7 Function Venus butterfly - strap-on vibrator by Cal Exotics - review by Anne

At first glance, the 7 Function Venus Butterfly by California Exotics was pleasing to the eye, and pretty incredible to fantasize about. It was all I dreamed about— no effort from my partner's or my hand to send me off into a complete rapture during intercourse! The straps looked adjustable to fit any size, and the butterfly looked comfortable enough… so why not try it out?

This product has stretchable and adjustable thigh and and waist straps that adjust to fit any size. The butterfly is very squishy and clear, and measures 3 3/4 inches in length. The butterfly has a glittery, jelly-like segmented body and wings, a tail and a… beak? (I didn't know butterflies had a beak…) So this looks more like a mutated cross between a humming bird and butterfly, but we'll just call it a butterfly.



The butterfly piece is responsible for providing extra cushion so you aren't just pushing against something rock hard, and allowing vibrations to travel on the clitoris in a more pleasing way. Inside this butterfly is a vibrating bullet connected to a long wire leading to a remote control that adjusts the intensity or pulsation of the vibration. The first three increase in strength, the next three vary the pulsation patterns, and the finale is a huge escalation. All you have to do is press on the black right arrow, and the butterfly begins to flutter. When you want something different, or more intensity (which I think is a little annoying) just keep pressing the right arrow button until you find an enjoyable setting.

The remote control requires three AA batteries, and has two arrow buttons. Since I'm slightly dyslexic (not knowing my right and left), turning it off or increasing the intensity is a little difficult for me. To turn it off, just press the left arrow once. (Sometimes, I accidentally touch the wrong one.)



Cleaning and maintaining the 7 Function Venus Butterfly can be a pain. The whole piece functions together in three components: the plastic bullet inside, the fabric stretchy straps, and your butterfly. The butterfly itself is made out of TPR, hypoallergenic and phthalates-free. The butterfly component can be cleaned with any toy cleaner or a mild soap. Since this material is slightly porous, it is important that your partner wear a condom during sexual activity while wearing the 7 Function Venus Butterfly. Water and silicone lubes are highly recommended as well. You can detach the adjustable straps from the butterfly and throw them in the wash to clean. For cleaning the bullet, I would lightly (very lightly) take a towel and use a little bit of isopropyl alcohol just to sanitize it. I would store each piece separately to avoid lint cling-age transferring from the straps to the butterfly.

When dissembling your 7 Function Butterfly, there are some precautions to take to ensure longevity. The bullet is a little difficult to remove because you have such a thin hole to pull out from. I always worry whether or not I may cause a short in the wiring if I struggle too much. Also, because of the butterfly's jelly-like material, it's a little fragile, so any strenuous pulling may cause it to rip apart. You also have to worry about tearing the butterfly while detaching it from the straps.

I would recommend this toy for more advanced users. Since I am more of a beginner, it was definitely hard for me to figure out, especially when using this with another partner.

This product was a mild disappointment to me, and probably one of the most regrettable purchases I've ever made. The straps are confusing to hook together, and it took me about 20 minutes to figure it all out. Even when I had it all put together, the straps just didn't sit right on me. I'm a pretty normal weight (about 125 lbs, 5ft 2in), and it did not seem to matter— any kind of adjustment still felt uncomfortable. Plus, the butterfly attachment didn't sit on my clitoris the way I wanted it to. The straps kept pulling the butterfly back, blocking my vaginal opening.

Having sex was a bit of joke and caused a lot of complications. The device pushed into my pelvic area a lot making me feel very uncomfortable, it would often jam into my partner's penis, and overall it looked tacky and unsexy.

This strap-on vibrator just kinda sits around, not being used. I wish it worked better than I thought it would.
