Sleek and Sexy Space Age Sex

Zini Roae is a unique experience, with innovative vibration patterns, a unique design, and interesting motor placement. Its sleek design will appeal to design nerds, sci-fi geeks, technophiles, and toy lovers everywhere. Roae does have a few flaws, it could be slightly shorter and I'm fairly certain that the other people in my building can hear it on some of the vibration modes if I don't turn on music.

Use

I caved and bought this despite the lack of reviews at the time. I am a part gadget geek and part design nerd and I could not resist the pull of something so sleek and sexy looking. Its curves are gorgeous, it's shiny (okay, maybe a bit ADD), and it is beautifully simplistic.

The Zini Roae is not girthy, but it is rather long. I find that if I want the clitoral part to do much, I need to be sufficiently turned on so that my vaginal canal has lengthened enough to take Roae. This is a disappointing downside; lube won't magically make it fit when it just sort of stops and whacks your cervix. I highly recommend taking it very slow until you know the toy and your level of arousal. One of the neat features about Roae is that there is a motor, when inserted, is located near the entrance to your vagina. It's an area that, in my experience, is often neglected by vibrators. Sadly, this means that there is no motor right in the clitoral attachment. The vibrations do travel throughout the curve along the bottom so they make it there, they just aren't as strong as they would be if they were on that side of the curve.

This isn't much of a thrusting toy when used as intended, as you lose the clitoral sensations, but I found thrusting to be quite enjoyable with this one. It definitely just seemed better than other rabbits I have tried for actual thrusting. It also works well if you just sort of grabbed the curved end and move it a bit in whatever manner you find feels the best, experiment a bit.

Since this vibrator curves around, you could use it anally with little worries. It is silicone so it isn't porous and can be sterilized to switch between anal and vaginal use. If switching before sterilization, please be sure to use a condom.

Material / Texture

Roae is amazingly soft. I absolutely love running my hand over this poor Roae. It's made out of silicone, which is body safe, with a rating of 10, the highest safety rating that EdenFantasys offers. The outside of the curved section is plastic and with a mirrored finish, adding to the luxurious appearance of Roae. It's smooth so it slips in nicely with little or no lube for anyone.

Design / Shape / Size

As I mentioned above, I love love love the design of this toy. It's beautiful, it's elegant, and it has buttons that look incredibly awesome when they light up. I really believe, though, that it could stand to be slightly shorter, maybe 3/4 of an inch. The actual insertable length is 5", which is not incredibly long, but there's no real give to the toy so if you are not aroused enough it does not play nicely with your cervix. Unless, of course, having your cervix jabbed is your thing; it isn't mine. At 4 1/4" the circumference should be fine for pretty much anyone. That is not very large at all and is comparable with a lot of toys. It has an interesting shape to the shaft, a bit backwards from the typical design. It is sort of a rounded triangle shape when looked at from the very end and the top of the triangle is the portion sits against the g spot. I've noticed that a lot of toys tend to get wider to make it more likely to hit that area. I, personally, don't find this to be an issue at all, but I wonder if this was deliberate or a lack of actual thought in the design process.

The buttons light up in a variety of colors when pressed, with different colors having different meanings. Honestly though, it looks pretty cool when they do light up.

It isn't a very obvious toy, but I wouldn't call it horribly discreet either. I don't think travelling would raise too many eyebrows. It is not incredibly phallic and looks sort of space agey in a way.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This is my major, major complaint about Roae. The lock function is awkward. I thought that mine was broken when I first received it. I tried repeatedly to unlock it, following the instructions, which said to push both the + and - buttons simultaneously for two seconds. It flashed red at me and nothing happened. Eventually, I got it right and working. I have tried locking it again and have not really discovered any magic trick just yet. I think it's mostly about the timing, I think that you have to be really careful to press them at the same exact moment.

As I mentioned earlier, the buttons light up to indicate different things. They are outlined in the manual but I'll give a quick summary. White buttons mean you actually pressed them, you're turning the speed up or down, and Roae has at least a 10% charge remaining. The center turns orange when you switch between pulse mode and speed mode. They're green when you are changing the style of pulse. (Very convient if your partner is the one changing modes and speeds for you, then they will know exactly what they are changing.) When they're red the battery is low and violet (yes, pretty violet!) means you are trying to use the toy while charging, which does not work. Once Roae is fully charged, or at least 90% charged, the buttons will glow green.

Zini is NOT waterproof. Don't ruin it.

As I mentioned, the vibrations are higher up in the shaft and in the bottom of the shaft, making Zini Roae a different vibrator from the norm. Not everyone will be a fan of this. I, personally, love it. The actual vibrations are not incredibly strong but are not terribly weak either. Pretty much anyone should be able to handle them, especially on the lower settings.

Roae has several different functions. They are different pulsations and sometimes vary between the different motors, but are not the average rabbit due to the location of the motors. Unfortunately, the different modes make Zini Roae very noisy. Honestly, they sound like a spaceship or something taking off in some B movie. (Not that there is a thing wrong with B movies. I love them. I don't love them when combined with an expensive vibrator.) I thought it was broke or something it at first. When Roae is in just regular mode it's noisy but not nearly as noisy as the different vibration modes.

The modes are:
1. 2 quick pulses in the shaft, then a pulse near the base
2. the base is steady but the shaft does a gradual pulse
3. both pulse at the same time
4. alternating pulses
5. both have quick pulses simultaneously
6. a series of rapid pulses and lengthier pulse, also simultaneously
7. just the base motor
8. a long pulse and then sort of a dip with both motors
9. the shaft continuously vibrating while the base does several quick pulses and a long one
10. a mode where it alternates between the two
11. steady shaft while the base motor runs for a bit and then dips off

They say six different functions, but that clearly does not mean actual vibration modes. I think it's more about the speed of vibrations and pulses.

As for the charge, I'm not sure exactly how long it lasts, I've used it quite a few times and I have not killed it yet. They say that you get about 4 hours on a charge, depending on how the speed and functions. I would find that believable.
    • Hard to figure out
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Rechargeable

Care and Maintenance

Zini Roae is not waterproof so when washing this toy you should take care not to get water on the control pad or where the charger goes. Covering it with the little piece will help to keep water out of there should you accidentally splash a bit in the vicinity of that part. Care is pretty easy though, toy cleaner or antibacterial soap should be sufficient for an average wash. You can sterilize this with some rubbing alcohol, and you definitely should if you wish to share Roae. If you do not sterilize between partners, then a condom should be used.

You can store this in the pouch that comes with it and/or put it back in the box, along with the charger. You should take care to keep this away from jelly toys as the reaction between the two materials can cause melting.

Silicone is not compatible with silicone-based lubricants. You should use with water-based lubes only to keep your toy in the best possibly condition.

Packaging

Zini comes in a sturdy black box, along with the charger, directions, and a pouch for storage. The box is very sturdy and would work nicely for a gift and/or for future storage. There are detailed instructions include in the box, as well as a instructions on how to use the warranty should something go wrong. The warranty is good for one year.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

I know a lot of people have compared Zini Roae to LELO Ina. I own both and while the two are both high end vibrators they have a lot of differences. Just because Ina did not work for you does not mean that Roae will not work with your body. Don't let a negative experience with Ina keep you from purchasing Roae if everything else sounds appealing.
Follow-up commentary
I cannot say that I dislike Zini Roae. However, I cannot say that I spend my days in a haze of post space age sex orgasm happiness. I do dig this one out on occasion for it's unique vibration patterns and to laugh at the its spaceship-like noises. The variety is nice. This, however, has not become my new favorite toy.
