Devinn Lane's pleasure pal was my very first sex toy. Although I have moved on to grander toys, and am most definitely pickier about what I want, as my first toy it served its purposes (and often!). My initial hunt for vibrators was for something basic but not too realistic. This insertable purple vibe satisfied both counts, looking rather traditional but feminine enough to not be frightening. Plus, it's waterproof and the idea of bath time fun was too good to pass. That it had texture toward the bottom was a bonus but not necessary. Needless to say, I was more than anxious for my new toy.

When it arrived, I was accosted by Devinn's face on a tacky insert inside the plastic package - which I did keep for storage; for a while. Of course, there was Devinn's secret which, while listed on the site at 7" long, is more like 8.5" long; 7" of which are insertable. It ranges from 4.5" in girth at the narrowest point (just below the head), to 6" in girth at the widest (around the bumps at the base). Although it has a realistically contoured head, most of this toy is fantasy; including the 3 rings which start near the center of the toy, and the 3 rows of bumps below them. Add in its light purple colour and chunky glitter (which is more like confetti in a layer of jelly beneath the top layer), and it's less intimidating than many toys.

As a beginner, I didn't know anything about size so I bit off more than I could chew, at least in some areas, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend this waterproof vibe to all newbies. For starters, it's a lot wider than your average slimline, which I didn't know at the time. In fact, I'm amazed that I got away without lube when it came to inserting this vibe into my virgin pussy, but those were my days of "roughing it". I would definitely recommend avoiding the mistakes I made, and get yourself some water or silicone based with this toy. 7" are also quite a bit when it comes to insertion and I noticed this because I was never able to get those oh-so-stimulating bumps anywhere near my cunt. That was always disappointing to me. My vagina never got any additional stimulation from the 3 ridges on this toy, either. Nevertheless, the mostly smooth shaft was good for thrusting.

The first insertable 5" of this vibrator houses the vibrating mechanism itself, making most of this toy rigid. Powered by 2 AA batteries, and controlled by a dial, this toy is quite typical and not hard to use in the least. The vibrations are definitely strongest on the upper half (toward the head), which is good because your hand doesn't go numb. The vibrations can barely be felt near the nubs, partially because the jelly is thicker there. For 2 AA batteries, I would expect a little more oomph now, but was thrilled then. However, the vibrations are fairly deep, not buzzy at all. Although this is no LayaSpot, this vibe is surprisingly quiet and even on high, couldn't be heard through a closed door.

This toy was disappointing in other ways, too. Although I wasn't necessarily looking for G-spot stimulation, I didn't get it. The head is simply made of jelly and has a lot of give, not offering the pressure many women will need to hit their G-spots. However, I did enjoy using the head for a clitoral stimulator and I spent many a day with this purple toy against my clit.

Since then, I've learned that this jelly is not the most hygienic material out there. It is one of the few jelly toys I have ever owned. Still, this toy has give me none of the issues I've had with other jelly toys. It didn't smell atrociously (it has been so long that I cannot remember if it smelled at all, but that means it didn't smell so bad I can't forget), and it didn't melt (even when touching other toys). With what I know now, I'd still recommend condoms for partner or anal use however. No matter how good a cleaning you give it with soap and water, the porous jelly will still harbor bacteria.

This vibe is one of the few toys I have had a lot of shower play with, because I had it before I realized that I don't actually like shower play. I'm happy to say it held up well. In fact, holding up is one this this vibe does well. After 5 years and many uses, the jelly has not deformed and the motor still runs as well as it did on day 1. That alone speaks volumes about this vibrator.
