Mood playful - traditional vibrator by Doc Johnson - review by Various

The Mood Playful by Doc Johnson is a traditional vibrator that can be used for both clitoral stimulation and vaginal penetration. It has no flared base, so anal play is not recommended. The vibe is easily turned on, and you can also cycle through and turn on the vibe by pushing a small button located on the bottom of the vibrator.

The vibrations from Mood Playful are quite weak and are unlikely to light the fire of an advanced user, but could be used as a warm up. Even beginners may not find much joy here. It can be used solo or with a partner.

At first glance, it appears that the entire vibe is made from the same hard plastic material. However, when you take it out of the packaging and hold it in your hands, you can then see that the colored side is a different material called TPE which is smooth to the touch, but velvety, and creates a bit of drag. TPE is slightly porous and cannot be sterilized, so if you must share, share smartly and use a condom. To reduce the amount of drag created by the TPE, you can use a generous amount of either silicone or water based lube. There is no odor or taste to this vibe.

This is a traditional vibrator with a fun, curvy pattern from the rounded tip to the seam where the battery compartment begins. The total length of the vibrator is a bit small at only 5 ¾ inches. It has an insertable length just over 4 inches. Although I personally think it lacks a little in the length department, it has a nice girth to it at 3 ¾ inches in circumference. On the lower part of the vibe, where it screws apart to insert the batteries, there is a silver Doc Johnson logo. There is an obvious O-ring that separates the main part of the vibrator from the battery compartment. This is meant to keep out water, making it water-proof. Unlike some water-proof vibes, you can actually submerge this vibe, and no water will leak into the battery compartment. Take it to the shower, pool, tub, or wherever you would like!

The Mood Playful is very easy to use. It is turned on by simply pressing a button on the bottom of the vibrator labeled "3," which represents the 3 levels of vibrations. This button also cycles through the three vibration levels. There are no variations in patterns, but instead three levels of buzzy vibrations, none of which are very strong. You also turn the vibe off by pushing this same button. Personally, I think the button takes away from the overall look of the vibrator and seems out of place. Honestly, it looks like a nipple, in my opinion. Thankfully, the vibe is somewhat quiet and probably will not be heard behind a closed door, but it is in no way "whisper quiet."

Two AAA batteries power the vibrator and are inserted by unscrewing the bottom of the vibrator and removing a small, plastic battery holder. This holder can only be inserted in one way, and it is actually a huge pain in the butt to do it, but makes it very easy to remove the batteries for storage.

This vibe is really easy to clean, thanks to the lack of texture and the material. You can simply wash this in anti-bacterial soap and warm water, or you can wipe it with toy cleaner. Again, the TPE material from which this is made means that it cannot be completely sterilized, so if you are sharing, be safe and use a condom or toy cover.

The size of this vibrator makes it extremely easy to store discreetly, but you should keep it away from toys of like material to remove the danger of damaging your toy.

The packaging for this vibe is actually really adorable. The inside of the box is covered in multi-colored polka dots, and the outside is a plain, matte black with some glossy, black swirls. It also has the name of the vibe, a line of colorful dots, and the name of the manufacturer. The back of the box features multi-colored dots, some with black middles, that show the features of the Mood Playful. My one complaint is that for the size of the vibrator, the box is just way to big, making the vibrator look smaller than it actually is. That aside, it is great for storing the vibe to keep it away from other toys, but a small pouch would make it more discreet.

Overall, I’m just annoyed with this vibrator. I’ve tried to use it several times, and each time was a complete fail. The vibrations just are not strong enough, and the material and length make it awkward for thrusting. Half of the vibe wants to slide in very easily (the plastic side), and the TPE side just wants to drag its feet. My body makes more than enough personal lubricant 99.9% of the time, and the other .1% is when I’m using this toy. It just never seems to be enough, so a generous amount of lube is needed. If I am taking the time to bust out the lube, it had better be well worth the effort, and this vibe is far from it. Every time I’ve been left feeling unsatisfied and messy, and that is far from what I want with a vibrator.
