This week, in Washington state, Gov. Chris Gregoire signed into law a bill closing “a hole in the law” that protects domestic partnerships and civil unions performed in other states. Before this bill passed, the law didn't protect same-sex marriages. As of ninety days after the 2011 legislature adjourns, it does. This makes Washington the fourth state, along with Maryland, Rhode Island and New York, to pass a law protecting same-sex partnerships.

When the bill passed in the House last month, Rep. Laurie Jinkins, D-Tacoma, the bill's sponsor, told reporters, “This bill is about fairness for all families. Washington voters decided they wanted all families to be able to protect themselves under Washington state law.”

“It really is quite significant,” Governor Gregoire said.

Republican critics agree with us, too! They say this bill has put Washington one step closer to legalizing same-sex marriage and “destroying the family unit.” Sure it will. Cause obviously LGBT people hate families, and don't want children.
