Not Much Charisma

The Charisma Ripply is a very average toy for an average price. The size and shape aren't anything special, and the vibrations are moderate. If you are new to vibrators and want to try an inexpensive one, this is definitely an option, just don't expect greatness. With that said, this toy is above average in the variety of functions, and the feeling of the material.

Use

The Charisma Ripply by California Exotic Novelties is a vibrator that's intended for internal or external use by women, though it could be used by anyone. It works well as a G-spot vibrator. The G-spot tip is good for those with easy-to-reach G-spots, and for those who don't need very firm or broad stimulation. Because the vibrations are centered in the tip, this toy is also good for pinpoint clitoral stimulation. With only 3.5 inches of insertable length, this toy is too short to use for thrusting. It can also be used all over the body for massage. The Ripply's small size and non-intimidating appearance make it good for partner use. It is very slender, so it could easily be used during oral sex. It could also be held between two partners during intercourse. The Ripply is not for anal use because it lacks a handle or flared base. Don't use it anally unless you want to take a trip to the emergency room to get it removed.

Side, back, and front views

This toy has many of the characteristics of a good vibrator for beginners. It's a small size, and it has minimal texture, a small G-spot curve, a variation of patterns and intensities, and a low price. Nonetheless, I would not recommend this for beginners simply because of how buzzy and shallow the vibrations feel. This toy will be a risk unless you know that you like buzzy vibrations. For those who need deeper, rumbly vibrations, this will be disappointing.

Material / Texture

The Ripply comes in two colors; black, and pink. I received the black. The color matches the color seen on the product page. The material looks smooth and matte. The Ripply is made of ABS plastic, which comes in at an 8 on the Eden Safety Scale. This plastic is hard. It's phthalate-free, and it has a low porosity. It is very easy to clean. It has a slightly chemical taste and smell to it, which goes away a little bit with washing. The material of this toy feels very nice. It feels a lot like silicone, but with less drag. It is very smooth and velvety to the touch. This toy is completely rigid.

There are no visible seams that runs down the business end of this toy, so it stays smooth and easy to clean. There is a seam between the plastic and the silver band. That seam may be able to be felt during use. The ring between the toy and the battery cap is very pronounced and can be felt during use.

Design / Shape / Size

The Charisma Ripply isn't a unique or groundbreaking toy in terms of design. There are already quite a few short, slender internal vibes with a G-spot curve on the market, and this one doesn't try to deviate very much from that mold. As I said earlier, this toy is too short and straight for those who want firm G-spot stimulation, or for those who have a deeper G-spot.

Here is a top view to show the shape of the rounded G-spot head.

Top view - G-spot head

The toy is 5 inches long with an insertable length of about 3.5 inches. It has a diameter of about 1 inch, and a circumference of about 3.5 inches. As you can see from these dimensions, this is a very small toy. It won't give you a feeling of fullness, and it definitely won't impress size queens, but it will be easy to insert.

Size comparison

As far as texture goes, there are two waves and two ripples that lead up to the G-spot head. The waves can't be felt very well, and the small ripples can be felt slightly during internal use. This is great shape for those who want to experiment with texture for the first time, as the texture is so subtle.

Battery cap button

The Ripply is easy to use. It is controlled by one large button on the bottom of the toy. It can easily be used by people with large hands, small hands, or anywhere in between. This toy isn't discreet. While it isn't realistic, it is still very obvious that this is a vibrator. There is no travel lock, so this toy could easily turn on in a suitcase or while going through airport security.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This toy offers a lot of variety for the price. The Charisma Ripply can be turned on by pressing the bottom button. You don't even have to press and hold it, so this toy can be easy to accidentally turn on. Simply press the button again to move onto the the next function. There are 10 vibration settings:

1. Constant, high intensity
2. Constant, medium intensity
3. Constant, low intensity
4. Short, escalating pulses
5. Pulses, medium intensity
6. Pulses, high intensity
7. Short pulses, high intensity
8. Short pulses, medium intensity
9. Long pulses, high intensity
10. Short pulses, low intensity

These settings go in a loop, so there is no going back and forth between functions. I don't think that the order of these functions really makes sense. I find it difficult to remember the order because similar patterns are not grouped together. The seemingly random placement of the short, low intensity pulses always catches me off guard.

The toy can be turned off in any setting by pressing and holding the bottom button for 3 seconds. When you turn the toy back on, it will turn on in the setting immediately following the one which you used last. I found this confusing because I would have to figure out which pattern the toy was currently on and try to orient myself from there. If you fall in love with one setting, you'll have to loop through all 10 every time you use this toy.

The Charisma Ripply's vibrations are concentrated in the tip of the toy. This is good if you like pinpoint clitoral stimulation. I liked this toy more for internal use, though. The vibrations traveled well throughout the body of the toy. The vibrations are extremely buzzy. If you enjoy buzzy vibrations, this could be the toy for you. If that's not your thing, you should look elsewhere.

I live in a dorm, so the noise level of a toy is very important to me. This toy does not get my seal of approval. It really is too loud, especially on the medium and high intensity levels. The sound can be heard through a door. I also wish that there was a faster way to turn the toy off. With roommates, there is always a risk that someone will walk in on me. If that happened, it would take 3 seconds of loud vibrations before I would be able to get it to turn off. It would be pretty obvious what I was doing. This is really not a good toy if you have any of these concerns.
    • Easy to use
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Multiple settings

Care and Maintenance

The Ripply should be washed before and after every use. It can be cleaned with toy cleaning spray, toy wipes, antibacterial soap and hot water, or by wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol. Do not boil this toy. You can submerge this toy in water, making it very easy to clean. You should disinfect this toy between users, or before using it in a different orifice.

This toy can be use with oil-based, water-based, or silicone based lube. It can be stored with any other toys. Unlike silicone, you don't have to worry about the material breaking down when it comes in contact with certain materials.

The Ripply requires 1 AA battery, which is not included. To insert the battery, simply twist off the base, put to battery in, line up the cap and body, and twist the two pieces back together. There is a ring on the cap that keeps water from seeping into the toy.

Packaging

Front of box

The Charisma Ripply comes in a 6.5" x 2.75" x 1.25" plastic box. The toy is cradled in a plastic insert so that it can't move around within the box. The box isn't discreet at all. There is a clear window on the front that displays the toy. Two sides of the box are printed with pictures of the toy, and the back has a list of functions. I would not recommend this packaging for storage. It's flimsy, it's not discreet, and it's inconvenient. It's also not the best packaging for gifting. Frankly, this is the kind of packaging that I usually throw away (or recycle) immediately. This packaging can be recycled.

Back of box

There aren't many instructions included. There is a small piece of paper explaining how to insert the batteries and how to turn the toy on and off.

Instructions

The most important words on the packaging, should anything go wrong, are "This product is intended for use as a novelty product only. For external use only. Any product use for medical purpose or for a use that has an adverse effect on any function of the body is prohibited." This is printed for multiple legal reasons, one of which is to protect the manufacturer from lawsuits.

Experience

I really wasn't wild about this toy. I don't need a lot of power, but I do need rumbly vibrations. This toy did almost nothing for me. The vibrations were too buzzy, the size was too small, and the texture wasn't pronounced enough.

I think that you would like this toy if you:
1. like buzzy vibrations
2. like the small size for internal use
3. like pinpoint stimulation
4. have a G-spot that is easy to reach
5. don't have concerns about noise level
6. like subtle texture, or are a beginner to texture
7. like G-spot stimulation without thrusting
Follow-up commentary
This toy is way too buzzy for my tastes. After reviewing this, I put it away never to be used again. I got no pleasure out of using it the first couple of times and had no desire to get it back out.
