The base is TPR plastic, but this will not contact your skin and is not applicable in the review.
The main material is TPR, which rates a 7 on the safety scale. It is very grabby, has a definite drag - which makes lube a necessity - and is also very flexible. The flexibility is both a bonus and a negative. It allows you to be able to hit just the right spot for G-spot targeting, but also makes penetration a bit tricky. It does seem to penetrate easier with the vibrations on low, for some strange reason.
The drag is very strong, both in the shaft area and the outer clitoral stimulator. This is very pleasant with lube, but can irritate you within a couple of minutes without anything to help the glide. The lube also helps with the penetration, since this item is very flexible and does not have a firm, semi-rigid shaft.
There is definitely a rubber aroma to this fun toy; I washed it a couple of times, but still smelled the rubber aroma. I finally got rid of 95% of the smell when I rubbed it with a flavored lube and rewashed the Renegade. This somehow gets a strong aroma off the material without leaving its own aroma in place--a nice trick but not easily explainable. I have not nor will I taste the material - sorry, guys!
The Renegade is 6" tall & has a 5" shaft, of which 4" maximum is insertable. The diameter of the tip is 1", which is rounded and comfortable. The bulb in the middle of the shaft has a diameter of 1 1/2". This adds a nice fullness to the sensations while inserting or orgasming from the stimulation during penetration. The base is 1" tall and is 3" around. It is rounded and is shaped like half a globe. This supplies the rocking motion.
The clitoral or testicular stimulator is 3 1/2" tall, and the width varies from 1/2" at the base, where it joins the shaft, to 2 1/2" wide at the top. It is rounded and curved along the top, and the front is cupped. The cupping in the front allows the wide stimulator to cup the testicles or front of the clitoral area. This is an amazing design and is what allows this to work well for many anatomies. It is not as precise as many rabbits, so between the flexible material and the shape there is plenty of wiggle room.
The base, being rounded, is designed for using with a rocking movement during penetration. This is very stimulating, providing you are on a level and firm surface. It does work on a bed, but not as well. We have carpeting throughout our house, and the carpet did muffle the rocking ability. My husband happened to see me trying this out on the floor of our bedroom and noticed the resemblance to the doggy butt slide. Being the smart ass I am, I had to play that up and realized-- I was going to cum! Guess the joke was on me that time, but I wasn't complaining. (If you and your partner try that maneuver, make sure humor is appreciated--my hubby was hysterical when I got done.)
There are four vibration patterns; these are utilized with the attached controller and internal bullet. The vibrations are the strongest at the base of the shaft and throughout the clitoral/testicular stimulator. The levels are: 1. Low steady vibration - 2. Medium steady vibration - 3. High steady vibration - 4. Warp speed steady vibration. The noise level is very quiet, even on warp speed. It's perfect for your enjoyment and discretion when noise can be a factor.
The Renegade takes 2 AA batteries that are inserted via the base of the handheld controller. The cord is only about 20" long, but the levels are easy to access by pressing the up button for more power, or the down button for less power. Off is accessed by pressing one down after the lowest level of vibration has been reached.
The Renegade will take a larger toy pouch, but can be fun for traveling by car. If you are planning on a plane trip--I don't know. The shape and size might be enough for them to have to check at the baggage area. It looks like a huge lobster claw....but obviously different. Anyone that sees this is going to know what it is for, so I am leaving the traveling to your discretion.
Wash the Renegade in warm, soapy water and rinse well. Let it air dry to limit the lint it will gather on the surface. The Renegade definitely attracts its share of lint and hairs, so keeping an Eden Wipe around during use is a great idea.
I do go back over this with the Lelo Toy Cleaner: though this is semi-porous, it does help with sanitization. I also store this in the original box. Though the box is not very discreet, the plastic formed covering makes it work well to keep this one separated from your other items. TPR is not a friendly material when stored with other soft toys. It can discolor, break down and become unsafe for further use.
I recommend using water based lubricant with this toy - it is easier to clean and keep sanitized. Being semi-porous it will trap materials in the small holes, and the water based lube is at least easy to remove, which should help prolong the longevity of this toy.
If using this for anal play as it was intended, please use a condom for your safety and hygiene. You do not want trapped bacterial and other matter to affect the Renegade's material safety.
The Renegade is fun for women on car trips. I wore a broomstick skirt and crotchless underwear, and brought along the Renegade to pass time on a long trip. We had to go out of state to pick up a couple of bikes, so there was about 4 hours of driving one way. When we hit the pass, I brought my friend out of the drawstring pouch and placed him in my seat, added some lube and let the fun begin. My husband was surprised, but also enjoyed the trip--we did have to stop for his 'enjoyment' a couple of times, so make sure you plan for a longer travel time.
