Lovely, Bumpy, Rumbly

Fun Factory's G4 collection is a triumph, and the Patchy Paul is no exception. With its intensely rumbly vibrations, pleasing texture, and high-quality materials, it is easily one of my favorite G-spot vibrators.

Use

The Fun Factory G4 Patchy Paul is a waterproof, rechargeable vibrator. It was designed to be inserted vaginally to hit the G-spot, although, like any vibrator, it can also be used clitorally. I wouldn't recommend using it anally because it doesn't have a flared base.

As with most of the toys from Fun Factory's G4 collection, the Patchy Paul is quite girthy and textured, so it's probably not a good choice for someone who's new to penetration.

Material / Texture

The colored part of the Patchy Paul is made of silicone. As with other Fun Factory toys, this particular formulation of silicone has a fair bit of drag, so I'd recommend using a good water-based lube with it to make it more comfortable.

The silicone has some give. The upper third of the shaft can be bent a little bit, though it doesn't stay in position. Below that point, the shaft contains the motor, so it can't be bent, but it still has a little bit of squish.

The handle of the toy is made of smooth plastic - white on the outside, metallic silver on the inside.

The toy's texture is the major reason I was drawn to it. It has ribs all over its entire shaft, which are a happy medium - not too mild, not too intense. They can definitely be felt when the toy is being thrust in and out, but they never feel overwhelming or uncomfortable (at least, as long as the toy is properly lubed). This texture might be good for someone who usually uses smooth toys but is interested in foraying into more interestingly-textured toys.

Design / Shape / Size

The Patchy Paul is a bit girthier than the toys I usually use, at 1 5/8" - but its girth increases so gradually that I hardly notice. Plus, my natural inclination is to insert the toy just far enough that the "hook" at the end settles against my G-spot, which means that I don't ever insert the toy to its widest point. So, although the toy's girth is technically 1 5/8", it should be fine for people who prefer toys in the 1 3/8" to 1 1/2" range, especially because the silicone is a bit squishy.

The curve on the end can hit my G-spot sometimes, but it's not extreme enough to hit it every time. I would like this toy more for insertive purposes if the curve was more pronounced.

This is definitely not a discreet toy. It may not look like a typical sex toy, what with its bright, silly color and caterpillar-like shape, but anyone who looked at it would still almost definitely know what it was.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The motor of the Patchy Paul is located midway up the shaft. This means that when you insert it vaginally, the bulk of the vibrations will be located somewhere around your vaginal opening, not your G-spot. I'm not sure how I feel about this; on the one hand, my vaginal opening does seem to like vibrations better than my G-spot does, but at the same time, I bought this expecting it to be a G-spot vibrator and the vibrations are not focused on my G-spot. If you want a toy whose vibrations really home in on the G-spot specifically, this may not be the best choice.

To their credit, the vibrations are VERY strong and rumbly - moreso than any other rechargeable vibrator I've come across. This is something Fun Factory is renowned for, and for good reason. If you need a strong and rumbly rechargeable vibe, for clitoral use or otherwise, it might be worth buying a Fun Factory G4 vibrator even though they're intended for internal use.

The controls are very simple to figure out and to use - the "+" button increases the power, the "-" button decreases the power or turns the toy off, and the "~" button changes the mode (the toy has a few different patterns - pulsations, waves, etc. - which are fun to experiment with).

The toy is fairly quiet but it's not silent. It's also waterproof and performs just as well in the water as it does when dry.

Care and Maintenance

I find that Fun Factory silicone doesn't collect lint/dirt quite as readily as, say, Tantus silicone, which is a major plus.

As with all silicone toys, don't use silicone-based lube with this one. Water-based works just fine and rinses off easily.

The toy didn't come with any storage options, so I just wrap mine in a plastic sandwich bag for storage, to keep it from touching other silicone toys in my collection.
Follow-up commentary
This is still one of my favorite penetrative vibrators. It's soooo rumbly and I love that it has a good amount of texture without being overwhelming. Bravo, Fun Factory!
