Powerful, but moves a bit much for controlling

While the Mia is pretty and small, its vibrations are not up to par (not high enough in frequency and too high in amplitude). It's hard to control easily if you want to flip through the pulsation patterns while in use, but otherwise, it serves its purpose as a clitoral vibrator and will help you achieve an orgasm.

Use

The Mia is definitely a clitoral vibrator. It's small and discreet -- about the size of a tube of mascara. It's great for solo or partner play while dry; I would not recommend using it in the shower and definitely not in the bath because the cap does not seal the battery off completely.

You can also use this while traveling as it is also very quiet, so you don't have to worry about your closest neighbor hearing it being used. It is also easily rechargeable (it has a USB to connect to your computer; leave it in for 1 hour and you can use it for up to 4 hours).

Material / Texture

It looks like a tube of lipstick, from its slick outer surface to the metal ring decoration along the middle. It's slick, inflexible, and easy to hold. The control pad is made of silicone, which may be so that it's easier to grip. But, as this is an external device to be used mainly on the clitoris, you will only ever really be feeling the smooth, rounded point at the end of the device (you are using the more pointed end and not the slanted end). It also has no smell.

Design / Shape / Size

I love the design. It looks slick and really well put together. It looks like an expensive tube of mascara. Everything about the object screams "sleek" and gorgeous. The only qualm I have is the metal ring, which seems to be a little dirty (it's not perfectly reflective, as I usually like my things), which may be due to the quality of the metal used. But as it's only a decoration element, it doesn't detract from the functionality of the vibrator at all.

As this is so small and disguised as makeup, you can easily bring it with you for travel. Furthermore, as it has a cap that opens to a USB for recharging, it doesn't look like a traditional vibrator in any sense, so I am sure no one will suspect a thing.

Since this is an external stimulator geared towards the clitoris, the item is meant for both beginners and advanced users.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The function of the Mia is okay. It does it's job, albeit not as well as I would like it. It has a rounded tip at one end that serves as the point of vibrations. You can control the strength of vibrations by pressing the + and - control buttons. At the highest setting, your continuing press and release of the + allows you to go through the different vibration settings (slow pulsating, medium pulsating, fast pulsating). To return to continuous vibrations, just press -.

While the vibrations do pack a punch, I don't like how the vibrations travel so far down the tube. Your hands can feel the vibrations even further up the tube, which makes it hard to control the + and - buttons in the moment (or even just in general). Furthermore, the vibrations move the tube a lot. I know vibrations are supposed to make an object move, but vibrations can have different amplitudes (how much they move from side-to-side). To me, I greatly enjoy direct pinpoint areas of small amplitude but high frequency vibrations. The Mia just doesn't cut it when it comes to this. I think the Mia would have fared better if it used the slanted side for the vibrations, because you could then decide if you wanted a greater surface area of vibrations or pinpoint areas (edges). Plus, with greater surface area, you would naturally reduce the perceived amplitude of vibrations. So, if you like direct pinpoint vibrations with small amplitudes, the Mia may not be for you. But if you like more spread out vibrations (i.e. the tube moves a great horizontal distance when vibrating), the Mia may be okay. One area to note: because of the movements, on a high frequency, it makes my clit a bit sore/itchy.

But, one hands down really good thing about the Mia is its noise level. It's really quiet, even on the highest setting. I'm pretty sure the sound will not travel even through thin walls, so play with it in the comfort of your privacy.

Care and Maintenance

It's made of smooth plastic. Simply wipe it down with soap and water and store it in the satin pouch that the Mia comes with. Store out of direct heat.

Packaging

The packaging was professional and beautiful. Lelo is definitely good in the design department. I'll just say this: the packaging for this vibrator is analogous to the packaging for the Apple computer -- sleek but pretty. It comes with a small black satin pouch for storage and a USB charge extender (plugs into your USB port on the computer and your Mia, but provides length so I guess you can charge it while not letting other people see what you are charging).
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

I am writing all of my review from the eyes of a novice, as the Mia is really my first real sex toy vibrator. It served its purpose, and while I did orgasm, it was not as strong as orgasms I have had in the past. It also took me longer to reach up to an orgasm. I am pretty sure it's because the vibrations are too high in amplitude and lower in frequency than I usually like it.
Follow-up commentary
I was not that enthusiastic when I first got the Mia, but it's beginning to grow on me. It still isn't as strong as I would like it to be, but it works well. I have also grown used to the greater amplitude vibrations of the Mia (I usually like smaller amplitude). I also still really, really like its discreet design, which definitely allows me to take this with me while traveling. I am planning to take this with me when I go abroad in two months.
