The Best of the Cheap - A Perfect Beginner Vibe

Hardcore vibe aficionados are likely to be disappointed with the Kiss due to its many setbacks, but its good qualities make it a perfect casual or beginner vibe as either the external or internal portions are likely to tickle your fancy. If this toy came in waterproof silicone I'd easily shell out a hundred bucks for it. No, it's not perfect, but the Butterfly Kiss is a clear winner in its class of vibrators, and I highly recommend it to the curious or casual vibe user.

extremely useful review
The cons of the Butterfly Kiss are about what you'd expect from a TPE vibe of this price - doesn't feel particularly sturdy, tricky to clean, not the strongest vibrations, and a tragically short lifespan - but the pros more than make up for these few setbacks. Arranged like a slightly atypical rabbit, the Kiss has the usual clit vibe (this one, a butterfly with whirring antennae, of course) as well as the g-spot vibe portion. Though it looks small and dainty, the tremors are surprisingly strong, and the shape delivers them perfectly where needed. It has three speeds, from light to frantic, controlled with a button at the bottom of the long handle. It's not silent, but the buzzing is light and difficult to hear from another room, which is a clear plus.

My first Kiss seemed to get a bit screwy after a few months of use, after a bit of water splashed onto the handle during cleaning, but my fondness for it made replacing it an easy choice. The colored part of the toy is waterproof but the handle and control portion seems very vulnerable. The fact that it's impossible to sterilize also makes me wary of long use with this toy, and the shape makes it tricky to put in a condom. It's listed as TPE or jelly in various models, but either way a user should be concerned about sharing this toy and know that it's impossible to completely get rid of bacteria. Of course, this is sadly standard for toys of this type and no other vibe I've tried from this price range even comes close in terms of quality.

Overall, the toy is great for clit and internal stimulation. The g-spot bulb can also be used on the clit for a nice variation. Though the handle can be a bit long for certain positions, this toy is also otherwise perfect for double-penetration with a partner or other toy penetrating anally. I personally tend towards stronger vibrations and gain little from g-spot toys, but something about this toy's shape still made it very satisfying. However, a personal pet peeve is that while this toy comes in blue (in addition to the usual feminine pink that so many of us ladies are tired of), the alternate color is always several dollars more expensive. Really, CalExotics? That's just irritating, but a definitely a petty grievance in light of the many useful qualities of the Kiss. Several of my friends have gotten in the habit of purchasing these as gifts and everyone has expressed similar good reviews, whether experienced vibe-user or complete newbie. Clearly, the Kiss is something special amongst cheap plastic vibrators.
Follow-up commentary
My latest Butterfly Kiss is still going strong, so there seems to be a lot of variation in the lifespan of these little guys. It's still a great toy that I highly recommend, with a few caveats.

You did a really good job on this review! In the future it would be a good idea to mention what types of lube are compatible (even if you're not a lube person, some people only like to use certain kinds, or HAVE to use certain kinds, and would like to know ahead of time if the toy they're reading a review on fits the bill). Also, although you mentioned that the vibrations are strong, you did not mention that there are three speeds, all of which are controlled by a push-button on the bottom of the toy. The fact that the neck is so flexible could make some women have difficulty stimulating their g-spots with it. Sorry to go on like that, I have the Platinum version and just wrote a review so all of this is still fresh in my mind! Awesome review, look forward to reading more from you!

  • Blue more expensive?
    • Anyone know why the blue is more expensive than the pink? They're the same, right? So why is one more expensive?
    • I've never noticed.

  • i have experiment attraction to women,,, i´m bicurious?
    • hi my name is yesenia paris,, and i´m 22 but since i was in high school i kind of have curiosity for girls,, i never like really kiss a girl or anything or i never had any female friend to experiment that, like i am very shy person and also like a lonely girl,, althought i am a very pleasant person and i good human being ,, noone seens to like me,,, but although of that matter i still feel the curiosity may because i have never been with a girl before
does that make a bisexual,a bicurious,of it just because the loneliness or the lock of friends,, like i never have a real
girl friend ,, like it´s samething that happens with boys,, you are not friends with them ,, but you like them in a different way,,, i always thing it´s because my loneliness
and the need of an another ,, girl being friends with me i also don´t have a mom to call and talk about my problems maybe it´s because of that the confusion thanks have a nice day
    • Someone made a similar post a while back, and I'll basically tell you what we told her. Don't follow stereotypes. Don't label yourself. If you are interested in girls, then you just are. If you haven't experimented with girls, personally I feel that when I liked someone it isn't based on any particular factor, it is based on the person themselves. I tell people I am bisexual, but really I think of myself as pansexual, not limiting emotion and attraction to anything. Not gender, not age, not race, not social status.

I think that sometimes people can become lonely and will "settle", making them open their views and ideas of dating up, to allow "just anyone" to enter into their lives. My boyfriend was this way, before meeting me, dating anyone who would say yes because he had no friends, and had been hurt and heartbroken so badly he just wanted to feel loved and accepted. I also have a straight friend who dated women just so she could have someone to date, but she wasn't attracted to them, although she liked to experiment and have fun, she says she is straight, but I don't give her a label.

If you ever need a friend to talk to, I am a good listener :)
    • Excellent advice Peggi and I second that. We don't need labels...we're just people. I'm a good listener too.

  • What's up with different Butterfly Kisses?
    • When I bought my Butterfly Kiss I thought there were only 2 versions - the standard and the Platinum Edition. Since I couldn't find the PE in my country I went with the regular one. I was so bent on getting it after watching Kara Sutra's review of it. She said it was TPR. I got my Butterfly Kiss. On the packaging (plastic shell with a piece of paper) it said that it's "phthalate-free" and made of TPR. I'm inclined to believe it as it didn't smell, didn't turn ugly yellow even when I had it for more than a year, didn't sting my bits (jelly does).

Now, however I see those jelly Butterfly Kisses. What's the deal? Was my vibe mis-labeled or are there more than 2 versions? I still have the paper insert from the packaging if you'd like to see it. The vibe itself looks a bit more opaque than what I see in EF catalog - it's always looked like this.

I would also ask people from EF who deal with the Review Program. Is my Butterfly Kiss same as yours (and thus qualifies for a review) or is it a different product?
    • Hi there!! California Exotic Novelties was the 1st to come out with this fantastic design. & yes we only have 2 versions, the platinum & the original. Check it out on our website link

Many other companies have tried to duplicate our product but have had no success. We are the original creators with the best product :) Hope this helps!

It's the jelly - throw it away or always use a condom. Look for better materials like silicone or VixSkin.
    • I wouldn't even use a condom...just get rid of it and stay away from the material.

  • Jelly Deformation?
    • Well I loved this little bugger and it came at a bargain so I suppose I can't complain too much. But I whipped it out for play tonight only to find that the jelly seems to have dented and deformed itself on the lovely bulbous head. I had it in a pocket next to my turbo glider and I suspect with some heat and pressure, that's the culprit that did this. It has very odd dents/suctionish things on it now.

Is this prone to happen to jelly toys? Could it have been the California summer heat? I would like to prevent this from happening in the future.

But in case people are wondering, this a toy I would glady invest in again.
    • It is my experience that jelly toys just deteriorate really fast...the heat may have sped up this process though. I do know heat can cause more phthalates to leak out of jelly. It probably just kind of melted on you a little. I would have to say you should go ahead and get a new one or better yet, find a comparible toy in silicone! Silicone can be boiled so, heat shouldn't be an issue with it at all! It always sucks when one of your favorites melts.
    • Does your house get pretty warm? I've never had that problem and I live in AZ. Was it touching the turbo glider? Sounds like a toy material interaction to me.
