repeat the same process, or hook it up to the charger.

The vibrations are decently strong, but not what I consider powerful. They are a bit weaker than Gigi or Mona. Gigi is at the lower end of what works for me, so anything weaker just doesn't cut it. Liv's vibrations are medium in pitch, not rumbly or buzzy.

The vibrations nice and quiet, which is great because they definitely won't be heard outside the room, and don't distract from the mood like I find loud toys can do. I noticed that, unlike my other Lelo toys, Liv makes a high-pitched squealing sound on the lower settings. I don't use the lower settings, so it doesn't really bother me, but if I did want to use a lower level it would become annoying very quickly.

Liv is rechargeable. A silicone tab at the end of the handle covers the charging port, but isn't enough to make it waterproof. Liv takes 2 hours to charge. The light on the control panel will flah while it is charging, and turn off when it is fully charged. It should not be charged for more than 24 hours. The charge will last for up to 1.5 hours of use, but that's the maximum time, so it will be a bit less if you use it on the highest setting. A red light will flash when the battery is getting close to running out, so it won't just die unexpectedly.

Care and Maintenance

Liv can be cleaned with soap and water, or toy cleaner. Since it isn't waterproof, you'll need to take some care during washing. Since silicone is non-porous, it can be sterilized by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution.

Silicone lube can react with silicone toys, so it's probably best to stick to water-based. If you would really lke to use silicone lube, perform a patch test first.

Liv can be stored in the included pouch. It is safe to store silicone in contact with other silicone toys, or with other non-reactive materials, like plastic, glass, wood, or metal. Keep Liv away from other soft materials such as jelly to avoid melting.

Packaging

Lelo is known for their high quality packaging, which can be used for storage and is great for gifting.

There is an outer box made from thin, shiny cardboard. The top has the Lelo logo, the sides have some product information, and the back has a picture of the toy.

Inside this box is a sturdier box made from matte, black cardboard. The only marking is the Lelo logo, so it is quite discreet. Inside this, Gigi rests in a molded tray made from heavy plastic, with a clar plastic cover over top. When the tray is removed, you'll find the charging cord, a satin storage pouch, a warranty, quality guarantee, and instructions.

The instructions are the same as those included with Gigi, and they are helpful and informative. The warranty lasts 1 year, so if your toy breaks within that time, it will be replaced. The 10 year quality guarantee means that if your toy dies within 10 years, you will recieve 50% off another Lelo product.

  • Liv settings
    • I have the Liv and find all the interval settings to just be annoying! I use it strictly on the regular constant vibration setting. What's your favorite Liv setting?
    • Roller coaster is a really nice pattern

  • Toy Colors
    • Looking at the new Lime Green color of LELO's Liv, I'm very close to buying it, just because it's such a kick ass color. Anybody else have a soft spot for nicely colored toys?

Gigi will be my next purchase, and I think the dusty rose actually looks really pretty, but now there's bright blue...lol, I'm torn.
    • Blue, green, and orange are my favorites. I prefer the "non-natural" coloring :-). Even if it's shaped like a real penis, it should be day-glo purple or somesuch :-)
    • I'm that way too. I like non-natural colors for toys. That is a kick ass color, that green. The pink Gigi does look pretty, but I also like how bright the turquoise is too! My next big buy will probably be a Gigi too, it just sounds so amazing. :)

  • The Liv or the Gigi. Both by Lelo
    • I've been hearing a lot lately about the Gigi. I haven't paid much attention because I absolutely love my Liv. I flipped back and saw that they are the same price, same company and only slightly different design. Does anyone actually have both? The Liv has been my all time favorite vibrator for a long time.
    • I actually have the Liv (though I haven't written up a review yet), the Iris, and the Elise. Honestly, and I hate to say it, but the Liv is probably my least favorite of the bunch. It's still an excellent vibe, but it's missing the delicious texturing of the Iris and the g-spot magic of the Gigi. If you like Lelo's products, I'd say the Gigi is definitely worth checking out!

Er, Elise=Gigi. I really shouldn't attempt to type before my morning coffee. *blush*
