The Better than Chocolate by Nomi Tang earned its title by providing users with strong vibrations and pulsation. It's also submersible up to 1M. Unless you require heavy stimulation, the BTC will likely fulfill its function. Even if you can't climax from this decadent treat, it makes foreplay extra special as a total body massager.

Use

The Better than Chocolate (BTC), a clitoral vibrator created by Nomi Tang, awakens the senses by stimulating the body, as well as the entire vagina. While all vibrators could be placed in other erogenous zones, Nomi Tang specifically describes usage of the BTC during both foreplay and the main event. The body of the BTC cradles nicely in the vagina. I've found that the point of the BTC makes an excellent massager. I would imagine that this would be a great toy for men since the entire piece can vibrate on the genitals.

In terms of clitoral stimulation, the BTC is strong, but it's not overpowering. I believe that most users will orgasm from this toy. I have had clitoral orgasms from this toy, however I did have to work for them. Those who need very strong to intense stimulation should look elsewhere.

Material / Texture

The BTC is made of medical grade smooth non-porous thermoplastic rubber (TPR). It is compatible with silicone and water based lubricants. This material is phthalates and latex free. Its velvety texture glides easily along the skin. It feels especially nice against sensitive areas. In use, TPR feels almost like (calloused) skin. This is definitely my favorite neck/muscle massager. It feels like a masseuse is kneading my skin.

There is a very very faint rubber smell that is only apparent when you're reviewing the toy aka shoving it up your nostrils and taking a really big whiff. I don't intend on licking this one, so if you want to taste it, you'll have to buy it first.

Design / Shape / Size

The BTC was designed to fit perfectly in the hand. The battery compartment end can be nestled in your palm, while your index and middle fingers surround the control panel. I also like to grasp the base with my pinky, ring and middle finger while I rest my index finer on the right hand side of the toy. This grip might be more comfortable for those with smaller hands. The dimensions are listed below:

Truthfully, I would have preferred a smaller toy for hand-held use. But I do appreciate the size of the BTC when I rest it on my entire vagina. After some trial and error, I was able to comfortably grip the toy.

This toy is discreet in the sense that it can easily pass for a back/neck/hand massager (the fact that it is great body massager makes this excuse all the more convincing!). The control panel has a NT logo, but someone unfamiliar with Nomi Tang would have no idea what it is.

Functions / Performance / Controls

I absolutely love the controls of the BTC. The vibration strength/patterns are controlled using a futuristic looking touch slider. After inserting 2AA batteries, hit the button (yes you need to press it) above the battery pack to turn the toy on. The toy will start at its highest setting. You can decrease the vibration strength by sliding your finger from the top of the control to the bottom. Each slide reduces the vibration intensity by 1 level. There are approximately 4 vibration levels. All vibration intensities are extremely quiet. A blanket could completely muffle any noise.

To enter pulsation mode, hold your finger on the NT logo until the toy pulses. There are three different pulsation modes. The light behind the NT logo dims along with the pulses. You cannot change the strength of the pulses- you can only change the speed. Unless you like really soft pulsation, I doubt that this will be an issue. I would have liked stronger pulsations, but these really felt nice, and they worked well for foreplay. I never climax from pulsation, but if you do, there's a good chance that they'll be strong enough.

Finally, the touch slider has a locking feature. When you've found your ideal vibration/pulsation setting, hold your finger on the top of the control bar, opposite to the NT logo, until the NT logo turns red. Locking the toy prevents the accidental changing slider/pulsation modes. To unlock, touch that same region until the red light turns off. You can turn your toy off when it is locked by pressing the button at the base.

If you are going to use this toy in water (BTC is submersible up to 1M), remember that the settings automatically lock when water hits the touch sensor. So if the sensor is wet, the controls will not work.

Care and Maintenance

Toys made of TPR should be cleaned with soap and water. Do not clean with bleach. And boiling is off limits since this toy contains metal parts. And it vibrates.

BTC is powered by 2AA batteries. To preserve battery life, remove the batteries after use. I always use rechargeable batteries.

You can store BTC in the included velvet pouch. While the top face of the BTC is exposed, the pouch effectively shields the toy, assuming it is kept in an additional toy bag, such as a Devine case.

Packaging

The BTC came in a simple, classic, white cardboard box. The burgundy NT logo is emblazoned on the top. BTC sits in a white cardboard insert. Since the box is made out of environmentally friendly materials, it can be recycled. It looks like a big jewelry box. BTC makes a lovely gift, especially for Valentines Day.

Naturally I threw the box away, so my description ends here. Somehow I still have the manual which, if you've read my previous reviews, is pretty amazing. The manual was included underneath the insert supporting the BTC. The manual highlighted the key features of BTC, however I would have liked a little more description on the vibration settings. I also remember an instruction guide for the insertion of the batteries, but I can't find it.

Personal comments

If I were rating this toy based on my own experience/use, I would give it 3 stars. This is a well constructed toy that definitely has oomph. But I rarely use it. I really liked it in the beginning, but I strongly prefer my Gigi. My main issues, most of which relate to my anatomy, are:
1. I would have preferred a smaller toy that was easier to grip.
2. I wish the point was a little flatter. I do lay the flatter end of the tip on my clit, but I still wish it covered more surface area
3. The vibrations are strong, but I wish they were stronger
4. I wish the toy was rechargeable. I did buy rechargeable batteries, but it's just not the same.
5. I accidentally removed the battery holder. It slid back in without any problems (I was twisting the cap much too hard). It went right back in (more or less), but it hasn't impacted the anything. Luckily this toy comes with a 1 year warranty.

If you believe that a BTC is a good fit with your anatomy/preferences, I highly suggest making the purchase. I need a *lot* of direct stimulation to achieve orgasm. I believe that the BTC will be strong enough for most users.

Experience

My favorite way to use the BTC is to place it on my vagina while I'm seated in a chair. I then rock back and fourth on the toy until I am ready to climax. I then switch to the constant vibration, at the highest setting, to finish the job. But as I have stated a few times, I don't really use this toy anymore. While it is better than chocolate, there are other toys better for me. But I bet it will work for you!

I won this toy in a contest on another website and overall, it was a pretty sweet prize!
Follow-up commentary
I wouldn't say that I dislike the toy, but I don't really like it either. I just love the strength of my other toys ie the Form 2 and Gigi. Can't necessarily fault the BTC because it wasn't designed with that philosophy.

Based on your personal comments here, if you were looking for something in this sort of range I'd definitely recommend the Bcurious by BSwish. I am writing a review of mine at the moment (funnily enough I won mine too!), but it's really small and fits well into your hand, with what looks to be a flatter tip than the BTC and it's rechargeable. I'm not sure about how strong it'd be in comparison, but I find it to me sufficient for my needs. Smile

I didn't have unlocking issues - but I'll qualify that statement by adding that I never held the toy by the top end, so there's no way that my finger could have hit the unlocking region (aka the top of the strip for those who don't have the toy).

I actually kept the box for a while, but I'm on a mission to get rid of all of the boxes that I don't use. Since BTC comes with a pouch, well you know the rest. It broke my heart a little bit though...

    • I really think this is too large for that.
    • I agree with Adriana Ravenlust, it is too big for man-on-top intercourse. However, it does work fairly well in Cowgirl intercourse. The problem with the better than chocolate is that the controls are tricky and easy to change without meaning to, especially in the heat of the moment. Sometimes, simple is better, but we DO like the better than chocolate during foreplay! My wife calls it her favorite. (bliss)
