Anaphrodisiacs

by Arlinnae

While you can read a lot about libido-enhancing aphrodisiacs and what to give your significant other to eat if you want an exciting night, there is little talk about natural anaphrodisiacs, foods and herbs that blunt the libido. So, here is everything to know about them.

Types of anaphrodisiacs

There are two main categories: natural and synthetic. Synthetic ones are of course drugs and pills, and they should only be taken following the orders of your doctor in special cases. If you would like to know more about those and their possible side effects, you should consult your doctor. Here I am going to talk about the natural ones, foods and herbs.

So, here comes a list of the most common ones.

The most important ones...

Alcohol, the odd one out
Alcohol has a strong inhibition-reducing effect. Consuming it makes it more likely that something will happen. But at the same time, it also lowers the satisfaction and the performance. Drink enough alcohol and the libido will go down too. Just enough alcohol can be the sure way of adventurous but disastrous sex.

Tonics
It is quinine that gives the tonics a bitter taste, which also lowers testosterone levels, causing a drop in libido and drowsiness.

Hops
You could say...who cares for this one? It is not like you would use it as a condiment in most dishes. But beer and ale are made with hops, giving it a better taste. Yes, if you would like an active night, give your partner something else to drink. Preferably something without or with minimal alcohol content.

Mints
If you consume a lot of mint, it can kill your libido as its oils lower testosterone levels. Therefore they have a general "cooling off" effect on your body. It is by no accident that many cool off gels and last-longer lubes contain mint. So if you wish to have a sexy night, stay away from minty massage oils, minty ice-cream and chocolate or too many breath mints.

Marjoram, dill, scullcap
They are tasty herbs, but stay away from them if you are planning more than a romantic dinner for the night.

Wild Lettuce, Lettuce
If you would like to treat your partner to some real good sex, do not order just salad. It will have a bad effect on your desires. Among the garden vegetables, they contain the highest amount of potassium-nitrate, another libido killer. Also the dressings often contain dill and marjoram. On the other hand, this gives you a second reason why you should serve a lot of salad to your randy kids – keep them healthy and calm.

Tomatoes
Yes, tomatoes! Also tomato sauce and ketchup as they are basically concentrated tomatoes. Try to avoid Italian restaurants/takeout or pizzas, especially as the cuisine oftentimes adds marjoram as seasoning.

Soy
Eastern monks are actually eating soy in belief of keeping their libidos under control. So probably Chinese is a bad idea for dinner if you are looking for more.

Licorice
Eating a few pieces of black licorice probably won't hurt your sex drive, unless you do it after marjoram-seasoned Italian food and guzzle it down with beer. But eating a lot of the black treats could cause a drop of libido in either of the genders. Lucky thing most people dislike the taste.

Some Tips:
Make your salads with arugula instead of leaf lettuce and add some avocado along with basil if you want an eventful night.

Here are some tasty dishes to try for a sexless first date dinner:

- Tofu burgers seasoned with a mix of marjoram, coriander, lemon pepper, sea salt, and onion power. Cook the tofu burgers in soybean oil.
- Chicken and Tofu in a Marjoram Cream Sauce
- Carrot and Sweet Potato Soup

- No Monkey Business Marinated Mushrooms:

- 1 lb. Crimini Mushrooms
- 2 Tbs. Soybean Oil
- 3 tsp. Garlic, minced
- 1/4 tsp. Thyme
- 1/4 tsp. Marjoram
- 1/4 tsp. Ground Coriander
- A dash of Ground Cloves
- Fresh Ground Pepper, to taste

Directions:
- Combine all ingredients and marinate for an hour or more in the refrigerator.
- Place the mushrooms on a grill or in a lightly oiled pan and roll around until lightly browned.
- Serve hot.
