Silly Rabbit – You really can’t swim!

The Silly Rabbit had the potential to be a fantastic rabbit vibrator. The medical grade silicone and high quality beads, in addition to powerful, rumbly vibrations, set the stage for a mind blowing experience. However, the silicone seam and stiff clit arm were uncomfortable and really turned me off. It is also not waterproof as it claims to be. Although eager to please, it falls short on the basics. Nevertheless, someone can find this a very enjoyable treat if their anatomy fits.

Use

I first got acquainted with the rabbit vibrator from watching “Sex and the City”. Cliché, I know! I was happy to discover a sex toy that can stimulate my vagina and my clitoris at the same time. After much research, I took the plunge with Lelo Ina. From Ina I learned that rabbits are fickle creatures, or better yet, the human vagina is more unpredictable than rabbits. Ina provided me with many orgasms; however, it wasn’t a perfect fit for my anatomy. The clit arm was a little too tight, sometimes even painful. It was very pleasurable one moment, and then it became uncomfortable when I shifted to a different angle.

As my search continued for a perfect rabbit, I ran into the Silly Rabbit from California Exotic Novelties on the manufacturer review page. The features looked great on paper, so I had to try it. It comes with a long, thick shaft with stainless steel rotating beads that are meant to stimulate my vagina, and a cute bunny shaped arm for clitoral pleasure. The shaft is slightly curved and eager to stimulate my g-spot. I was ready to spend nights with the Silly Rabbit to give myself much pleasure. Better yet, this cute pink rabbit is also waterproof. Imagine the fun relaxing with it in the tub! However, I know that all rabbits are anatomically dependent. After spending some time with the Silly Rabbit, I found that it is a best fit for someone that enjoys girth and powerful clitoral stimulation. You can thrust it or hold it in place for pleasure.

Material / Texture

My first impression of the Silly Rabbit is that it is very heavy duty. It is mainly made of medical grade silicone. The silicone is hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous and phthalates free. There are 3 rows of stainless steel beads inside the silicone shaft. Since the beads are encased inside the silicone shaft, you should never come into contact with them. The handle is made of plastic. The whole thing weighs about 1 lb, and feels very heavy when I am holding it. It has no weird odor except for a faint silicone smell. The shaft and the clit arm are not very flexible. Squeezing those two areas feel bouncy, not squishy. The bunny ears are much more flexible because they are thinner than other parts.

Most of the silicone has a matte finish. This texture causes a lot of drag when gliding across the skin. The friction makes the shaft a lot harder to insert. You will want to use your favorite water based lubricant with this rabbit. The segment of silicone that showcases the stainless steel has more of a transparent and glossy finish. There is a silicone seam that runs down the middle of the shaft and through the middle of the rabbit clit arm. A few air bubbles in the bunny ears are probably caused by inconsistencies in pouring silicone over a mold. Two bubbles already popped, so special care must be taken to clean those areas.

Overall, due to the friction from the matte finish, I would only recommend this toy to someone experienced with vaginal insertion toys. It could be painful to people who are not used to penetrations or larger toys.
    • No odor

Design / Shape / Size

Total length: 10 inches
Length of silicone shaft: 7.5 inches
Length from the tip of the silicone to the clit arm (insertable length): 5 inches
Length of the bead compartment: 1.5 inches
Length of the clit arm: 2.5 inches without ears, 3.5 inches with ears
Diameter of the shaft: 1 5/8 inches around the bead compartment
Angle between clit arm and the shaft: 35 degrees

There is a slight curve on top of the shaft, and two long bulges on the sides of the shaft. The bulges make the toy wider towards the middle. The curve on the tip is designed to hit a woman’s g-spot.

The lower portion of the shaft is completely rigid. A thin metal axle extends into the bead chamber, where three rows of stainless steel beads rotate on a central axis. The axle continues toward the tip of the shaft, where a gyrating metal cylinder wobbles according to the rotations.

The clit arm is rather rigid. There is a slight bit of give when you try to pull on the arm. I wouldn’t consider this to be much of a leeway at all against the clitoris; it actually feels quite stiff. This inflexible design makes it very uncomfortable if the angle and placement of the shaft and clit arm are not exactly suited to your personal anatomy. In addition, you can see some air bubbles underneath the silicone when you try to bend the clit arm.

The silicone on the clit arm is the same as that along the shaft. It’s slightly bouncy, but not squishy when squeezed. The eyes on the rabbit head merely serve decorative purposes. The rabbit ears are very flexible and are by far the softest portion of the toy.

Four buttons and six lights occupy the control panel of the hard plastic base. The buttons are decently sized and easy to press. The lights all blink red, and clearly indicate the different modes of the shaft and clit arm. I cannot figure out why the control panel requires a compartment separated by a seam; it’s another point of entry for water molecules. A twist cap locks the opening to the battery compartment. The plastic O-ring underneath the cap is supposed to block water from entering the compartment.

There are 3 seams along the hard plastic portion of the vibrator. The first seam connecting the plastic to the silicone shaft is tight and even. However, the seam connecting the control panel of the vibrator to the rest of the hard plastic does not appear to be even. The seam where the battery cover screws onto the plastic base is also of uneven width. Testing concludes that the seams and gaps prevent this vibrator from being 100% waterproof.

The toy is quite heavy, large, and not discreet. I don’t recommend packing it into your suitcase for travel.

Functions / Performance / Controls

All buttons on this toy are located near the base, on the hard plastic portion. There are a total of 4 buttons and 6 lights. The two buttons with the up and down arrow control the speed of the rotation of the stainless steel beads. Every time the up arrow is pressed, the speed of the rotation increases; pressing the down arrow decreases speed. The middle button has two arced arrows pointing in opposite directions. Pressing the middle button reverses the rotation clockwise/counterclockwise. The button nearest the base is a squiggly line, and this controls the modes on the clit arm.

Here is a description of the different clit arm modes:
1. Constant vibration, low setting.
2. Constant vibration, medium setting.
3. Constant vibration, high setting.
4. Short bursts of equal intensity and length.
5. Bursts of increasing intensity and speed.
6. Long bursts on high setting.
7. 3 short bursts and one long burst on high setting.

There are 3 different rotation speeds to the up/down buttons, and 7 different modes to the clit arm. You can operate the shaft and clit arm independently, or both at the same time. The 3 lights near the up/down buttons correspond to each of the 3 modes of the shaft. The 3 lights near the base light up according to each vibration pattern’s rhythm. To turn the shaft off, press the down button until the shaft stops moving. To turn the clit arm off, press and hold the squiggly button for two seconds.

The vibrations are my favorite feature about this product. They are powerful, rumbly, and carry through the entire shaft of the toy. The vibrations are strongest on the clit arm, a little bit weaker on the shaft, and weakest on the curved portion of the shaft. I can feel the vibration on the plastic base, and after a while my hand gets numb holding the unit. The vibrations originate from the head of the clit arm, and transfer very well to the rabbit ears. You can see the ears vibrate differently according to different modes.

The rotating beads and gyrating shaft are stimulating and feel nice inside me. They will not jam even if my vagina clenches, but they will slow down a bit if enough pressure is applied. One thing I’ve noticed is the inconstant rotation speed that occurs sometimes. I can hear a difference even when I am just holding the toy in front of me observing it. The beads will rotate steadily for a length of time and then suddenly go slightly faster or slower, without any action on my part. I’m not sure what causes this.

The Silly Rabbit is not too loud, nor is it very quiet. It can be heard under covers or behind a closed door, but not both at the same time.

The battery compartment contains a removable plastic structure that firmly grips 3 AA batteries. The grip is so tight that it is a pain to change batteries on this toy. I literally peeled off some of the metallic wrapping off one of my AA batteries in order to remove it; yes, it’s that tight. I’ve had about an hour of use with it, and so far the batteries are fine, and the unit did not weaken in power.

I tested this toy under water for about 10 minutes. The vibrations are strong and rumbly, even under water. All vibration modes are clearly and distinctly felt. I also rinsed the toy for about 2 minutes under running tap water to clean it. When I opened the cap, water had already seeped through the gaps and into the walls of the compartment. This toy is NOT waterproof in the plastic portion, only the silicone portion. This is very disappointing considering how well the vibrations permeate underwater. The Silly Rabbit would have made a fine toy if it was 100% waterproof like it claimed.

Care and Maintenance

Being non-porous and waterproof, if you are not sharing the toy, some warm water and soap will be enough to clean your Silly Rabbit. You can also use toy cleaners or wipes. Be careful as to not rinse the plastic portion underwater because this toy is NOT waterproof, contrary to its claim on the packaging. Do not scrub the toy with harsh materials. Do not boil it or put it in a dishwasher because the delicate internal components will be damaged.

The silicone attracts a lot of lint. To prevent lint from gathering, air dry the toy after cleaning it thoroughly. Store it in a Ziploc bag or a pouch. You should only use the toy with water based lubricant as it is made of silicone.
    • Hard to clean
    • High maintenance

Packaging

The toy came packaged in a transparent plastic box, nestled in a plastic pull-out tray. Functions and features are printed directly on the box, along with company information. Some notations on the box describe the functions of each button. There is no instruction manual or user guide. There are no cleaning or maintenance instructions either.

It’s irritating that such a large toy did not come with its own storage pouch. You will have to either store it in the original plastic box, which attracts lint, or provide your own container.

Experience

Personally my vagina can be very sensitive with what goes into it. The silicone seam feels very prominent and uncomfortable to me. The clit arm isn’t flexible, which is quite uncomfortable against my body because the angle and position are off. The rabbit ears can reach my clit, but not the face of the rabbit. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the vibrations of the rabbit ears because they were intense. The curve was too deep to hit my g-spot, but the beads created nice stimulation on my vaginal opening. Even with my vagina clenching down on the shaft, the beads didn’t jam. Due to the weight, holding the Silly Rabbit for an extended period tires out my arms quickly.
Follow-up commentary
The Silly Rabbit really is uncomfortable to use. I can’t get over the seam issue. It isn’t as refined as toys I normally use for insertion. It sits on the bottom of the drawer nowadays, and doesn’t get to see much daylight. My go-to rabbit is still the Lelo Ina.
