Not Exactly as Intended

This is an excellent vibrator for travel or for the beginner. It worked decently for me too and I have a plethora of experience. It doesn't do so well internally, but is good for clitoral stimulation. Plus, it's pretty!

Use

I chose the Groovies Wave as a free gift because I thought it looked fun for vaginal play. I didn't think to look at the dimensions, honestly, because I was getting it free. To me, it was zero risk. It didn't end up working well vaginally, but it is an excellent clitoral stimulator. It will work well for beginners, travel, or those who like their toys to be pretty! It is also waterproof, but I prefer to not use it in water. The vibrations were more than strong enough for my clit but because of their buzzy nature, they could not be felt much internally. Because of this, I cannot recommend this for anyone who is power hungry. It does have patterns though, so if you don't require a lot of buzz, you might have a lot of fun with this.

Material / Texture

Groovies Wave is made of a velvety, matte, and hard ABS plastic. I love when plastic toys have this finish because it helps to keep lube from dripping off as fast. It is phthalate free and safe for those with allergies. It has a plastic smell but only if you really put your nose to it. The material is an 8 on the Eden safety scale. It is non-porous but cannot be sterilized so a condom is still recommended for sharing. Because the material is hard, some caution should be taken when thrusting. Due to the size of this toy, the risk of bruising is slight.

Design / Shape / Size

The vibrator was shorter and less girthy than I had anticipated. I have another toy in this line and I had expected it to be of "average" side but this is much smaller. It is only 5 1/2" long, almost 4 1/2" of that is insertable. This probably isn't enough for most women if they want to use this internally, but it adds a bit of length for a nice clitoral vibrator so you don't have to reach so far. The girth ranges from 2 5/8"- 3 1/4". This is thin for most as well. The bulbed head provides a nice surface area for the clit and nipples.

After the waves, there are two rows of small fake rhinestones. They are clear, pink, and purple and look very nice against the pink color of the shaft. On the base there is a single, black push button. I found this button easy to use, but there is no kill switch.

Because of the small size and low weight, this vibe is ideal for travel, beginners, and is even good in the shower. I tend to not want to use toys with rhinestones in the shower because I feel they fall out faster. There is an o-ring though, so you can use it in water if you choose.

Functions / Performance / Controls

I had no clue this had so many functions! There are multiple speeds and patterns. Again, this vibe was more than enough for my clit (which is semi-sensitive), but not enough vaginally because the vibes are kind of buzzy.

1. Low steady vibration that can barely be felt at all in the tip, but can be heard
2. Medium Low vibration that can be felt much better and is a nice clitoral or nipple teaser, starts to make weird loud noises
3. Medium vibration level that can finish me clitorally, loud noise that could be heard through a door
4. Fluttering escalation from low to medium, still loud but enjoyable
5. Fast pulsing on medium, but feel a bit stronger, still loud
6. Same as 5 but faster
7. Steady high vibration that actually kind of hurt my clit because it is so buzzy, very loud
8. Slow escalation from low, medium, to high, then flutters on medium three times, before going to a pulse and then a faster pulse. Ridiculously loud!

The button is easy to use, but again, there is no kill switch and this thing is damn loud!

Care and Maintenance

This vibe takes two AAA batteries that slide into a plastic tube that slides into the vibrator. Remember to remove the batteries when storing. This toy guzzles them! When choosing a lube, water and silicone based are best. To clean, use an alcohol wipe or mild soap and warm water. To store, you can use the simple package it comes in, but you don't need to since this does not collect dust.

Packaging

The packaging is wonderfully simple. It comes in a plastic clam shell that has no pictures on it. It explains, in short, very simple language, everything you need to know about the toy. There is a piece of paper inside the battery compartment. Just remove it before play. Because it is so simple looking and not embarrassing, I think it would make a good gift.

Experience

I enjoyed using this for the majority of the vibrations. BUT, it didn't do much for internal stimulation, plus it is loud, so I am giving this 3 stars. It is respectable though and a great price. Plus, it is pretty!

Not having enough power to keep me interested, this one made its way out already. It is an excellent beginner toy and a decent value, but for me, it didn't come close to wowing.

    • Depends on what kind you are looking for (clitoral, g-spot, combination). I would suggest figuring out what kind you want. You can filter the product listings by that type and then sort by rating. Check out the reviews. If you can narrow it down to a few that you like, you can post a comparative discussion to the forum to get some additional feedback.

If you're just getting started, I would recommend any toy made up of a body-friendly material (such as silicone) and familiarize yourself with what toys are made of and the pros and cons of each type of material. The more hygienic materials tend to cost more, but they are worth it in the end because they will last longer and are more body-friendly.

  • Groovie Waves not working?
    • Are other people having problems with the Groovie Waves spontaneously quitting? I received it and attempted to use it as directed but I barely got it inserted before it sputtered twice and died. I've been doing my kegels but I don't think I'm THAT good yet ;) Just curious if others are having problems.
    • Mine worked fine.. hasn't given me any trouble and I've had it a couple of weeks. (knock on wood!) hehe!
