Use

Dr. Laura Berman is a fantastic sex therapist on the TV series 'Sexual Healing' and she has set out to continue her therapy beyond the office and into the bedroom with the Vesta vibrator. Those new to the world of adult toys, seeking out for the first time to explore their bodies with an inanimate object, will find this vibrator unobtrusive and friendly. The Vesta's artistic design, soft shell, and subtle series of vibrations will gradually introduce one's flowerpot (and flowerbud!) to self-exploration via sex toy.

Used solo or with a partner, this vibrator is made to be used vaginally or externally to stimulate the clitoris. As it is waterproof, you should be able to romp in the shower privately with it as well.

Material / Texture

The Vesta's core is a hard plastic and is wrapped with TPR silicone. ‘What the heck is TPR?' you ask? A bit of research unearthed the following...

Wikipedia talks about TPR here for those who enjoy the science of things. As it turns out, TPR (ThermoPlastic Rubber), aka TPE (ThermoPlastic Elastomer), is not just for sex toys. It is a plastic/rubber composite, more commonly used for the manufacturing of anything from toothbrush hand-grips to snowshoe tracks and the new and improved comfortable catheter.

TPR is latex and phthalate free—wonderful! But this purple plaything is porous, so you can't really sterilize it—not so wonderful. So slap a condom on this banana before playing with your peach! Cleanup will be much easier, and you can rest assured that your vibrator is safe and relatively sterile.

The soft outer shell is appreciated as the hard plastic core is protected, so your cervix can rest at ease: it will be treated gently. Deliciously enough, when squeezed, this wand feels surprisingly similar to a real live chunk of human fatty skin, albeit covered in wet gummy bears (the surface is incredibly sticky and becomes even more so with use.

Sadly enough, TPR has a bad reputation for lasting about as long as a bowl of mint chocolate Dip n' Dots in Mexico. In the case of our Vesta, the wear out will be exponentially sped-up if you don't use a condom with it or are rough with it during use or, in particular, during cleaning. Without proper care, small tears can split along the stretched surface, and potholes will be the scars of stubborn lint.

The swirled texture is for visuals only, as TPR is so soft it gives way to pressure. A light plastic-smell radiates from the toy as well, a result of the TPR's chemical makeup, no doubt.

Design / Shape / Size

The sleek, unintimidating design of the first-timer vibrator is appreciated for those with no desire for realistic sex toys. Its sleek thin shaft, at a mere 5 1/4" insertable length and only 1" in diameter, will truly stimulate only those with very tight vaginal canals. Beginners will be pleased, but more advanced or desiring users will likely need to look elsewhere for greater girth and length.
The push-button vibrator control is handy, as it will stay put to one setting until you need it bumped to another. However, it may be difficult to reach while inside you.

The vibrations are really only strong enough to attempt to apply to your flowerbud, anyhow. Inside they sort of are enveloped in vaginal tissue, absorbed into the body.

The small size provides ease of discreet storage, to hide from prying eyes. The shape doesn't quite scream 'Vibrator!' either.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Vesta features 5 rather light vibration patterns, accessed by pressing the button at the base to cycle between them.

The patterns are described in the following reference by using
---------- to indicate long vibration
........... as short pulses and
- - - - - for longer pulses.

Setting number 1: ---- . . . . ..... - - - - . . . . .....
Setting number 2: -------- - - - - - ----------- . . . . .
Setting number 3: ........................................
Setting number 4: ----------------------------------------
Setting number 5: ----------------.....-------------------

Pressing the button again after setting 5 will turn the system off.
The toy is listed as waterproof, though I would approach water with caution as the battery compartment does not seem entirely leakproof.

Through a closed door the vibrations are detectable, though not necessarily discernable.
The battery compartment is also very difficult to open for insertion of the 2 AAA batteries, not included.

Care and Maintenance

A condom is recommended for use here, to aid in easy cleanup. Use waterbased lube only with the silicone-based TPR, as silicone-based lube may immediately react with the toy and cause the surface to 'melt.' If you have a very favorite silicone lube you're simply dying to try, I recommend doing a small spot test first to ensure the compatibility before playing. I've read reports where some silicone toys do play well with silicone lube, so try it out if you're really wanting to use silicone lube.

As always, oil based lubes are not recommended for vaginal play, as the oil can increase the attractiveness of your lady environment for bacteria. This could lead to yeast infections and UTI's among other unpleasantries.

Rinsing before use is recommended, as the vibrator can certainly double as a lint-roller in its sticky state. To clean, rinse in warm water and use plenty of soap to wash away lint and debris, then rinse well again. Soap and vaginas also do not mix. Be careful when removing lint to use more of a sweeping motion when ridding the Vesta of unwanted accessories. You could damage the surface if you dig them out.

The toy should dry completely before storing in a plastic bag or other non-porous container.

Packaging

The box displays the toy nicely and provides information regarding the features of the toy, as well as the history behind Dr. Berman, its creator. No other literature is provided by the way of directions.

For storage I would look elsewhere, as the box is a bit bulky for one with many toys. However, for those who are new to the scene (which is just who Dr. Berman is targeting with this product) the box should be fine, for occasional use.

Follow-up commentary
This poor thing got used once for the review and then never again. I don't like to have to use condoms on toys when there are silicone and glass toys out there (and in my toy box) that don't require them.

I still recommend a higher quality material when purchasing sex toys.
