Power Bumper, Rough Ride Humper

Holy textured rabbit vibe! The Power Bumper is aptly named. It has bumps and power. While the texture may be a bit intimidating for those new to rabbit-style vibes, what's really impressive about the performance of this toy is that no power is compromised when both motors are going. I also love that each motor is controlled individually. I just wish there were more than 2 speeds for the rabbit and multiple speed options for the rotating shaft.

Use

Since the purpose of rabbit-style vibrators is to hit the clitoris and G-spot, they're intended for women. I personally prefer to use dual stimulation toys by myself, but they could certainly be used with a partner, either during foreplay leading up to vaginal intercourse or to provide dual penetration during anal sex. The vibe itself is not designed to be used anally.

Material / Texture

The Power Bumper consists of a firm shaft with rotating beads and an external bullet vibe. Except for the hard plastic base/handle, the whole thing is covered with bumpy-textured TPR, which provides quite a lot of friction, so have plenty of your favorite lube handy. Even though the bumps are squishy and soft, I would say this texture is more suitable for advanced users. Sex toy novices may find the nubs intimidating, as they do feel rather rough.

Even though TPR is a phthalate-free material, this rabbit has a distinct and strong chemical odor, which is very disappointing. After a few days airing outside its box and several washes with soap and warm water the smell isn't quite as strong, but is still noticeable. I really did not want to taste this toy due to the strong odor; but I did, and it tastes pretty much like it smells. I'm not in the habit of putting my vibes in my mouth, so I won't taste this one again.

Design / Shape / Size

Rabbit vibes are specifically designed to simultaneously stimulate the clitoris and g-spot. The Power Bumper's firm insertable shaft with its rotating beads massages the vagina and g-spot nicely while the bunny-shaped bullet vibrates to stimulate the clitoris. Being a huge fan of rabbit-style vibes, I love this design. I noticed that the shaft also compresses slightly when the top meets resistance. I found this to be handy for thrusting with just the bunny vibe going, which was great for some variety.

The Power Bumper is a nice 10 inches long, with 5 1/4 inches of insertable length. This means there is plenty of handle to hold on to, so you don't have to worry about your hand(s) going numb. The diameter is pretty standard at 1 1/2 inches, making the circumference around 5 inches; but, in my opinion, the texture makes it feel wider. Beginners may want to opt for a smaller size and/or smoother texture. I also think the size makes this one tricky to hide and too big to travel with.

Functions / Performance / Controls

While vibration can be felt all along the rabbit, it is definitely stronger towards the head, and the bunny ears really flap around. There are two speeds: fast and faster. The beads inside the shaft take up most of the insertable length, with a more solid plastic head at the top. There is only one spin speed, unfortunately, but there is the option to have the shaft twirl clockwise or counter-clockwise.

The controls are located on the bottom of the base, which is also the cap for the battery compartment. There are four buttons, two for each motor. The controls are easy enough to use, once I got a feel for them and could remember which button did what. They are labeled, but due to their location I can't see to read them when I'm in the middle of using this vibe. The top buttons turn the power on or off, and the bottom buttons control either the bunny bullet's speed or the direction of the shaft's rotation. What is REALLY cool is that by half-way pushing either power button you can simulate a pulse function. The motor moves, but only for as long as you hold the button. You can also "shift-on-the-fly" when it comes to reversing the shaft spin direction. I found this really impressive, especially since doing so did not take any power away from the vibrating rabbit. I actually had a lot of fun repeatedly switching the rotation, but maybe I'm just easily amused.

This is a powerful vibe with multiple moving parts, so it does make some noise. It can be heard from underneath a heavy duvet. It can also be heard through a closed door. Now, whether or not it can be heard through a closed door while under heavy covers depends on how sensitive your (or your roommate's) ears are. I couldn't hear it, but my husband could. I haven't had a chance to try this toy in the shower yet, so I'll cover that in my follow up review.

Care and Maintenance

The Power Bumper's textured surface doesn't feel as sticky as some TPR toys, but it still tends to pick up lint and pet hair. Since this vibe is waterproof, it's easily washed with antibacterial soap and warm water or cleaned with your favorite toy cleaner. Just make sure you're thorough and clean it really well, as the bumpy texture and slightly porous TPR could potentially harbor bacteria. Definitely slip a condom on it if you plan on sharing. The good news is that you can use either water-based or silicone lube with this one. For storage, I've been keeping this toy locked up in the cabinet under my bathroom sink. The flat base allows it to stand up on its own and I'm hoping that being left out of its packaging will let more of the smell dissipate. I'll let you know how that works.

Packaging

The Power Bumper comes in a thin cardboard box, with a clear plastic window revealing the toy inside. So, not the most discreet packaging for gift purposes. The product information printed on the box lists the vibe's features, functions, and describes this toy as "unscented" (which may be true, as the manufacturer obviously didn't ADD any fragrance to the material because it smells bad, but I think declaring it unscented is somewhat misleading). The only sort of instructions included is a diagram showing how to install the batteries. Inside the box is a molded plastic insert to hold the toy. Once my Power Bumper finishes airing out, I will most likely use this original packaging for storage.

Personal comments

Get ready for a bumpy ride. Seriously, the nubbed texture all over this toy really gives it some grip. If you've ever driven a 4x4 with oversized mud tires on a smooth street, you know what I mean. Hmm, I suppose I just outed myself as a total redneck there. Anyway, the Power Bumper definitely gives that same kind of grippy feel, which is a much stronger and completely different sensation compared to what you feel when using smooth-surfaced toys.

Experience

I love dual stimulation toys and have yet to use one I don't like. I was really eager to try the Power Bumper because of the texture, as up until this point all the ones I've tried were smooth.

When I first opened the Power Bumper, there was a strong chemical/plastic smell. I hoped it was from the plastic insert in the packaging, but unfortunately it was the vibe. I washed it several times with soap and warm water and left to air out overnight. When I came back to it, I still noticed the smell, so I washed it a few more times and let it air dry. (On a side note: the flat base is great because it allows the vibe to stand up on its own. Since this is a lint magnet, not having to lay it down on anything is definitely an advantage to keeping it clean.) When I got around to playing with it, the smell was still noticeable, but it wasn't as strong.

Because the bumpy material covering this vibe is all one piece, the rabbit and its ears also have the nubbed texture. I found that even on low speed this was a bit much to start off with, so I played with the rotating shaft for a while before turning the bullet on. I was very pleased that turning on the rabbit motor did not take any power away from the shaft, even when I switched the little bunny to high speed. This is a huge advantage!

Another really cool thing I noticed is that while the rabbit ears hit my clitoris, the little bunny's paws nicely stimulate my U-spot. (For those not familiar with term, I quote a description from page 210 of The Naked Woman by Desmond Morris: "The U-Spot. This is a small patch of sensitive erectile tissue located just above and on either side of the urethral opening. It is absent just below the urethra, in the small area between the urethra and the vagina. Less well known than the clitoris, its erotic potential was only recently investigated by American clinical research workers. They found that if this region was gently caressed, with the finger, the tongue, or the tip of the penis, there was an unexpectedly powerful erotic response."). So with the shaft twirling and beads rotating inside, the buzzing bunny ears flapping away at my clit, and the little paws vibrating gently against my U-spot, I get some incredible orgasms off this thing. An added bonus is that if I have sex later, a real penis feels so smooth and soothing after experiencing these bumpy nubs.

Follow-up commentary
While not my favorite rabbit vibe, I still enjoy using this one when I'm in the mood for some texture. It works well in the shower since it's TPR and okay to use with silicone-based lube. However, since I tend to spend a long time with this toy when I play with it, it's not my first choice for taking in the shower.

I can happily report that there is no more smell. Honestly, I wonder if the smell was the adhesive used to manufacture the toy rather than the TPR itself. Either way, it's gone now. The vibe seems just as powerful now as it did when I first got it, and it is holding up very well, but I should say that this isn't a toy I use all that often.

I don't really put them in my mouth either so I forget to include taste sometimes. Interesting into on the U-Spot, I have never heard of that but have played there, good to know it isn't just me!

Sounds like it might be the bunny vibe I've been looking for...I've been slightly disappointed with them in the past. I do love me some texture on my dildos so hmmm adding this to my wishlist!
